Adult DC (23) getting two lower wisdom teeth out on Monday and is staying with us for a few days. Recommend me the best 'soft' foods to buy for next few days, please. Going to supermarket over weekend.

I lived on egg mayo and custard pits, it was so much worse than I expected it to be.

I had jelly, soup, rice pudding, yoghurt and also strangely ready salted Pringles!

If they’re impacted or otherwise tell them to clean and mouthwash the area. I didn’t and had antibiotics you could drink on as it was my birthday, got an infection and ended up on strong antibiotics you couldn’t drink on and a strong ticking off from the dentist!

Ice cream! I had mine out in 2 lots in my early 20s. First time I had loads of swelling. Second time my Gran bought me an ice cream immediately after I got out the dental hospital! No swelling

Neither DD nor I had any real pain after the removal, just a slightly achey jaw. The dentist did tell us to keep on top of the paracetamol and to take it before the anaesthetic wore off. We also rinsed with warm salty water about 3 times a day but we’re told not to spit as it could dislodge the clot leading to dry socket.

Keeping the holes clean and not dislodging the clots (no aggressive swishing, sucking, heat, etc) are the biggest jobs!

Be vigilent with the salt water (gentle) rinses. Avoid any food with bits and small pieces that can get trapped in the holes. No straws or hot foods at first. Rinse well after food every time. No alcohol.

Avoding dry socket, infection or trapped food is the ultimate goal.

I have heard that lower ones cause more pain and swelling. And depending on how impacted they are and how much force had to be used and what contortions your jaw was put into to access the teeth - will determine pain and swelling. I also found that my other teeth ached for almost a week - they had been though a lot too!

Tinned Ravioli and spaghetti, mashed potato with gravy. Very soft white bread with jam/chocolate spread in it, smoothies, yoghurt, chocolate mousse and soup were what I survived on each time but could eat ok after a week and managed lumps after a few days.
I would recommend straws too and having some co-codamol in.

No straws!! The suction can dislodge the clots and cause dry socket

DP had one out a few weeks ago and he got Yfood meal replacements, soups, and smoothies.

Had two impacted wisdom teeth out last year - I lived on soup, smoothies, yoghurt and honey and Weetabix (left in milk for a few mins) with honey for two and a half weeks (due to dry socket I had to stick to it a bit longer).

I had a late realisation that I could also have cold puddings like crème caramel etc so included those too towards the end!

Been to shops. Didn't over buy as it occurred to me there wouldn't be too much eating going on until later in the week. Bought
frozen peas for comfort
chocolate milk
strawberry & banana smoothie
pureed apples
Hagen Das Belgian chocolate ice cream
1 x baby food Rachel chicken and rice
M&S tuna pate
M&S Coronation chicken 'pot' which may need blending
Potatoes for mashing
Veg for home made soup to be to be pureed.
Borrowed a better blender.
Have loaded the freezer with ice packs for journey
Still to get a pair of tights and zip lock bags to do the face support ice mask.
Huge thanks to all.
DC after looking in the fridge said: "Gawd, Mum, hope you didn't buy this lot for me. Not planning on needing any of that."
Wish us luck!

Watch out for strawberry seeds and rice. They are both excellent at getting stuck in the holes.
