Do you wear a tracksuit on a plane?

Or do you have a specific plane outfit?
I never used to really and would fly in whatever clothes I was wearing that day, (jeans and a jumper usually).
I've noticed people seem to have specific outfits to fly now, a posh tracksuit (if one exists)!?
I (snobbishly) see tracksuits as a bit chavvy but also now want to get one for flying!

I think people tend to wear tracksuits because they don't need a belt with it ie something to be removed during security

Other clothes don't need belts either if they fit properly.

If going on holiday, I wear my bulkiest clothes. So if I'm going somewhere hot where I expect to be mostly wearing light clothes, I'll probably travel in something that I can wear if the weather turns a bit cooler, so jeans and Converse usually, with a light hoodie, I'm always cold on planes anyway.

I suppose the people who wear gym/sportswear all the time also wear it on planes.

Hi @blueby7 ,
Mine is a French make (Mademoiselle en Baskets) which probably doesn’t help you much, sorry! I have seen nice ones in H&M and Decathalon tho! Hope you find something lovely and comfy!

SnowfallSnowball · 13/06/2023 13:19

On a long haul flight I opt for a tracksuit as it's the most comfortable. I have an 11 hour flight in couple of weeks and that's what I'll wear or leggings and a hoodie. Short haul flights I tend to wear my regular everyday clothes. Like others though I couldn't give a fuck what other people think. Comfort is key!

I don’t own a tracksuit. Short haul I wear whatever, usually my bulkiest shoes and clothes. Long haul I’d wear leggings and layers on top

SnowfallSnowball · 13/06/2023 13:21

Oh and definitely a sports bra or a non wired bra - damn that underwire!

Neverinamonthofsundays · 13/06/2023 13:25

I do not own a tracksuit nor will I ever. I just fly in whatever I have put on that morning unless I am flying for work then I try for a more professional outfit other than jeans.

lakesummer · 13/06/2023 13:27

I currently use a black leisure top and bottom that I picked up in Tesco's of all unlikely places last time I was in the UK.

It was described as Luxe which I think is pushing it. But it is comfortable, nicer than average fabric, a relaxed fit and looks reasonably put together.

lakesummer · 13/06/2023 13:28

On a short haul flight I would just wear normal clothes.

Chypre · 13/06/2023 13:29

Depends on if it is a 45 min city-hop to Amsterdam (plain clothes) or 12hrs+ to Singapore (tracksuit galore).

BriarHare · 13/06/2023 13:30

I normally just wear jeans, but in March on a long haul flight, I decided to make an effort to wear comfy clothes (not sure why as I find jeans perfectly comfortable).

I wore Sweaty Betty power leggings, a vest and a long, thin ‘duster’ cardigan. I wore trainers and took a big but thin scarf. I was frozen at Heathrow and boiled alive in Barbados airport. So I didn’t get it quite right.

HoppingPavlova · 13/06/2023 13:30

I wear leggings, and a long sleeve soft top, and a really long line wool knit cardigan. I am fat, it’s not flattering, and look somewhat like a bag lady when I fly. But, I am comfortable and do not freeze to death (find planes to be like ice chests).

mindutopia · 13/06/2023 13:31

I do not own a tracksuit. 😂No, I just wear normal clothes in layers - jeans or trousers of some sort, t-shirt, cardigan or jumper, with comfortable flat shoes.

OrchidsBlooming · 13/06/2023 13:42

I do a lot of long haul, so actually thinking about it, I do have an outfit! 😳
I wear these https://www.lululemon.co.uk/en-gb/p/dance-studio-mid-rise-jogger-full-length-online-only/prod9080134.html sized up and in black. They don't bag at the knee like joggers do and somehow manage to be lightweight and yet warm enough. I wear them with a vest top, usually uniqlo airism with a built in bra and then a big hoodie if going somewhere cold or a lightweight/soft long sleeve teeshirt if somewhere hotter again uniqlo is excellent for these. Scarf and shoes depending on where I'm travelling and the weather there.
I never thought about it as my 'airplane outfit' but now I'm quite excited to add it to my packing list like the infamous 'breakfast dress' on a previous post!

CaloundraBlues · 13/06/2023 13:45

I fly long haul frequently and I wear soft, thin jersey joggers, plain t and a soft, bagwingy sleeved hoodie which is similar to a track suit I guess. It's very comfy and easy to slip the hoodie off and on due to temperature changes, I'm almost 50 btw

Kanaloa · 13/06/2023 13:48

I wear joggers and a sweatshirt with trainers if it’s a long flight. Otherwise I’d just wear anything I wanted. But then I don’t get drawn into avoiding certain things because I’ve judged them as ‘chavvy.’ I wear what I like and what I think looks nice and is practical and comfy.

EmpressSoleil · 13/06/2023 13:50

Short haul, normal day clothes. Long haul, soft joggers (not too thick), t-shirt (as I tend to boil on planes) then hoodie, wrap, something like that, for chillier moments. Comfort all the way. I find jeans to be one of the most uncomfortable clothing items generally, so I certainly wouldn't want to wear them on a long flight.

WonderDays · 13/06/2023 13:51

I have two aeroplane comfy outfits depending on the time of the year.

canigetitmyself · 13/06/2023 13:58

I saw a family at the airport all beige cycling shorts and matching t-shirts . All four of them

Two little boys looked pristinely. I wonder how they looked on arrival 🤣

Marblessolveeverything · 13/06/2023 14:00

I wear something that can be wrung out in the sink and dried quickly. Generally light summer maxi dress that air dried. No belts etc - and yes to the most comfortable sports bra, slip on shoes/sandals etc.

TheNinjaWife · 13/06/2023 14:01

I also have a few plane outfits. I actually call my winter long haul one my ‘posh tracksuit’. I wear it with a nice blouse and under that a strappy vest. Because of the pattern it would not look out of place in most offices, as looks like a suit on, but in more relaxed style/ material.

Lampzade · 13/06/2023 14:02

I wear yoga trousers or black leggings with long sleeved jersey top and a hoodie
I never wear jeans , skirts or dresses when I travel.

BitOutOfPractice · 13/06/2023 14:10

I have a Sweaty Betty jumpsuit thing in black that I often wear. Looks reasonably put together and it's so comfy.

I also have some jersey culottes which I wear with layers top half.

I've also worn yoga pants and a sweat shirt. I just want to be comfortable and warm / not too hot.

And I always have an oversized scarf thingy in case I need another layer.

I would never wear jeans - but then I hardly ever do anyway

BitOutOfPractice · 13/06/2023 14:12

@GCalltheway I can't tell if your indignation is a joke or not? But if you think wearing comfortable clothing on aeroplanes is what has sent this country to the dogs, I think you are mistaken

HeckinBamboozled · 13/06/2023 14:23

I wear some kind of stretchy leggings or yoga pants, longline t-shirt and an oversized cardigan. But if I'm traveling in the summer I usually wear a sun dress and bring some loungewear that's I'll change into on the plane.

MammaTo · 13/06/2023 14:48

I try to get a nice “loungewear” set to travel in. Admittedly I have been known to buy a travel outfit for girls trips as well - the airport is part of my holiday though. I love getting there early and browsing duty free and having a drink.
