Here... 😔
She was such a hard working reporter especially during Covid. She was my go to person to listen to what was going on.
45 is no age.. Her poor family... 😔 😔 😔

I don't watch ITV News for no particular reason so had never heard of Emily Morgan, but it is always a tragedy when someone's life is cut short like this.

@RPA900 Sometimes cancer just happens. Plus a lot of people were exposed to passive smoking while working in pubs and bars, perhaps she did this while she was a student? Or there's exposure to radon gas, which is in everyone's homes to some degree and the second most common cause of lung cancer after smoking and is thought to be responsible for 3 deaths a week.

BarbaraofSeville · 28/05/2023 05:58

Sorry, that's 3% of lung cancer deaths, or about 20 people a week in the UK.

hattie43 · 28/05/2023 06:26

This really shocked me , I remember her on ITV . So young and her poor family . I read she was recently diagnosed so it took her very quickly . RIP

Fraaahnces · 28/05/2023 06:28

@Speermint - I think you need to know that most cases of lung cancer in young people have absolutely fuck all to do with smoking. That was a stupid and heartless thing to write.

@Speermint you need to educate yourself. Gross.

Matt9276 · 28/05/2023 07:07

Of course its in the public interest to know if she smoked. It would be a cautionary tale, as another were needed.

Finding out the facts doesnt diminish and sense of sorrow people have about her death.

We dont need greif nazi's policing a reasonable conversation.

Chocolateteabag · 28/05/2023 07:12

@Speermint - you can get lung cancer as a non smoker

Such a naive and thoughtless comment to make!

We've removed this post as it isn't in the spirit of the site.

Good God; should we all be told if a public figure's breast cancer is caused by too much alcohol, or their bowel cancer by too few vegetables and too much white bread? How cruel your thoughts are.

Mummytolittleones92 · 28/05/2023 07:26

I always wonder how miserable and lacking some posters lives must be, when they cannot even empathise after a young person has died. To immediately jump to conclusions, play the blame game, and write nonsense that carries the undertone of ‘they deserved it because of x y z’ suggests a bitterness and a sadness in their own lives.

Or something? What are you on about do you not know how to engage your brain before you type 🤔

DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy · 28/05/2023 07:33

A cautionary tale. As if. 'Oh dear that nice young lady off the news has died. I really ought to quit now. ' Said nobody ever.
Doctors drink and smoke. So do nurses. No doubt there are dentists that don't look after their teeth and accountants whose own finances are a mess. You're talking nonsense.
My mum died a long, painful and heartbreaking death from lung cancer. She ate organic veg only. She played bowls and badminton. She never smoked a cigarette in her life.
So no. It's not a cautionary tale at all. The poor young woman may have just had terrible bad luck.

Sad that this thread has been Co-opted by heartless morons.
I knew people thought this way but you rarely hear them expressing their anti-science judgements on victims of cancer. Shameful shit.

Fizbosshoes · 28/05/2023 07:43

That is a real shock and must be heartbreaking for her family, friends and colleagues.

I can't understand the reaction from a select few. Reading about someone who died aged 45, instead of thing how sad, that is very young to die, their poor family, you think I wonder if they did something to deserve it!! Wtf is wrong with you!!

CosyCoffee · 28/05/2023 07:46

@RPA900 that link does not prove what you think it does. There is no mention of the causes of lung cancer in younger people.

This article however does mention cases in younger adults, and the majority are non smokers.

People are posting like this because they're afraid something similar could happen to them - perhaps they're a similar age - and they want to reassure themselves that it won't. It's not just cuntiness for the sake of cuntiness, it's cuntiness out of fear. Still cuntiness though, and still entirely appropriate on a thread like this. The poor woman. An utter tragedy.

ShoesoftheWorld · 28/05/2023 07:58

Shit! *Entirely INappropriate. Obviously.

Clementineorsatsuma · 28/05/2023 07:59

@RPA900

Self inflicted?

Shame on you. Shame.

Actually it seems as though this thread is populated by quite a lot of foul-mouthed people who curse a lot and call other people "morons" because they disagree or because they simple do not read very carefully what is written. Or is the pro-tobacco lobby angry about something??

Thank you for your measured response. You are not wrong. However the bare fact remains: "Lung cancer is usually associated with smoking. In fact—roughly 85% of cases and 90% of lung cancer deaths can be directly attributed to cigarette smoke." from your quoted article.
I am not saying it is impossible. I am talking about the balance of probabilities.

LadyKenya · 28/05/2023 08:53

Some of the responses on this thread are just a prime example of some of the unpleasantness that permeates MN. I despair of human behaviour sometimes. May she rest in peace.

What is your mission in this I mean you could have scrolled by ,but didn't .you could have said that's sad bit didn't. All you did was comment that this woman's death was self-inflicted ,why do you think that's OK? Would you say thaat to her family or anybody In real life who had died .from a "self inflicted" illness?
