My electric bill is £488.25

For the quarter.
For context, there are three of us living here
I never use the tumbler
I do not iron
The only electrical appliance I use apart from the usual stuff (washer/fridge tv) is a water distiller.

The shower is not electric.
Does this bill seem extortionate to you ?

Mine was similar.

GiveupHQ · 31/05/2023 07:58

Seems fine to me for a winter/spring quarter

GrazingSheep · 31/05/2023 07:59

How many units of electricity have you used? And what is the cost per unit?

Actually if that's a quarter, that's not bad at all. Mines about £450 for gas and electric per month.

Caspianberg · 31/05/2023 08:00

Seems normal. That’s a quarter, 3 months use. Many people are paying several hundred per month

willowstar · 31/05/2023 08:01

We are £700 a month.

YouNews · 31/05/2023 08:01

How does it compare with the bill from this time last year in terms of cost and usage?

Azealeasinbloom · 31/05/2023 08:01

That’s not bad. We are all electric, dual meters, living in the Highlands, £350 a month in winter.

Thankfully the heating is finally off !

Chasingsquirrels · 31/05/2023 08:02

For 3m that seems in line / slightly higher than mine (4 bed bouse, ave 2.2 adults, no gas, oil boiler heating and hot water inc showers, everything else electric).

mogtheexcellent · 31/05/2023 08:03

Its a bit lower than ours which is also quarterly. We are an all electric house and we dont have heating on as have wood burner if needed.

peacelemon · 31/05/2023 08:03

That seems good for a quarter tbh

Softoprider · 31/05/2023 08:04

Thank you. This is what I thought. My partner pays the bill. He insists it is bad and that people at work do not have bills like this. He blames the distiller because he thinks it is nonsense.

I'm guessing it's an electric oven too

Right.. but if it was his razor or PlayStation I'm sure that would be fine..

Softoprider · 31/05/2023 08:05

It is an electric oven but I have a Ninja

Just checked and our March to end of May is £275. Same criteria as you except I have been using the tumble dryer when too wet to dry outside.

GiveupHQ · 31/05/2023 08:09

In terms of usage how does it compare to last year same quarter?

peacelemon · 31/05/2023 08:09

I'm going to ring him and give him hell !

I mean I wouldn't give him hell. Perhaps suggest a smart meter.

CrepuscularCritter · 31/05/2023 08:21

We use about £60 a month here for electricity. Electric oven, very occasional tumble dry, dishwasher twice a week, iron once in a blue moon... Two of us. Occasionally crumpled.

toastfiend · 31/05/2023 08:28

About the same as mine. We pay about £150 a month for electric, on average. I work from home f/t, DH works from home 2 days a week, electric oven. It certainly feels high when I think that until our fix ended last year we were paying £70 a month for gas and electric combined, albeit in a smaller house, but that's the world we're living in atm. I wouldn't say it was extraordinary in the current climate.

Redlorryyellowlorryblue · 31/05/2023 08:29

That seems about right for a quarter. Received a letter yesterday saying our gas and electric will be going up to £475 a month!

Allthings · 31/05/2023 08:31

If you don’t use electric for heating, that bill is on the high side. Our electric bill is around £100 a month or 250 kwh including the use of a vented tumble drier a couple of times a week.

If you have used electric heating it doesn’t seem too high. But given numerous price changes you need to be comparing kwh and not price.

MrsMorrisey · 31/05/2023 08:31

That works out to be about $800 AUD and that is what ours is now.
It's happening everywhere.
Sucks hey?

Reallybadidea · 31/05/2023 08:32

I think that's quite high tbh. We're adults and we used probably about £100 less over that period with daily dishwasher use, occasional tumble dryer and iron use etc. What's the wattage of your water distiller and how many hours a day is it on?
