Dull request for washing machine recommendations

AlanJohnsonsBeemer · 27/05/2023 13:10

My washing machine just spewed out a load of smoke. Can anyone recommend a 9 Kilo machine they are very pleased with (up to about £500)? A long warranty is a bonus.

My current one had a 1600 spin speed which seems hard to fine now, so assume we will have to go for a 1400 this time.

I can spend more if I need to for something that will last forever, but I also feel that even more expensive appliances seem crap for longevity now. My ancient Bosch dishwasher is a teenager but my mums newest one only lasted a few years.

Thanks in advance

I would be inclined to say bust the budget and go for Miele.

We have had ours for twenty three years, ditto the tumble dryer, nearly broke us financially at the time but have more than paid for themselves.

Thanks, I will have a hunt about to try and find out if Miele are guilty of quality drop for the newer models. I really don’t want want to keep replacing, but don’t want to waste money on something that will still break either. Could do one of £750ish entry level models, but not the sexy £1,300 ones unfortunately.

I have an LG 10.5kg direct drive and it's fabulous. Can't fault it at all. Around £460. My sister has the same older model and it's lasted 10 years

billy1966 · 27/05/2023 13:27

My Siemens one went after 21 years of fantastic washing.

The seal went, the machine was still going strong.

I replaced it will a Samsung 9kilo load, very happy with it.

Malbab · 27/05/2023 13:32

We have LG 10 kg from John Lewis had it only for 8 months though, cost about 550 but has extended free warranty for 3 years

Speckson · 27/05/2023 13:37

I have an LG direct drive too. It's several years old and works well.

MrsWidgerysLodger · 27/05/2023 13:40

We have a Samsung that's seen is through two house moves and one very mucky child. Still going strong!

Nat6999 · 27/05/2023 13:42

My mum has just had a new Bosch 9kg washer, think it was £500, has everything including a 15 minute speed wash but is classed as a fairly basic machine, no I-dos or connectivity to Bluetooth, she is very satisfied with it.

Nat6999 · 27/05/2023 13:44

I think it has a 2 year warranty but you can pay to extend it to 5 years.

Our Siemens also lasted 20+ years. Replaced it with a Bosch, which is crap.

I can't remember how many Kg you can put in a Miele, but keep lookout for what they have for sale in their outlet centre.

www.miele.co.uk/c/miele-outlet-abingdon-1409.htm

Some have been used as demo models for their sales staff, others for training for their engineers. We're on our second Miele (prob about 5 years old) in 30 years.

Our oven really wasn't great, though, but appears to have run out of faulty electrics now it is 16 years old.

Thanks for the tip!

I missed all of the other replies above! Thank you will check out the recommendations and know some to avoid. I was looking at LG and Bosch before someone turned my head Miele wise.

Samsung eco bubble

My Siemens was bought in 2005 after looking in the Which magazines in the local library - it was £550 then but money well spent on reflection - it’s still going strong - looks as good as new 1600 spin speed - never had a single problem with it.

Nugg · 27/05/2023 14:23

Samsung eco bubble here too 9kg model. Must be 5-6 years old and never fails

billy1966 · 27/05/2023 16:53

Samsung WW8kg actually.

Was highly recommended by a friend.

B rating. 1400 spin

54 minute mixed load which does a super wash.

Has a 15 minute wash which is very handy for stuff you occasionally soak or a match jersy that was worn briefly and is needed for tomorrow.

Really very happy with it.

Love short washes.

billy1966 · 27/05/2023 16:54

Mine was Which? recommended too😉

All I can say is, avoid anything with a 'spin speed limiter' like the plague. My AEG Lavamat 7000 has one and it is basically Satan. Washing machine works fine for an ordinary wash, but try putting in a big soft toy or a pillow or two (imagine you find out a friend of your child's has ringworm and they've just been for a sleepover and you go into a washing frenzy!) and then because the drum isn't perfectly balanced this grrrrr spin speed limiter stops the machine spinning them dry and they come out of the machine sopping wet. I've just had to wet 3 clean towels to add to the wash to try to balance it out - because extra washing is just what I want right now - and I've had to come away from the machine while I hope the spin cycle now kicks in because otherwise I'm just standing in front of it and swearing. Off to check it now - wish me luck, because if it hasn't worked I may EXPLODE!!!

PinkPlantCase · 04/08/2023 16:03

We bought a basic Miele around 4 years ago. We have battered with with 2 years worth of re-usable nappies but I’m not particularly impressed.

DC is out of nappies now but by the end the machine wasn’t getting them clean anymore. Think it’s on its last legs. I the warranty was only about 2 years so that’s no use.

I expected better and probably wouldn’t get another Miele.

It might be that with normal use they work fine for ages but as I said I expected better.

whirlyhead · 04/08/2023 16:10

My appliance guy, who usually loves Mieles, told me their quality has really deteriorated in the last 5 or so years so not to bother buying another.

He recommended a Haier model, and I now have a 10-kilo capacity one which I'm happy with. It's A star rated and has a ton of programmes - it's also very black and wouldn't look out of place on the Death Star! I think it was £550 but that included removing the defunct 20-year-old Miele (RIP beloved Miele)

Duchessofspace · 04/08/2023 16:14

Samsung eco bubbles thing - was recommended to me 5 years ago it’s absolutely fabulous I love the 15 minute wash

I believe they pretty much all have such a system these days.

Washing Machine Won't Spin One Item | Whitegoodshelp

Many people are having issues with new washing machines that won't spin one item or some small loads. This is not necessarily due to a fault..

NoHunGosh · 04/08/2023 18:35

Have had an LG 10kg beauty for 5ish years now. Love it. Never had a single issue with it and generally use the 'Turbo wash' function so doesn't take hours. Highly recommend.
