How do you clean your (eye) glasses?

Mine have a bit of a hairspray film. I was about to use washing up liquid but I'm not sure if they might damage the blue light coating on them. What's the consensus? Thanks!

I keep them on in the shower (normal hot not having to have a cold one like the last week!) for a few minutes and wash my hair with them on (blind Grin) take them off on and put just outside the shower so they still get steamy. Then use the glasses cloth. Gets all the crap off.
Hate how foundation/skin make up gets stuck in the bits you can't clean though!

Washing up liquid, warm water & dry with kitchen roll.

Topseyt123 · 04/06/2023 03:27

I run them under the cold tap and then dry them with either a special microfibre glasses cloth or on my t-shirt.

Foxesandsquirrels · 04/06/2023 03:28

I breathe on them and use my sleeve 🙈

SoCalLiving · 04/06/2023 03:51

Does anybody else's glasses get grubby all the time?! I've only started wearing glasses everyday for the last few months and I swear they get so gross every day. Is it just me or is this just a thing that happens?
I have got slightly oversized glasses so the top bits always get a little foundation on them as they're pressed up near to my eyebrows. I swear I have to clean them multiple times a day.

SoCalLiving · 04/06/2023 03:52

I use the posh cleaning solution my partner got from his opticians and when I can find it, my own glasses cloth (currently lost). Going to try the washing up liquid trick.

adularia · 04/06/2023 07:23

I usually rinse under running water and dry with a tea towel. Occasionally I’ll dip them in my bath, depending on what’s in it. I have very expensive, complex prescription glasses too (also get free eye tests due to this).

KetoQueen · 04/06/2023 07:26

Nothing works better than fairy liquid!

NotMeNoNo · 04/06/2023 07:31

Every day , Bottle of opticians cleaning solutions and glasses e cloth. After many years of using tissues/sleeve/fairy liquid, I've finally managed to keep the anti glare film intact. Both the bottle and cloth last for ages.

Washing up liquid and water

Fernie6491 · 04/06/2023 08:31

I will quite often wear my glasses under the shower for a few minutes then remove them and dry with a soft microfibre cloth. i too have very complex lenses, and my opthalmologist advised never to use tissues or paper towels, they causes minutes scratches to the coating. Hopefully I shall soon have thin lenses, as I am halfway through having cataracts removed, and replacement lenses inserted, to my (near) prescription, one down and one to go!

Irridescantshimmmer · 04/06/2023 08:45

I spray mr muscle window and glass on a piece of toilet roll and wipe my lenses, front and back as well as the frames, then use the lense cloth to buff them up.

Works every time and more cost effective than the lense cleaner sprays.

Also do the same with my screens, helps to remove the food off my screens!

Kingdedede · 04/06/2023 08:53

I’ve never washed a pair of glasses in my 30+ years of wearing them, a wipe with a hanky every morning and a glasses wipe every once in a blue moon.

InAFettle · 04/06/2023 09:42

Spray if on the go with the micro fibre cloth. At home, hand wash and dry with micro fibre cloth. Don’t use paper towels or tissues as the wood pulp can scratch. Learned that the hard way

Oh lord am I disgusting??

I just always rub them on the edge of a bit of clothing like my jumper or tshirt (something soft). If it's got a particular really stuck on I'll just pop them under the tap then dry off with my clothes, but that's about once a year!

I've worn glasses for 30 years and always treated them like this - they get thrown loose in my handbag every day (I wear contact lenses in the daytime) - they don't even get particularly scratched or anything and I only change them once every few years. It might be a breeding ground for something but I very rarely get ill - one cold since 2020.

Can't believe how diligent everyone really is!!

This!

I was waiting for someone to say the rub them with the hem of their dress or whatever. It's all I ever do.
I've worn glasses for 30+ years and never done anything special.

The Fairy question is still in contention!

Ew

BrutusMcDogface · 04/06/2023 21:30

I use hand wash liquid and warm water. They smudge so easily if I try and wipe them with anything!

Beaujolaisqueen · 04/06/2023 21:31

I use fairy liquid and warm water, dry with kitchen towel. It gets rid of the grease.

Spanielsarepainless · 04/06/2023 21:35

I was told by my optician that Fairy liquid takes off the coating and to use liquid soap or glasses spray. But it's usually a clean handkerchief when things look a bit blurry.

WhisperingAutistic · 04/06/2023 21:40

I use window cleaning spray

WotNoUserName · 04/06/2023 21:43

I use my t-shirt or hoodie to clean them. That is it. I wear them all the time. Two pairs now, I have reading glasses because I'm so old Grin, so have to swap between the two.
