How sexy is a man who can cook?!

whatafryup · 05/06/2023 17:34

So first night staying over with a new partner (both of us had child free weekends!) on Friday and not only did he cook dinner, he cooked the mother of all fry ups for Saturday brunch - clearly knows his way round a kitchen as well as good ingredients!

He thinks I am exaggerating when I say I find it sexy that he can cook! After 15 years with my ex who only during lockdown learnt how to make spag bol for the kids, it's bloomin lovely. Yeah more fool me for putting up with that but who else agrees - a useful man in the kitchen, sexy AF?!

Basic requirement of an adult. Not sexy, just....normal.

WunWun · 06/06/2023 16:46

Nothing attractive about this for me. Being able to cook well is great, but it doesn't turn me on!

Going on about food, calling yourself a foodie and expecting praise/eternal gratitude for cooking grandiose meals when I would be happy with pizza or whatever etc are a massive turn off for me.

ToBeOrNotToBee · 06/06/2023 16:48

Complete agreement with you there.

I had a ONS with someone who said they were a cook.

When I woke up in his studio the next day he made me the most amazing truffle omelette. Turns out he was a head chef at some fancy private members club.

I love that when a journalist asked Jay Rayner whether he could cook, he said "Of course I can-I'm an adult."

god there are some miserable, preachy posters on this thread

Can’t say it’s top of my list on the sexy-scale. An adult being able to feed themselves is probably one of the essential skills I’d expect someone to have.

Just because a man cooks, doesn’t mean he’s sexy.

That made me laugh though.

Most men can’t cook well (yes it’s even more sexy if they’re sexy to start with!). But lots of women can’t cook well either.

Paxed · 06/06/2023 17:04

The picture of that chef made me laugh, which didn’t come out! not the text.

Yep! The OP is in that new-partner bubble, let her enjoy the man and his good cooking! So many posters here that just want to rain on her parade.

I love living with a good cook too OP.

CatsOnTheChair · 06/06/2023 17:27

My FiL doesn't meet the sexy criteria.
He can, however, cook. And produced one good looking son who is cooking my dinner right now.

AffIt · 06/06/2023 17:43

No, I just expect adults to be able to do basic staying alive stuff.

A man who can sand, re-wax and then consistently keep a wooden floor clean with a MOP and BUCKET, on the other hand? Hold me back.

AffIt · 06/06/2023 17:46

(For context, the OH and I are both excellent and very keen cooks who often fight over whose turn it is to make dinner.

The hallway floor, however, is a major bone of contention in our house. Perhaps the OH is currently posting on a man forum about women who can sand, re-wax and clean wooden floors.)

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 06/06/2023 18:04

Someone who can cook imaginatively and well, and not make a massive mess, all without making a big deal out of it is very sexy indeed. 'Performance' cooking needing lots of praise and using every pot and bowl in the kitchen which is then left for someone else to deal with is deeply unsexy.

whatafryup · 06/06/2023 18:05

Clearly I've had a low bar for too long, thank god for divorces, eh?! Never gave it much thought until the weekend but after 15 years of doing 99% of the household stuff, cooking to me is now just a chore so having someone cook 2 meals for me in 24 hours was luxury!

@AffIt that made me laugh! Don't get me started on house cleaning!

He's a human being who can cook....would he feel the same about you?

WouldYouLikeYourMuffinButtered · 06/06/2023 18:07

An adult male who can dance, on the other hand.......

BitOutOfPractice · 06/06/2023 18:07

I speak as a rondo who has only cooked one full meal for over a year, yes it’s great. It’s why most married men are happier than married women.

newtb · 06/06/2023 18:08

Depends on the man. Tom Kerridge, never. Michel Roux and his uncle Michel about 30 years ago, yes.

TheChosenTwo · 06/06/2023 18:10

I feel eternally grateful that dh loves cooking and does 99% of it, i fucking hate it although will do it when required.
It’s not sexy, no, but for me it’s the best thing being cooked for as I appreciate it so much!
And he’s a bloody good cook too. I’ve never made a roast despite eating one most weekends, never made a Christmas dinner yet we host for over 20 of my family every year, and all the drudgery that goes with weekly cooking, he just gets on with it because he enjoys it and knows how to do it well. I can do it but only with a recipe book and my cooking most definitely comes with a side of resentment 😂😂😂
enjoy op, it’s lovely being cooked for!!

GalileoHumpkins · 06/06/2023 15:48

he cooked the mother of all fry ups for Saturday brunch

Did he cook it barefoot, shirtless and with the top button of his jeans undone?

I snorted out loud at this

Imagine the hot oil spitting out

But yeah I agree with everyone that cooking is basic. But if you find your dp sexy then he's sexy whatever he's up to. Mowing the lawn? Sexy. Changing the bedsheets? Sexy. Just walking around the house...etc

Anaemiafog · 06/06/2023 18:12

This can't be real. Fucking hell, you need to raise your standards. Would you say the same if your partner was female? It's attitudes like this that perpetuate the myth of a penis barring access to cookers, irons and washing machines.

Comedycook · 06/06/2023 18:13

I don't find it sexy...at all

DancedByTheLightOfTheMoon · 06/06/2023 18:17

You will never hear a man saying this about a new female partner.
Most men cook, my late husband did most of the cooking but wasn't so good at clearing up.
I actually prefer cooking for myself because we had very different tastes when it came to food.
But if it works for you Op make most of it !!

LubaLuca · 06/06/2023 18:20

It makes life easier, but I don't see it as a sexy skill.

GoldenGorilla · 06/06/2023 18:25

Yeah…..that wouldn’t strike me as sexy anymore than it’s sexy that my DH knows how to sweep the floor, or do laundry, or put petrol in a car - these are just basic adult skills. But it’s good you’re happy and enjoying times with your new partner :)
