I'm a bit thick when it comes to spag and just need a little proofread if anyone has 5 mins?

Hello,

My name is GimmieCousCous and I have been in temporary accommodation since April of 2016 due to a house fire at my rented property.

In July of 2016 a decision was made that I had made myself intentionally homeless. The reasoning given in this decision was that I did not move back into the property, and wait to be evicted. However, this would not have been possible due to the landlord intending to repair the fire damage and sell the property.

In the same month I received the homeless decision, I submitted a review and have been waiting since July of 2016 for a decision.
From July 2016 until July 2021 I had been receiving extension requests. In July 2021 these requests ceased.
After many emails and phonecalls over many years, I did receive correspondence from SomeWoman, in which they proposed an extension until 06/05/2022. I have had no updates since. I have been told that there is a backlog due to covid but had already been waiting almost 4 years for a decision before the pandemic.

Despite numerous emails and phone calls over the last 7 years I am unable to get anywhere with my case and find myself living in unsuitable accommodation for my children. I can provide more details on why my current living situation is detrimental to both me, and my children if needed.

Thank you in advance for any help you may be able to offer me.

Kind regards,

GimmieCousCous.

I would put formal complaint in the subject line

LIZS · 06/06/2023 14:53

Urgent rehousing issue - "location"

GimmieCousCous · 06/06/2023 14:59

Do you think I should type it out as if I've wrote it to him or just say "below is a copy of my complaint to suchandsuchcouncil. Any help would be greatly appreciated" and copy and paste it?

I would begin with what you want to happen rather than leaving it for last.

*Dear Whoever,

My name is GimmieCousCous and I am asking for your assistance in securing safe and settled accommodation for myself and my family.

We have been residing temporary accommodation for more than 7 years due to a house fire at my rented property. *

*Dear whoever,

My name is GimmieCousCous and I am asking for your assistance in securing safe and settled accommodation for myself and my three children.

Our family have been residing unsuitable and unsafe temporary accommodation for more than 7 years due to a house fire at our rented property.

Because the house had extensive fire damage, we did not move back into the property; it was uninhabitable. The landlord effectively ended my tenancy in order to repair and sell the property. In July 2016 a decision was made by somewoman that I had made myself intentionally homeless. I was never given the information required for me to dispute this egregious error.

Upon receiving the this decision, I immediately submitted a review. I have now been waiting since July 2016 for a rectified decision.

From Sept 2016 through July 2021 I received statutory homelessness decision extension requests every 2 months. At that point the requests ceased.

I did receive correspondence from somewoman on 22/04/2022 in which they proposed an extension of the review until 06/05/2022. I have had no updates since, despite contacting 1234567 via phone and [email protected] via email many times over these 7 years.

During this time, we have lived above a string of problem tenants that has made living here very difficult. There is regularly open class A drug use, music, parties, fights, and arguments both day and night. My children have now spent most of their lives living in these unsettled conditions, unable to sleep or study and with the constant unease of not feeling safe at home. It has had an obvious impact on their development and mental wellbeing.

I am asking for your assistance in securing safe and settled accommodation. Thank you in advance for any help you may be able to offer me.

Yours faithfully,

GimmieCousCous.

^^ This is perfect.

I also very much like OP’s email address for the council…

LIZS · 06/06/2023 15:17

I would address the mp/councillor directly with a short summary of the situation which has necessitated making a formal complaint to council,of which a copy is attached, and asking for their support in securing appropriate long term solution. Then attach the letter of complaint.

Agreed.

Always a good idea to tell them what you need while you have their attention. Because so many people won't read much past the first few lines.

@AliceOlive Thst is wonderful. Thank you for taking the time to write that out for me. I tend to use way more words than needed to get my point across and you've summed everything up perfectly.

Once again, thank you to everyone who has commented. It's really appreciated x

@LIZS I'll do this too. Thank you

Easy because your original was great - just some minor editing. I am an impatient reader and have worked for people like me. My draft would have been like this:

"HELP!!! WE NEED A HOUSE!!!!!"

Keep us updated. and be a squeaky wheel. The situation is absolutely unacceptable.
