Food at Alton Towers

Last time we took our own picnic so didn't pay attention to food outlets. Is there anywhere in particular on site that people would recommend? I know it's going to be overpriced and meh fast food but just looking for somewhere suitable for the kids, vegetarian 4yo and 1.5yo, eldest very fussy. Ideally somewhere in/close to Cbeebiesland?

Are you posting this after listening to the latest episode of parenting hell?

I don't think there is anyone on site or nearby that offers good food. Probably even worse for vegetarians.

SecretVictoria · 13/06/2023 17:40

Last time I went it was McDonalds. Was a few years ago.

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 13/06/2023 17:43

We went in May, and spent a couple of nights at Alton Towers Hotel. We ate at the Secret Garden restaurant in the hotel lobby. It was expensive but very good.

We went last summer and enjoyed the roller coaster restaurant. They serve the food by shooting it along a network of rails and tubes and the food magically ends up popping out in front of you. If you're with DC who will appreciate this (I am a total killjoy about theme parks and I was impressed) then it's worth it for the novelty value. The food itself was OK. Edible. Better than anything we've had at Legoland.

Haha, no, I actually like that podcast but haven't listened to it for ages incidentally. So this has made me think a) I should go and listen to it, and b) maybe we should stick with picnic again after all! I also didn't realise it closed at 4pm on weekdays which is a bit of a bummer

A bit vague but bear with me ... if you go down through the wide entrance area towards all of the rides and bear left toward Wicker Man then, near the pirate ship type ride & spinning spiders, there are loads of food stalls and picnic benches. We go there as then we can each choose our preferred stall and then find a bench to eat at. The wraps are surprisingly good and DH liked the hot dog. The children were also happy but they're less discerning! We tend to have that for lunch and then take snacks with us to eat in queues.

PenelopeTitsDrop3121 · 13/06/2023 18:13

Pizza pasta place. Lots of hot dog and burger stalls. Roller coaster restaurant is good fun but food is so so. There's a Costa coffee next to Cbeebies land.

Definitelytheothersideof40 · 13/06/2023 18:14

In Cbeebies Land itself there is a great outlet for food which has jacket potatoes, pizzas, sandwiches etc. It might be your best bet rather than having to trail small kids across the park.

coronafiona · 13/06/2023 18:14

Roller coast restaurant- overpriced lukewarm burger and chips but comes ina little pot that comes down rails to your table. Other than that, chips everywhere that cost a million pounds

I think the problem is that the more successful they have gotten more successful they have become even richer and less relatable.

Can't help but think they have help in the form of a regular cleaner or nanny. It's a bit of an elephant in the room for me. People nowhere near as rich as them have help so surely they do.

But it is still funny.

thedogisstaring · 13/06/2023 18:20

The food is crap and expensive. We have found the best thing is to make sandwiches and eat them while queuing for rides. We did this when took kids to Alton Towers, stopped kids being bored in the queue as distracted them. Also you spend so much time queuing, going to sit down for lunch somewhere means at least one ride you won't get time to go on.

TakeMe2Insanity · 13/06/2023 18:23

The pizza place aka buffet hell makes gluten free pizza separately and delivers to your table which is a god send if you are coeliac.

@Needmoresleepmorecoffee I think you might be in the wrong thread but I’m intrigued to know which one you were replying to! 😂

They're talking about the parenting hell podcast which was mentioned near the top of my thread!

And yes I completely agree with you, they are funny but lots of times their stories or elements of them have been completely unrelatable to me given the massive disparity in our wealth/living conditions. And also they don't seem to have any awareness of it either which is strange especially considering Beckett's more humble upbringing etc.

Yes that is true. Although we are going on a weekday and last time there were virtually no queues at all (although it was a different season).

Is this near where they do the shows? I'm just trying to remember, I remember a small stall there because I asked them for hot water to heat up the baby's bottle hah. Or do you mean a sit in cafe ?

Oh I get it now ! Thank you - I’m off to have a listen 😊

Another vote for the pizza place, they cooked a vegan pizza for dh and I'm pretty sure that a regular cheese and tomato was on the buffet (last went a few years back but would assume it was the same).

roughtyping · 13/06/2023 20:33

We went to the Bull's Head in Alton which we liked and they were really lovely with our wee one. The food in the park is fine, nothing really special - at least where we ate. We did like the Pizza & Pasta buffet - the veggie pizza was actually really good.

It's called Little Explorers Lunch Box and is a sit in cafe. It's next to Jo-Jo and Gran-Gran.

Hope that helps.

Hedonism · 13/06/2023 20:52

Take a picnic! Last time I thought oh sod it, I'll just buy something, we ended up in a 50 mile long queue with 2 bored hangry children.

GobbolinoCat · 13/06/2023 21:43

@WeightoftheWorld

Talbot Inn /bridge hotel same place can't remember which part does food. Absolutely beautiful location as well.
