Nice places to live near Chichester or Worthing

Hi everyone I'm looking to move to West Sussex. I would like somewhere I can have immediate access to off lead dog walks and rural views but also needs to have public transport links to Chichester college and a friendly, stable community..

My budget is £400,000 -£425,000 for a 2/3 bed house.

Horsham or Christ’s hospital? Christ hospital is quite rural but I’m sure there used to be an (irregular) train to Chichester. I could be wrong or it may be too far for what you are after.

SleepingisanArt · 01/06/2023 22:36

Emsworth has buses and trains to Chichester and is a nice place (we live about 25 mins away). Independent shops and restaurants. It's on the coast with excellent coastal walks etc.

ClementWeatherToday · 01/06/2023 22:37

Somewhere along the canal like Hunston or Donnington.

Objectrelations · 01/06/2023 22:44

@SleepingisanArt I'm youtubing Emsworth as we speak!!

@ClementWeatherToday those are good suggestions i can see the walls and canal in the OS map. Someone said being south of the main road is an issue though??

Angmering and East Preston are lovely

Wowzel · 01/06/2023 22:49

Lavant and Bosham are nice too.

Gtsr443 · 01/06/2023 22:51

Ferring

Marchintospring · 01/06/2023 22:53

Lavant? Lots of space for dogs, very close to Chi. Right side to avoid the worst of the beach traffic. Don’t underestimate how difficult traffic is in Chi. None of the roads are designed to hold huge numbers of commuters, tourists, agricultural traffic and leisure users like cyclists .

IScreamMonday · 01/06/2023 22:55

Emsworth, Bosham and Fishbourne are all on the train line west of Chichester and lovely. Heading north along the bus lines you could look at Singleton, Cocking and Midhurst. To the east on the train, Arundel is very pretty with nice walks.

mrwalkensir · 01/06/2023 22:57

Have you looked at the Graylingwell area of Chichester? Bosham is a bit too near sea level. If you're looking long term, would be wary of south of the A27

CarpeDiemCarpeDontem · 01/06/2023 23:01

Me, living south of the A27, wondering what’s wrong with it 😅 I don’t really have any recommendations but I moved from Surrey and I much prefer this general area!

CarolNoE · 01/06/2023 23:06

Yes yes yes to Emsworth, even though you are in Hampshire, not West Sussex. I was there yesterday, absolutely glorious. No idea on house prices there but a lovely area. The A27 is a pig around Chichester.
Look at The Billy Trail, starts behind The Spring Arts Centre in Havant and goes down onto Hayling Island. An old steam train track hence the puffing billy name when it collected (can't remember which crops).
If you come for a recce look on FB for Lordington Lavender in July and Sam's Sunflowers (Hayling Island) in August

Objectrelations · 01/06/2023 23:06

@mrwalkensir @CarpeDiemCarpeDontem I'm guessing possible climate change impacts??

No where is horrible per se. There’s a big underclass in most areas but they tend to be the locals so there’s a bit of us and them. Bognor has issues as has Selsey but equally the nice bits are great and close to the sea.
Midhurst, and villages like Harting , Singleton , West Dean , Lavant are close to Hampshire so you have that influence too rather than the coastal influence of Emsworth/ Selsey, Chidham. None are bad, all good for dogs. Just a question of what you prioritise.

Objectrelations · 01/06/2023 23:08

@pcod is all of Angmering and East Preston good for walks?

Your budget will get you something in Chichester - like this:

Or you could try Aldwick, Barnham, Emsworth, Fishbourne?

Objectrelations · 01/06/2023 23:15

@Marchintospring yeah I get the underclass thing - it's like that where I am now - I'm in the underclass!!!

Latent looks really good I stayed in East Lavant on my first scoping trip. Love the look of Midhurst but not sure about getting enough work there.

It's not far. But you have the beach - when tide goes out you can walk for miles. Also the Rife and along the greens ward to East Preston is very lovely for pooches. Bit pricey though. Roads to Chichester are a pain because of the Arundel bit. Easy train from West Worthing station though.

Novium · 01/06/2023 23:21

Also - this one is on the edge of Graylingwell, which has a big dog friendly park and easy access to South Downs footpaths.

Arundel- lovely little historic town. And commutable to Chi by road or train.
