How many holidays do you go on with your dc?

Maybe 2-3 actual holidays per year, as in at least a weekend and not in our local area. Usually one of those is 5-7 days at the beach and then somewhere else, sometimes to Wales to see family (stay in holiday cottage and it’s more holiday than visiting), or beach/camping somewhere else. We go wild camping at least once a month for a night or two in the summer but that’s usually within a 15 minute drive of home (sometimes we even walk there from home), so wouldn’t really class that as a holiday. We don’t really do foreign holidays as a family as it’s a faff, but I do occasionally take one dc abroad for a trip, not since before COVID though.

Ours varies each year

I've struggled financially since becoming a lone parent so have only managed 1 up break a year up until now. I'm in a much better position now so I'm doing 2x UK weekend breaks and a week abroad. Going to try and do this every year. Hoping to add in camping trips next year too!

34and3 · 01/06/2023 16:24

2-3 abroad and occasionally a UK weekend

FrownedUpon · 01/06/2023 16:26

Usually about 4 a year. 2 abroad & 2 in the UK.

SummerSimmer · 01/06/2023 16:29

I’ve stopped taking mine now but it used to be two foreign big holiday, then maybe a Centre Parks type of break and a short Uk hotel stay a couple of times a year.

Beezknees · 01/06/2023 16:52

He doesn't want to go any more as it's just me and him and it's "boring" (15 year old) but when he was little we went to Butlins once a year and a foreign holiday once a year.

LotsOfBalloons · 01/06/2023 16:54

Once a year usually. Sometimes an extra 3 day break as well but can't afford multiple holidays.

Multipleexclamationmarks · 01/06/2023 17:00

Varies each year. This year..
1 holiday abroad (all of us)
1 camping trip (me + dc)
1 short break to London (all of us)

Then I have 2 nights away booked with 1 dc for a shared interest so I'll do 1 or 2 nights away with other dc to even it up.

5childrenand · 01/06/2023 17:02

A ‘big’ ie 2-3 week holiday in the summer, usually abroad (European villa type thing), then another week probably U.K. and around 5-6 weekends U.K. / easy travel within Europe. We love to travel and visit new places!

Haven’t done long haul since the dc were born as prefer to spread the budget over a few trips but they are both complaining about not visiting other continents yet so we are looking to do Asia & US next year.

colouroftherainbow · 01/06/2023 17:03

1-2 abroad plus another 1-2 in UK (one of which is often camping)

Hoppinggreen · 01/06/2023 17:06

All of them.
They still seem to want to come, which is fine by us

Blackisthecolour · 01/06/2023 17:06

As many as I can. I didn't go abroad my whole childhood because my parents didn't 'have a pot to piss in' in Northern parlance so now I'm trying to make up for it.

We try and go skiing in Feb, somewhere warm in May, Cornwall or Greece in summer and long haul in autumn, I'd go more if DH would let me but he has some misplaced working class guilt about the amount we spend on holidays so that's my limit.

YouNeverCanTellWithBees · 01/06/2023 17:08

2 uk holidays a year usually.

Impressed by those doing multiple holidays abroad plus UK holidays. I love a holiday!

Stinkymalinkyfromdownthelane · 01/06/2023 17:16

This year its 3 uk city weekend breaks and one week uk in august. We haven't been in holiday for a while so are looking forward to them all!

dinmin · 01/06/2023 17:19

Assuming most posters are employed, how do you manage all these with annual leave? Do you spend literally every annual leave day away on holiday (and not use any for general childcare, errands, appointments etc)?

BlackeyedSusan · 01/06/2023 17:24

One holiday a year, rented UK holiday cottage. Bloody expensive because of the kids disabilities but pleased to be able to go for two weeks.

ThreeRingCircus · 01/06/2023 17:24

Normally it's either 2 UK holidays or 1 foreign holiday a year.

Then a couple of weekends visiting my parents....normally once in the Summer hols and at Christmas (in the UK but a fair drive away).

gogohmm · 01/06/2023 17:27

One main plus 1-2 short, sometimes abroad. Kids adults now, they are NOT invited

theblackradiator · 01/06/2023 17:28

wow I thought people were meant to be struggling to eat these days and in a cost of living crisis can't believe how people are affording all these holidays.

That's what I was thinking too. I can't even afford a weekend away since my child 4 years ago. I haven't been on holiday for 6 years so haven't taken him at all.

Biscuitandacuppa · 01/06/2023 17:31

Just got back from 4 nights camping in mid wales and have a week camping in Northumberland booked for august.

If finances allow we might go to Harry Potter world in October but it’s more likely to be next year.

BHRK · 01/06/2023 17:31

2 foreign holidays plus a few weekend breaks in the UK. It’s a priority for us but we also know how lucky we are

reluctantbrit · 01/06/2023 17:33

One large Summer one and a short trip, city break or similar.

Also, one trip abroad to see the grandparents but that's definitely not a holiday, regardless how much I like the family.

Allthegoodusernamesareused · 01/06/2023 17:35

Most years, we do one longer family holiday (usually UK but sometimes abroad) plus I separately have a couple of 4 or 5 night breaks with DC and friends. This year, I've done a weekend away with oldest DC, a 4 night holiday park break with youngest DC and friends, will be having a week camping with both DC and friends in July and then our week in a cottage in Cornwall in August.

I save hard for these holidays and forgo luxuries to have them, but I never had a holiday at all as a child and so I like to be able to do this for my DC.
