Do you shut bathroom window so neighbours don’t hear?

Not a Troll but feel annoyed by neighbours comment.

It’s been warm, we have most of our windows open, including the bathroom.
Neighbours moved their patio a couple of years ago, so now have a seating area pretty much in line with our bathroom window. I did feel a bit odd one morning the first year, as I sat doing what comes naturally, and heard neighbour scraping the cereal out of their bowl, but figured it was their choice to site the patio there.

Went to the loo earlier -just a wee- I was bursting so it was a bit louder than normal I suppose, when I heard neighbours talking and one said ‘oh great, we get to listen to that again’.

I was ‘WTH?’ Are they expecting us to keep our windows closed so we don’t offend their sensibilities whilst we are using our loo?

So, do any of you close the window so neighbours don’t hear you, or just accept it’s part & parcel of living side by side? In our last house we heard our neighbours when we were in our garden & never gave it a second thought. Are we inappropriately using our bathroom?

Maybe they didn't realise it was a bathroom when they moved the patio?

I was thinking that their patio was right under your window- but given your diagram, it must have been very loud if they can hear a wee through a hedge and across their lawn!!! Don't you have an exhaust fan in there? Do you need the window wide open?

DH sits down to wee, but we've been renovating and had workmen in. OMG- they were so incredibly loud! Like a horse in there! I added more soft furnishings which help dampen the noise somewhat.

INeedAnotherName · 01/06/2023 22:39

I never used to shut mine until last year when my neighbour commented to their friend "yeah, its disgusting isn't it" when I was having a wee. I was mortified Blush. I now shut the window but its a struggle to reach. The window is opposite their back door (and theirs to mine).

fguuh · 01/06/2023 22:40

Having looked at your set up it wouldn't occur to me to close the window. It's really immature to be muttering about hearing someone having a wee too imo.

We don't have neighbours that close but now I'm paranoid they can hear me on the loo.

SpringNotSprung · 01/06/2023 22:44

Oh FFS, is there any need for being so precious. Three/four generations ago you'd have been sharing the carsey in the back ginnel and using a pot or bucket in the night.

Topseyt123 · 01/06/2023 22:46

Just sit there and let off the longest and loudest farts you can muster and then comment about how that is better out than in and you feel so much better for it now. 😉

PinkLazyApple · 01/06/2023 22:47

I always close the window. Our bathroom is to the front and you hear everything!
Open it again after

Don’t change to suit them.

If you hear any more comments shout “omg DH I think those people are listening in again! Do you think they’re perverts?!”

Love this 😅

OnTheBoardwalk · 01/06/2023 22:53

Nope they made the decision to sit under your window

my next door have massive south facing garden but have decided to cramp and sit in tiny north facing garden where my toilet window is

I heard them commenting (I can hear everything as they are right next to my house) on me saying to my cat 'I’m having a wee can I get some peace'. I know proclaim at every opportunity 'I’m having a poo come and join me'

RunningUpThatMill · 01/06/2023 22:54

My bathroom window is constantly on the ajar latch (?) and I wouldn't dream of closing it fully to do anything on the toilet. If it was wide open I would close it slightly but only for my privacy, although I don't think anyone can see in. I've never thought about the noises.

HeyJudeNanananana · 01/06/2023 22:55

Is plop away quite happily. They can eat their breakfast elsewhere, you can hardly go shit in a litter tray or the like.

goodness that’s a very angry aggressive response, for something like this. Or anything on line Really.

op, I assume when they were planning their patio then they never thought they would be able to hear you. Personally if I knew they were out there I would close the window.

Oh dear, your pearls are getting all scrunched up.

Tinkerbyebye · 01/06/2023 22:18

You should have just shouted back, hold on a few minutes Mary and you can rate my farts out of 10

No I don’t close my bathroom window when using it. If neighbours want to sit under it then they can expect noise

😂😂😂

They chose to put their patio there. If they don’t like it they can move it again. You can’t move your bathroom. I wouldn’t close my window - they need to stop eavesdropping!

No, I don't. The bathroom window is open all day, every day here.

Christ don't you get spiders?!

INeedAnotherName · 02/06/2023 12:23

AlfietheSchnauzer · 02/06/2023 03:35

Christ don't you get spiders?!

Perhaps they hear the noise/vibration and think "OMFG what size spider does that?!?" and runs away to live in next doors patio.

Mine has been open 24 /7 for years and I don't get many spiders at all. Most are minute as well. Not looking forward to leaving this house after reading some threads here Confused

Tinybrother · 02/06/2023 14:01

We do get some spiders but I don’t believe they come in through the bathroom window

dizzydizzydizzy · 02/06/2023 14:36

It would never have occurred to me to worry about the neighbours hearing. If they don't like it, they shouldn't have put their patio under your window.

xogossipgirlxo · 02/06/2023 14:45

I don't keep mine wide open, more like slightly open, so I don't think neighbours would hear me. Their comment was odd anyway.

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 03/06/2023 02:56

BungleandGeorge · 01/06/2023 22:28

Yea I’d shut the window. Just the same as I’d close the door so that people inside the house didn’t have to listen!

Exactly!

All of these commenters saying they'd proudly amplify their bodily functions noises, have you no dignity?

JandalsAlways · 03/06/2023 04:08

Oh gosh yes! I would be horrified. Its also quite gross tbh OP. I'm grateful to not be living in a situation like this.

MrsMikeDrop · 03/06/2023 04:17

The wonderful world of MN, where people won't open a door to anyone but will happily let them listen to them shit 🤣

LBFseBrom · 03/06/2023 04:25

drpet49 · 01/06/2023 20:00

This. How utterly bizarre.

I thought the same, can't imagine it. I hear virtually nothing from neighbours on either side, neither do they hear me. Sometimes I can hear a bit of laughter if they are sitting in the garden in good weather but no more than that. I live in a semi and my bathroom plus the downstairs loo are on the side which is not attached to a house, the other side is but our bathrooms face outwards to the side, plus we have the garage which adds more distance, then a fence.

It sounds a weird set up but your neighbours are rude if they make comments about you doing perfectly normal things in your own home. I can't imagine kids being bothered to close the window before using the loo., even if you do. Your neighbours surely don't have to sit so close to your house anyway.

LordSalem · 03/06/2023 04:50

I can hear Mr next door peeing from downstairs in our terraced house.'
Their bathroom (a thin wall apart from mine) is where they all congregate to have loud conversations. Great when you've got a gippy tummy. It gives me the rage when I’m in the throes of gut pain and I have to run the bathroom tap to bc drown it out.

Tallcurves · 03/06/2023 04:52

@WeAllDoIt

get a fart machine or a recording of someone having a toilet nightmare and play it.

then go see them later that day an apologise for your friend and see what they say
