Adult DC (23) getting two lower wisdom teeth out on Monday and is staying with us for a few days. Recommend me the best 'soft' foods to buy for next few days, please. Going to supermarket over weekend.

When I had my wisdom teeth out I couldn't open my jaw properly for weeks, so I couldn't chew anything. It wasn't much fun.

I lived on soup and crème caramel (which a lovely neighbour made for me).

Mrsjayy · 03/06/2023 10:46

When my sister got hers out she lived in scrambled egg and yoghurt.

When I had mine out, I lived on soup and weetabix/ rusks with hot milk (goes mushy). I couldn't chew or bite for a good few days.

Gabbies · 03/06/2023 10:47

i had all 4 outs and lived off yogurts, wotsits (crisps that melt), scrambled eggs and soups

Lkgcsr · 03/06/2023 10:48

Tinned Ravioli and spaghetti, mashed potato with gravy. Very soft white bread with jam/chocolate spread in it, smoothies, yoghurt, chocolate mousse and soup were what I survived on each time but could eat ok after a week and managed lumps after a few days.
I would recommend straws too and having some co-codamol in.

Gabbies · 03/06/2023 10:48

Im sure they will but make sure they rinse properly a few times a day, I found the scrammed eggs was a perfect size to fit in the hole

GoodVibesHere · 03/06/2023 10:50

Those pots of Rachel's rice pudding are delicious. I like them cold straight from the fridge.

SlipSlidinAway · 03/06/2023 11:01

As others have said, he won't be able to open his mouth properly or chew for a while. Do make sure he isn't tempted to use a straw as the sucking action can dislodge the blood clot in the wound and lead to dry socket. I learnt that the hard way!!

You could make some hearty soups and blend. Fruit smoothies - include bananas to make them more substantial and frozen fruit which will help numb/freshen his mouth.

If I've had a hard time at the dentist I sometimes make myself a cheese pudding which is a bit like a soufflé with breadcrumbs. Very easy and very tasty. Something like this - www.deliciousmagazine.co.uk/recipes/savoury-cheese-pudding/

These are so helpful, thank you.
@Memba that’s a great shout. That will go down well. Did you get all four out and was your jaw sore because it was the bottom ones?
@Gabbies i might get Wotsits just for the laugh as I imagine it won’t be much fun
@GoodVibesHere yes, I will definitely get cold pots of something as straight from fridge makes sense
@SlipSlidinAway i get what you are saying. When this DC got tonsils out they were back in hospital an extra twice for bleeds so I’m going to avoid the straws

@SlipSlidinAway and that’s a great recipe for day 3 or 4
Yes also to the smoothies and yoghurt. Might have to purée a soup too as suggested.

I had all 4 out all u could manage was yogurts

Pixiedust1234 · 03/06/2023 11:38

I couldn't open my mouth for the first couple of days so had to drink lukewarm soup and meal replacements through a straw. After that it was scrambled eggs, yoghurt, jelly and ice cream Grin

Make sure you have some liquid painkillers in as well.

TenseTessa · 03/06/2023 11:39

Liquids - soups, thin mil shakes perhaps even meal replacement

Get soluble pain relief and laxative if using codeine based meds.

I had to post chocolate buttons into my mouth. Nothing else worked !

Even McD milkshake was too hard to suck.

It's was dreadful as I recall. Had yellow neck for about 3 months from bruising and lost some sensation and movemeant in face where a nerve was cut in error.

TenseTessa · 03/06/2023 11:40

Sorry painting a bad picture there. I did have all 4 removed and they were impacted.

Hellno45 · 03/06/2023 11:40

I had all 4 out and went to the pub after. I was 19 and very irresponsible. I don't remember struggling to eat.

Hellno45 · 03/06/2023 11:41

Actually tell a lie my chest hurt after and i have no idea why.

DoeRayMe · 03/06/2023 11:41

The tiny pasta you get for toddlers that are so small that mixed with a smooth pasta sauce they can just swallow

We just bought a blender as all dd could manage was smoothies for the first week. She only had one tooth out but her jaw was so swollen she looked like a hamster.
Then we did soups, porridge and things that could be mashed. She couldn't move her jaw to chew for at least 2 weeks.

endofthelinefinally · 03/06/2023 11:48

The dentist gave her a small gel icepack that we wrapped in a tea towel. I filled and froze a hot water bottle and wrapped that up, which was quite comfortable to use too.

elliesmummy19 · 03/06/2023 11:50

I’m getting a dental implant next week (the first stage of it) so I’m following for some ideas!

elliesmummy19 · 03/06/2023 11:55

Also adding- NO STRAWS! Dry socket is HORRENDOUS! I’d give birth again before doing that. Don’t risk it!

JorisBonson · 03/06/2023 11:56

I lived on mash, gravy and corned beef for a week!

newtb · 03/06/2023 12:03

Dd had some vlcd shakes, but was eating normally after all 4 were removed when she was 17.
