Anyone else amazed at the 4 children who survived a plane crash and then 40 days in the Amazon.

I only caught this by chance but on 1st may a plane crashed in the Amazon rainforest killing all the adults aboard. Four children including one baby survived. They have been found alive forty days later!

The eldest was 13 and they're all from an indigenous tribe so familiar with the rainforest but I still think it's incredible.

The Colombian military shared a photo of the children in the jungle

Colombia plane crash: Four children found alive in Amazon after 40 days

It is a "magical day", says the president, as the four siblings are found after 40 days missing.

Remember the story of the boys who were stranded on some island off Papua new Guinea?

They survived for months too. The anti - Lord of the Flies. Very inspiring.

Rollinghill · 10/06/2023 19:13

Yes a wonderful story, but how traumatic for the kids.

Whyohwhyohwhy123 · 10/06/2023 19:14

It’s amazing they all survived and managed to keep the 1 year old alive because they are still so vulnerable at that age. It’s no mean feat to keep a 3 year alive either.

Teddypops · 10/06/2023 19:15

I predict a film 🎥 of this!

cavalier · 10/06/2023 19:15

i cried .. how vulnerable and innocent to be in such an awful and scary situation.. they have lost their Mummy 😢 their daddy is waiting for tbem and Nan ..
bless their hearts

Radi0liverpool · 10/06/2023 19:18

I think they grow up fast anyway. I've seen 13 year olds carrying around their own babies there.

Radi0liverpool · 10/06/2023 19:19

But yes an incredible story. I just mean that it's not unusual for children to be looking after their own infants there

IhearyouClemFandango · 10/06/2023 19:21

Utterly amazing.

Reminded me of the book 'The Explorer '.

PinkPlantCase · 10/06/2023 19:25

It’s miraculous!

Reading about it this morning had me in tears, the older two children have done so well.

I don’t even know if I’d be able to keep a group of children including a 1 year alive in the jungle for 40 days. They’ve been through so much I so glad they’ve been found alive. Hopefully they’re out of hospital soon and back with their family.

What amazing, brave and clever children. They have gone through so much and I hope they get all the support they need. If anyone does make a film all the profits should go to them to help them rebuild their lives.

PutinSmellsPassItOn · 10/06/2023 19:52

These kids are amazing but will also be extremely traumatised, I hope they're left alone to heal and process what's happened. And I hope their family are good people who won't exploit them and their story.

Amazing

Mummyoflittledragon · 10/06/2023 20:05

I was so choked when I saw this on the news. Amazing that the 2 older children managed to keep the younger ones alive.

excelledyourself · 10/06/2023 20:08

Wow, this made me cry.

Those older kids are beyond amazing. Thank god they didn't have to endure any further trauma of losing one of their siblings under their care. The physical and emotional strain they must have been under is unthinkable.

And what an effort by the rescue team, with the leaflets and the grandmothers recording. So simple, but so smart.

And bless their grandfather, apologising for bothering the president by asking to have the children with him.

I hope they all get well and go on to live well.

Billyho · 10/06/2023 20:12

It’s one of those stories, that if it was in a film you’d say it was rubbish, as if that could happen!

but it has, totally amazing!

Clawdy · 10/06/2023 20:20

Amazing inspiring story. I hadn't realized their father is still alive.

35965a · 10/06/2023 20:23

They’re incredible children. It must have been so traumatising to go through that after being in a plane crash and your mother dying. The search was relentless for them too, the army and volunteers did an amazing job finding them.

RangleDrang · 10/06/2023 20:29

I highly recommend the incredible film 'Wings Of Hope' directed by Werner Herzog about a german teenage girl surviving in the peruvian jungle after being the sole survivor of a plane crash, her mither died in the flight. It is probably the most incredible story I've ever heard.
This story is also amazing, thier ability to survive is unfathomable.

Newnamenewname109870 · 10/06/2023 20:32

Such amazing news. I can’t imagine how scared those children must have been surviving a plane crash, losing their parents and then staying alive. I’m amazed that they kept that baby alive and so happy for them. I’d love to know (later on, once they’re home and settled) how they did it and what they ate. Thank goodness the baby wasn’t any younger but he/she would be used to so much milk. Making me sad now 😢

WTF. That's not growing up fast. That's dealing with the result of childhood abuse the best way they can.

Well I'm just stating what I saw. I was there for two years

rightioly · 10/06/2023 20:48

Amazing I hope they are now well looked after

PickledMuffin · 10/06/2023 20:53

my god, how amazing. so sad though. having to go through the crash in the first place, lose their mother and endure having to survive. i couldn't imagine it as an adult let alone a child.
