Who does the packin* for your holidays?

Dh and I pack our own bags. No kids. I do have to endure the clothes parade first while he decides which of the 5 identical navy blue polos he is taking,

it seems thought that other people pack for their partners……

@DoraSpenlow

Why does that matter?

Not your clothes

SoupDragon · 31/05/2023 16:27

No DH but my DC (adult/teen) bring their clothes down to the living room and I do the actual packing so that each case has a full spread of clothing in. If any case goes missing no one is in trouble! They've done this since they were young (it meant I could also see whether they'd packed enough of each item).

Because I would rather not be sitting in a nice restaurant with someone who looks like a tramp.

ToK1 · 31/05/2023 16:28

@DoraSpenlow

So tellyour dh to pack his own clothes properly

I'm sure he's capable

xogossipgirlxo · 31/05/2023 16:29

I pack them, he lays out what he wants to take with him, but I do the folding. Husband zips suitcases, because they need proper squeeze thanks to me taking 70% of the space😂

He doesn't care what he looks like. I have standards. It takes about 15 minutes.

ToK1 · 31/05/2023 16:36

@DoraSpenlow

If he doesn't care I dont get why you do.

You're not his mum

STLLAP08 · 31/05/2023 16:57

What's a holiday again?!Grin

CrumbliestCrumble · 31/05/2023 18:41

I pack all. Because if someone forgot something it sends me crazy, even though its not my item forgotten.
So i pack for all 6 of us.

But if i didnt want to the eldest and fh would do their own.

Im just stupidly organised and have a list going for weeks of things to remember.

So far I've never forgotten anything.

We’re both 54.

My sister and I also like to coordinate our outfits when we go out, and we coordinate our mother if she’s with us.

@sausage767 thanks for your reply 😊I suppose it would be a dull world if we were all the same!

Did your mother put you in matching outfits when you were little girls?

CloudlessSunnyDays · 01/06/2023 06:45

MorrisZapp · 31/05/2023 08:40

I once had a drink with a man whose MOTHER packed his bag for business trips.

'she knows what I'll need better than I do' he said.

Also he was wearing one of those t shirts with wolves howling on it.

@MorrisZapp he's lucky you stayed to finish your drink!

Smartiepants79 · 31/05/2023 08:43

I pack me, I help the kids pack themselves.
DH does his own. How would I know what he wants to take?

That'll save on tickets, but your DH must have to pay excess baggage!

catin8oots · 01/06/2023 06:51

One good thing about XH was he was the world's best packer and enjoyed it! I would just chuck all mine and the kids' things on our bed then arrive at destination with everything beautifully folded/rolled and organised

Dooopylally · 01/06/2023 06:55

I've had dh arrive in a hot country with jumpers, and had to go out looking with him for T-shirts on the first day of the holidays. I've have had dh arrive for a two week holiday in the underwear he wore on the day, and a trip to a French hyper market ensued.
The time taken to double check his packing (he lays it out but I count the fecking pants) is less than the time wasted on holiday looking for stuff.
(There is ADHD in the family so I probably accept doing more organising than I would otherwise).

Okbyethen · 01/06/2023 07:11

I do my kids (under 10) and husband's packing. I do my husband's purely because he works a very demanding job full time and I work part time so I pack everything on my days off when everyones out of the house - makes sense really 🤷🏻‍♀️

BG2015 · 01/06/2023 07:19

We both put everything on the bed or rail in the spare room that we're taking. He takes about 8 white t shirts 🤷‍♀️ that are different. Then we sort of do it together.

I buy all the toiletries and suncream etc and get together towels and other stuff we need.

I LOVE preparing and packing for holidays, it's one of my pleasures in life. It's part of the build up to the holiday for me.

Yes she did!! And we had outfits that coordinated with hers, not all the time, but for special occasions. I have a favourite photo where she is wearing a raspberry pink trouser suit with a white blouse, and we are both wearing raspberry pinafores with white blouses. She used to sew a lot of our clothes when we were small so she'd use the same fabric for something for us when she'd made something for herself.

It's contagious, my best friend came over last night and we were (coincidentally) both wearing very similar outfits. We buy each other clothes sometimes - if I find a great jumper etc, I'll buy her one in a different colourway.

DarkForces · 01/06/2023 08:03

Everyone packs their own. Although dd decided that it was going to be sunny up north this week and so I've had to buy her some leggings and a jumper 🙄

Deathraystare · 01/06/2023 09:04

I wish someone packed for me!!! I had too many clothes, not enough incontinence pads and pants and s single tape cassette in on of the 5 yes 5! Make up bags I packed. Why when I was using the same make up all week??!!

Scottishskifun · 01/06/2023 09:09

I used to do the physical packing before kids but DH would lay his stuff out (mainly because I'm better at it and he never thinks to put a change and swim stuff into hand luggage when we have had cases go missing on 3 separate holidays!)
Since kids we both pack together as we split everyone's clothes up into cases (again incase 1 goes missing). He did used to pack DS1 clothes but after a expensive mistake of then not packing it into the car we do it all together!

Camping trips I pack for me and dc. Dh does the equipment and his clothes.. Jointly do food list and shop...
Am intrigued what all these posters pack for ddoggy holidays! Sometimes we take ddogs. They have foldable bowls. A beach tent and beach towels.
Here modelling her 2021 beach outfit....

Beautiful dogs!
I pack ddogs pj's 😂 shes a greyhound and gets cold in our campervan so has a onesie! Then bed, bowls, ball, towel and waterproof coat.

Thesunwillcomeoutverysoon · 01/06/2023 09:22

I remember my friend telling me years ago about her packing.. She managed to get sorted at short notice for a trip to Spain by coach. Surprise from her dm. Packed for 4 small dc, her and her dh. Dm meeting them at the coach stop.. Dm assured her she would bring the food for the journey. Great, less to plan for the 7 of them. Friend arrived surrounded by baggage. Dm turned up wearing a fur coat and foil wrapped cheese toasties...

Thesunwillcomeoutverysoon · 01/06/2023 10:10

Ddogs also have pj's..

Who does the packin* for your holidays?
brunettemic · 01/06/2023 10:13

I pack for me and the DC, DH does his own. To be fair, he’d do the DC too but he’s happy to leave it to the night before and I can’t cope with that.

mondaytosunday · 01/06/2023 12:49

Never packed for my husband. My mother used to pack for my Dad though. Forgot his suit jacket once and he was giving a lecture as a gust and then a guest of honour at a dinner - have to say he was so calm about it even though it was a disaster and they had to rush out and buy one and they were nowhere near shops. He didn't give my mother a hard time at all, he just took it in his stride. I'll always remember that.
