Big big problem. Mother of the bride and someone else has same outfit.

DD gets married for the second time next weekend it a very casual affair.
I purchased a lovely dress from Roman. DD didn't want anyone to spend a lot of money on outfits.
Today went to see my younger brother and his girlfriend was showing me her outfit.
It's exactly the same as mine but in a different colour.
Mine is black and ivory.
Hers black and lemon.
What should I do. I suppose it's my fault in just getting a dress from a popular store and not specifically for a wedding.
Should I still wear the black and ivory.
Fortunately I do have a lovely dress not been worn yet.

Many years ago my Mum wore a green skirt suit from Jacques Vert to my wedding. All 3 of my husbands aunts wore the same Jacques Vert skirt suit in different colours - so we had all 4 of the available colours at our wedding. We, and they, thought it was hilarious and the men said if they'd known they would have asked for a bulk buy discount! So wear what you like and enjoy the wedding.

Didn't you tell her when she showed you?

It could be worse - when my son got married I saw a lovely blue and white dress in a local dept store i was so tempted but they didn’t have it in my size so chose another dress from the factory outlet. So glad my size was out of stock as I saw the adult bridesmaids walking up the aisle!

If it is that dress a pp linked, then I'd say the white & black one is wayyyy too white to be wearing to a wedding and that mesh panel at the top looks a tad cheap 😬
Just my honest opinion 🙏

This thread is weird, like so many wedding related ones. Are people really so Hyacinth Bucket in the 21st century?

1.It’s really not a big deal if someone wears the same dress. I actively like it if it happens to me. It immediately gives you a connection to someone. If the colours are different it’s even less of an issue.
2.I don’t understand why OP didn’t just mention that the dress was the same when she found out. The whole ‘problem’ could have been sorted out straightaway.
3.If OP also has another dress that she could wear then this really is a non issue.
4.What would possibly be wrong with wearing ivory and black to a wedding? I used to work at special occasion events in London, including weddings. I can tell you at really big dos like this there is no such petty concern about invented rules about etiquette.

Big big problem would be someone wearing the same dress as the bride

I was at a wedding once where that happened! Low key second marriage of an older woman, clearly the bride had just chosen a nice dress from a shop, not white or obviously bridal - guest wearing exactly the same dress, same colour, probably even the same size.

It was a small register office wedding, only about 20 people, so no escaping it. No one said anything; we collectively decided not to notice it.

I’m amused by the fact that people are still bothering to comment on this post.
This is a long way away from being a ‘big, big problem’ - I do wonder what sort of world some people live in!
