Anyone else watching?

I wasn't supposed to be up this early but what the heck.

If Phil is so innocent of grooming, why has the young man not let out a statement saying so?

I don't think it should be his (the younger man's) responsibility to prove or disprove it either way. Hopefully his friends and family are keeping him away from the worst of the media anyway.

Hellenabe · 03/06/2023 19:53

I'm wondering if the DM are sitting on more stories here. PS seems to be getting off lightly after the interview and feels like old news. Is the young man going to say more? Are more young men being interviewed? Is there a more creepy link to his brother? Is Holly gate over and will she be back?

I'd be shocked if he then appears in IACGMOOH

purpleme12 · 03/06/2023 20:00

If his career is down the pan, I would absolutely predict him to be that show some time in the future.

Gothambutnotahamster · 03/06/2023 20:42

DARVO, 'casting couch' & abuse of power (& therefore abuser) are all words that are perfect to describe PS. He's abhorrent.

IJustHadToLookHavingReadTheBook · 03/06/2023 21:05

One of the cringiest and most disingenuous things I've ever seen. "We were just mates" and "I have a great marriage" being two of the maddest statements.

IJustHadToLookHavingReadTheBook · 03/06/2023 21:44

As someone who was groomed (by a teacher) this feels similar. My teacher would have said he was just being a mentor/had my best interests at heart etc. too and would also argue that as we didn't have sex until I was over the age of consent, it was all fine. But as he met me when I was 11, I respectfully disagree and I think that the same is true of PS and MM.

Firefly1987 · 04/06/2023 03:02

I haven't watched all the interview/s but I've seen clips and is it just me or did the interviewer try and ask him twice what he'd want to say to his wife, which generally means "now look to camera and give heartfelt apology" and he sidestepped that and instead spoke about previous convo with her. And he in fact didn't apologise to his wife in the interview?

Toujoursla896 · 04/06/2023 07:55

I found the interview distasteful.
The press have piled on him in a horrible way but this was definitely not the moment to plead for sympathy and say things like “do you want me to die?” as if he would not be taking any responsibility for that decision. This was the moment to fully accept responsibility for everything he has done and to apologise to his wife.

purpleme12 · 04/06/2023 10:06

But he's never acknowledged wrong doing to his wife publicly. Now or when he came out as gay.
That is the bit I can't get my head around.
When he came out as gay the big elephant in the room was that he was married and apparently still was at that point? No mention was made of that

His wife had know for decades at that point so it would have been disingenuous to apologise or imply she didn’t know what was going on.

That’s why the focus was on his sexuality.

purpleme12 · 04/06/2023 10:23

I think he should have said that his wife knew if that was the case

I saw him on Lorraine Kelly saying Steph and the girls had been a wonderful support , no .apology mind you.

Loopylalalou · 04/06/2023 12:49

Thinking on, there’s something very akin to watching a fight - you know someone is going to be the looser and past experience will allow you to pick whoever you think should be the winner.
Perhaps the Great British Public have decided to fight against TV stars creaming off massive salaries for relatively little effort and lording over them (I do think this started with Queue-gate). Perhaps they want PS to be the looser. Perhaps they want to take down HW as well (back to Queue-gate) and the fact she’s been reported as laying low in her £8mil villa meanwhile. Maybe we’re all fed up of paying their salaries through our purchases that go on the pay for advertising that then pays them. Don’t get me started on overpaid BBC ‘stars’ paid out of taxation….

varsitychic · 04/06/2023 14:50

@Loopylalalou I agree with you broadly, they are all overpaid and in film and tv the "talent" are treated like royalty which is immoral.

I feel it's tough for the BBC though as they are having to compete for presenters but yet can't pay anywhere near the amounts that commercial broadcasters like ITV / GB News / Global can. So you get Emily Maitliss and John Sopel leaving, and the likes of Holly and Phil at ITV. Commercially speaking BBC presenters aren't paid anything like what they could get elsewhere. I don't think the BBC deserves all the flack.

LadyEloise1 · 04/06/2023 19:19

A new low has been reached imho.
I just read an article on the DM website with photos of PS with his Mum after he was sacked.
Call me cynical but really !!!! 🤮

Mrsjayy · 04/06/2023 19:29

Yeah he wheeled out his elderly mother last weekend it looked like they were on a bloody hike !

marshmallowsforbreakfast · 04/06/2023 19:31

Just came in here to say what are these photos in the daily Mail of him and his mum? How bizarre. He just needs to hide away for a while, I wonder who is advising him.

Gothambutnotahamster · 04/06/2023 19:34

I wondered the same @marshmallowsforbreakfast - if he actually just went away quietly, it would all die down. I believe he thinks he can get his TV career back so is doing this to facilitate that. He's trying to claim victim hood, homophobia and being suicidal and if all that works, then he'll be forgiven and will worm his way back onto TV.

Hellenabe · 04/06/2023 20:35

Yes, I cringed at the Mail headline. I really hope he's not coming back to TV

Yeah see what you mean. Sat on a park bench attentively looking at mum with arm around her. He can't give it some space can he.

newjobnewstartihope · 04/06/2023 20:57

He really is the ultimate narc. Has to control the narrative. Gaslights everyone by threatening suicide. He's a hideous man

pilates · 04/06/2023 21:00

Yes the more I think of the interview the more sickening it becomes. It was a clear message to the media to back off. Now using his mother too - awful man.
