Just opened a bag of Kettle Chips, where are the rest of them?! I think there's more bag than crisps!

Where are the rest of my crisps?!

It looks disappointing. I'm on a diet so cant have any crisps.

BreathesOutSlowly · 02/06/2023 15:22

Fewer

Thank you, I also forgot the grammar pedant post.

They are sold by weight, not volume.

The air that is in there isn’t just plain air, it is special air that keeps them fresh.

Whaaat? How have I lived over 60 years without knowing about special air in crisp bags.....

kitsuneghost · 02/06/2023 15:26

BreathesOutSlowly · 02/06/2023 15:22

Fewer

Less as crisps are sold by weight
Only fewer if it sold by number

MorrisZapp · 02/06/2023 15:27

One packet of crisps isn't enough to see off a sandwich but two packets is too much 😭

dementedpixie · 02/06/2023 15:29

I also like baked snacks like monster munch and wotsits. I like to think they have fewer calories as they are actually made of air

FloydPepper · 02/06/2023 15:30

BreathesOutSlowly · 02/06/2023 15:22

Fewer

👏👏

I'm just setting out the MN Bingo card.

That's a normal portion, of which you have clearly lost sight of if you think there aren't enough crisps there.

People eat too many crisps in this country. In <insert name of more enlightened country> they only have crisps at parties. No-one would ever have crisps for lunch on a weekday. I bet you had a sandwich as well, no wonder there's an obesity crisis.

I couldn't possibly eat all those crisps, I'm too full after my Massive Salad.

Eyes down, dabbers at the ready.

🤣🤣🤣🤣

And bonus points if getting the latest "massive salad" in there

BreathesOutSlowly · 02/06/2023 15:31

Actually no. In this context crisps are a countable noun

@BarbaraofSeville can you add pointless grammar spat p please?

downtowndavinia · 02/06/2023 15:34

'Fewer'

StarStarStar

Anyway, what flavour are they?

It will say on the packet ‘packed in a protective atmosphere’. The sand is true of salad, massive or otherwise.

Fleebags · 02/06/2023 15:36

BreathesOutSlowly · 02/06/2023 15:22

Fewer

English is not my first (nor second) language, but surely it’s less and not fewer as the crisps are not sold by how many there are in a bag but by weight?

Fleebags · 02/06/2023 15:38

I miss McCoy’s salt & vinegar crisps. 😩

Ok I see now that I was wrong. Oh well. 😂

SleepingisanArt · 02/06/2023 15:23

Thank you everyone - I laughed so hard I actually cried! But now I have a question - can you have crisps (posh or otherwise) as a side to the massive salad or should they be consumed as a separate meal?

The massive salad comments always make me think of the French and Saunders ballerina sketch - "would you like a pea?", " couldn't possibly, I had a lettuce leaf on Wednesday " or something along those lines.......

Avocado and quinoa salad with a sprinkling of oven baked pomme de terre slices with a sunflower oil and sodium chloride glaze

BreathesOutSlowly · 02/06/2023 15:40

On the grammar front I believe that if we were referring to one ginormous crisp being too small we could refer to less crisp. As the crisps are in the plural things are, as is so often the case, different.

However, if you've never experienced the trauma of an oversized bag of crisps and an undersized portion within then you're probably not qualified to comment at all.

UndercoverCop · 02/06/2023 15:44

I ate them.
Apologies

spudulike1 · 02/06/2023 15:44

@HoofWankingSpangleCunt lidl cheapo crisps are my favourite. I would eat packets of them.

OrangePaint · 02/06/2023 15:45

@BarbaraofSeville best comment! I've got my dabber out...

FloydPepper · 02/06/2023 15:46

I think it is “fewer” as they are discrete items, regardless of being sold by weight. You could buy beans by weight but still have fewer of them?

FloydPepper · 02/06/2023 15:47

I’m also aware I’m part of the bingo now. I’m comfortable with that

diddl · 02/06/2023 15:48

Crisps have been sold by weight for years-it used ti say so on the packet-maybe still does?

Even so that looks like a alot of bag for the crisps!

Only thing to do is weigh them Op!

BreathesOutSlowly · 02/06/2023 15:48

FloydPepper · 02/06/2023 15:47

I'm with you in that.

'Embrace what you cannot change'. It's a mantra that would serve OP well.

Loopyloo159 · 02/06/2023 15:50

Talking of crisps i was distraught to only count 15 cheddars in my mini cheddar packet today ..usually at least 16 WTAF is going on with this world?!!
