"Go on, have a dessert", after saying I didn't want one twice

Out for dinner with family members, we had a main course each and they fancied a dessert. I said I'd just have a coffee. Both of them started on at me to have one. I'm nearly 50 and know I didn't want one!

For context, I've a healthier diet now than I used to and lost 4 stone some years back. I still love my food, never skip meals, and there's nothing I don't like. However, desserts don't really appeal to me any more, but would still have the odd one and always cake for someone's birthday etc. I'd a slice of ginger cake earlier in the day, which I love.

Was I wrong to feel annoyed?

I'm vegetarian, people offer foods that are not vegetarian, I decline, they offer again and again until I explain that I'm vegetarian, I try to avoid "I don't want to eat dead animal thank you), and then get offended that I'm being bitchy about their choices.

Dh is lactose intolerant and finds people the same.

I don't drink alcohol and am on a low fat, low sugar diet for medical reasons. I do sometimes have dessert when I'm out though. However, I get truly frustrated at people who think I must have a sausage roll, cheese or a piece of cake as "one won't hurt" or try to get me to have a glass of wine! I don't understand the need to push things on people who've politely said no thank you.

It’s a reflection on them, not you.

It’s not true that “one won’t hurt” one will hurt. If you’re trying to achieve something, the one very much does hurt, and the mindset whereby this can be ignored is even more dangerous.

Society is getting more and more filled with people that are in bad shape, and a bad medical condition for the sole reason they are stuffing too much crap in their mouths.

Anyone who challenges that is shamed and ridiculed.

Don’t fold.

good luck!

My mother does this. She goes on and on like a duracell battery. It's a combination of a bad habit and being very controlling.

Say no once, twice if you have to do then ignore.
