What was the best wedding gift you received?

A friend of mine is getting married in a few weeks so looking for gift ideas.
They don't have a gift registry and they've been together for years so already have things they need for a house etc!
Would rather give a gift as opposed to money.

So, what was the best thing you received for your wedding day?

A cheese afternoon tea Grin

Enko · 08/06/2023 11:32

It's 26 years since dh and I married the things that are still in use/around are

A glass and wood salad bowl
A painting from Lønstrup Denmark
a Georg Jensen weather station
a tablecloth
Our dinner service.

Lots or Creuset and a Dualit toaster at the pricier end of the scale. They will last decades and bring me joy every time I use them.

We also received a Roberts Radio and really good Bluetooth speaker which we use every single day and I think of the kind people who gave them to us.

Pretty sure we still have presents in some boxes that have been in the garage since we moved in (20 years ago), with unopened wedding presents in. Wedding was 24 years ago.

Who knows what's in there.

Thesunwillcomeoutverysoon · 08/06/2023 11:37

We got a voucher to go llama trekking.. Made for a fab and fun weekend away! !

MsSquiz · 08/06/2023 11:42

My favourite wedding gifts were:
Le Crueset casserole dish
Restaurant vouchers for when we returned from honeymoon

Bluesclues1 · 08/06/2023 11:47

Not those personalised Etsy prints that have been suggested - nice for a wedding card but not on the wall. We received a couple of them and they’re not our style at all so are in the loft.

Our favourite things were a case of wine and eurostar vouchers!

CalistoNoSolo · 08/06/2023 11:51

Two mixed cases of wine.

I gave a friend a painting. I was working at a graduate art school at the time and one student was particularly talented and she loved it! It was totally unique present and it might be the one thing that gets seen every day, 25 years later. I knew she like art though.
My sister makes quilts and gave a cousin an amazing piece framing a photograph from her wedding. But it wasn't her kind of thing at all and she's now divorced so it has been banished (though if i was her I would have swapped out the photo, even though the original was printed on the fabric). I don't think she ever displayed it though.
My worst gift was bog standard silver photo frames. Not on my list and not my style snd I expect may have been a regift.
One gift not on my list but was used often was a pair of glass vases.

Jewelanemone · 08/06/2023 12:03

A dive computer.

I'm getting married next year and although we have a house and everything already, there are always things people like to upgrade or want to spend a bit extra on that they usually wouldn't. I dont actually want any gifts but if someone insists id love vouchers to places I can go and pick something like a new dining table (not the full cost obviously but the dxtra given means you can buy one a little higher out your general budget) or nice decent quality bedsheets, new curtains, recarpet etc.
After a wedding you don't generally have the money to splash out on your house.
But I would discuss it with the bride and groom first some people may be offended.

gogohmm · 08/06/2023 12:21

Insulated backpack and picnic rug. Lasted longer than my marriage! Still going strong at 25 years old

MrsKwazi · 08/06/2023 12:26

Victorinox steak knives
Electric bread knife (it is used to cut everything, even styrofoam)
Two posh champagne bucket cooler things that I use as vases, they get fresh flowers every Friday

user50316 · 09/06/2023 15:30

Thanks all!
Nothing against cash usually for weddings, but they aren't in need of money to be blunt, hence why there's no gift registry 😂

I really liked the idea of a voucher for a restaurant so have gone for that. Thank you!

A painting from a very well known artist who was also a very good friend. It's worth about £10k now but I would never part with it. Deciding which gallery might like it after I have no need for it.

UnravellingTheWorld · 09/06/2023 15:49

Denby!!! We were perfectly happy with seconds, and it's very expensive even then.

Isthisblocked · 09/06/2023 16:19

A Le Creuset gratin dish (smallish oval shape) was a wedding gift over 40 years ago and it is still in use 3 to 4 times a week. Perfect for Mac and cheese, roasting a couple of chicken breasts, a special vegetable side for Sunday lunch - the list goes on. And the second most useful wedding gift is a large, shallow Le Creuset lidded casserole dish. Endlessly versatile.

Surely2023IsTheYearForMyRainbowBaby · 09/06/2023 16:27

The best wedding present I received was this beautiful boy!! Sadly no longer with me, though he lasted 5 years longer than my marriage did!

What was the best wedding gift you received?
inloveandmarried · 09/06/2023 16:32

Decent electric blanket.

cocksstrideintheevening · 09/06/2023 16:37

Honestly can't remember. I have a massive crystal bowl thing that sits in a cupboard with spare keys in it. Mostly got money, spent it on honeymoon, that I do remember.

caringcarer · 09/06/2023 16:46

I was one of about 5 people who bought my dd a wedding gift, most gave them a cheque or US dollars for honeymoon. She asked me for a tent for camping. I asked her fiance who was often camping which one they'd like and he sent me a link. It had 2 bedrooms, a kitchen area and a toilet room. It was about £350 9 years ago. They still use it several times a year. She said they always think of me when putting it up.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 09/06/2023 16:49

A Kenwood Chef - still going strong 49 years later.

Idgaff · 09/06/2023 16:51

Wooden chopping board and knife set with names and date of wedding engraved on them

Leapintothelightning · 09/06/2023 16:55

This isn't a gift I got but I have it to one of my friends for her wedding and wish someone had given me something like it!

I bought my best friend a voucher for a famous restaurant. That way they could have a very special meal out. They loved it

Be mindful that vouchers for meals, experiences etc have a use-by date...
