Can you let me know your hidden gems? Happy to travel wherever in the UK and extra points if they have a sandy beach!

Charmouth & Lume Regis on the Jurassic Coast have Sandy beaches; other lovely ones along there are Branscombe & Beer, though they are pebble beaches.
North Devon coast - our favourite is Putsborough Beach; closely followed by Croyde & Saunton Sands - all sandy but not exactly unknown.

Beer in Devon , it’s shingle but absolutely stunning and it’s a quaint traditional little fishing town . Talacre beach in N Wales has an awful touristy caravan park by it but carry onto the beach and it’s miles of beautiful sandy beach and is an area of outstanding natural beauty .. it is popular but it’s so big it’s not an issue and you can walk along it for miles .
Watchet is a gorgeous coastal harbour town .. popular but get on the steam railway and travel along the coast , get off at Dunster for a sandy dog friendly beach or Porlock

Oh my god! Porlock Hill, once done never forgotten. I know someone who attempted that while towing a horsebox!

Yes, it’s meant to be the steepest road in ?the UK. We did it in a heavy fog and it was…character building 🤣

I love that bit of coastline

My fave coastline is the Northumbrian one though (and some of the County Durham coastline). We also love south East Scotland, there are some hidden gems up there, not too far over the border

I have just been to the Moray Coast. It was beyond beautiful but so, so quiet! Visit Cullen, Findhorn, Hopemans . Our only problem was finding a coffee stop with a sea view!!!

I love going to Filey with its lovely long, sandy beach.

My favourite beach too!

blanketsforall · 08/06/2023 20:39

Covehithe in suffolk and Eccles-on-Sea Norfolk - can't park very close to either so makes them quieter than most on that coast.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 08/06/2023 20:40

Filey is hardly "lesser known", nor is Northumberland to anyone east of the Pennines.

Mogg's Eye Beach in Lincolnshire is very quiet, but its not a town.

Zingylimes · 08/06/2023 20:41

In Norfolk, Sea Palling, Waxham and Mundesley are much quieter than touristy Wells, Holkham, Hunstanton etc

Whyohwhyohwhy123 · 08/06/2023 20:47

Skinningrove which is north of Staithes. Very sandy beach.
markse by the sea between Saltburn and Redcar which also both have miles of sandy beach
Skinburness and siloth on the Cumbrian side of the solway
most of the beaches in dumfries and Galloway

South Shields isn’t really a hidden gem either!

Isle of Wight beaches are amazing but very popular. Ryde beach is beautiful and there is a lot of sand even at high tide.

Shanklin is also a beautiful beach but only when the tide is going out, it basically vanishes at high tide. Sandown still has beach at high tide and is lovely for swimming.

People look at me like I’m mad when I say how lovely Margate beach is but it genuinely is a lovely expanse of sand and the coast between Margate and Ramsgate is a gift of one beautiful bay after another. There is also a sea pool in Margate which is a wonderful thing. I love Margate😍

I live on the South Coast and my little beach is lovely but it’s busy enough without sharing on the internet🤣 It’s only got sand at low tide and it’s definitely the poor relation of the area but I love it. I was in the sea this evening with beautiful views either way along the coast and just thinking how lucky I am😍

If money isn't an issue, then the Scilly Isles are absolute gems for quiet, unspoilt sandy coves, (Bryher and St. Martins are absolutely stunning) but the Islands are not cheap to get to, and mega ££££ to stay!

sheepdreams · 08/06/2023 22:39

The coastline stretching from Roker, Seaburn, Whitburn, Marsden and South Shields. Fab walk albeit a little long!

We went on the ferry to the Isle of Man a few years ago, stunning beaches, safe and clean for swimming, little steam trains everywhere and hardly any traffic, Castles to go in and lots to see and do. It was a perfect seaside holiday.

Bamburgh definitely isn't a lesser known seaside town, it's been the UK's best beach for 3 years now.

OttoGraph · 09/06/2023 14:36

@Hedgesfullofbirds ssshhhh

BarbaraofSeville · 09/06/2023 14:44

Most of these places will be rammed tommorow afternoon.

If you want quiet, just go to your nearest beach, or whichever one you like and plan to get there in the morning. You'll be able to park easily, get breakfast or lunch just before you're ready to leave, and then you can set off home just as it's getting stupidly busy.

MyMachineAndMe · 08/06/2023 18:06

I love going to Filey with its lovely long, sandy beach.

Agreed, and Bridlington too. They have 2 beaches. South beach is better sand and North beach with sand and some large white round pebbles.

BarbaraofSeville · 09/06/2023 14:54

The Isle of Man is a lovely place for a seaside holiday and fairly quiet as long as you don't go during TT or Manx GP week.

As well as beaches there's the glens for walking and a few different trains - you can spend a day going from the south of the island to the top of the mountain on a steam train, horse drawn tram, electric railway and mountain train all and back again, all on one ticket.

Hedgesfullofbirds · 09/06/2023 15:39

@OttoGraph, sorry, let the cat out of the bag!😂
