Nosebleed during meeting

Are there people out there who just get random nosebleeds for no apparent reason? If a London professional had to excuse themselves from a meeting because of a nosebleed would you think anything of it?

I get them every now and then - I’ve never turned off the camera so quickly when it happened on a Teams call!

I had a few jokes from the team about snorting too much ❄️ but it was all in jest. Don’t worry too much about it, I’m sure everyone in the room has had one before

Why would I think anything negative, alternative is they sit there bleeding lol

My daughter gets lots of nosebleeds especially during winter when the air is dry so she has gotten into the habit of using nasal sprays or Vaseline in her nose every morning and night before bed which prevents the nosebleeds. Might help.

TrashyPanda · 24/05/2023 09:48

I’d think, “oh dear, they’ve got a nosebleed”

regardless of where they were from.

TallulahBetty · 24/05/2023 09:51

I'd give my opinion but I am not from London, so I'd be speaking out of turn.

FrostyFifi · 24/05/2023 09:52

Why would anyone think anything other than "oh dear, that person is having a nosebleed"? What has their profession got to do with it?

midgemadgemodge · 24/05/2023 09:52

Yes there are people who get random nose bleeds

If it happens frequently they can get the offending vein zapped

It's probably best they leave the meeting to deal with it rather than leaking all over the furniture

SallyWD · 24/05/2023 09:53

I wouldn't think anything of it if someone had to excuse themselves because of a nosebleed (apart from mild concern).

BellatrixLestrangesHeatedCurlers · 24/05/2023 10:59

Wow I would never ever have attitributed a nosebleed to anything except... it being a nosebleed. The coke angle has stunned me a bit hahaha.

I've suffered with random nosebleeds my whole life. I usually get them if I'm stressed or tired, or sometimes just because it's hot out. I was leading a meeting yesterday with people I'd not worked with before and I suppose I was worried that thet would jumped to conclusions that it was coke related. I didn't make a fuss or anything and just politely excused myself for a minute and then continued the meeting without another hitch.

Would never in a million years occur to me that it was coke. I’m a Lancastrian professional though so am more used to seeing flat cap or whippet related stuff.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 24/05/2023 11:18

We don’t have professionals in Sheffield. So no one has nose bleeds

midgemadgemodge · 24/05/2023 11:22

Perhaps coke is big in london ) prefer Pepsi myself

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 24/05/2023 11:28

My husband gets really bad nosebleeds.

I left him and our son in the car while I ran into the shop. Got a text saying he needed help. I went back out to him and he had a travel mug under his nose full of blood. My travel mug! It wasn't pleasant.

WhiskersPete · 24/05/2023 11:37

London professional 😂

NancyJoan · 24/05/2023 11:40

My DD gets them during hay fever season, which is unfortunately also exam season. Not nice for her, or the person marking her GCSEs.

SmileyClare · 24/05/2023 11:47

I was worried they would jump to conclusions it was coke related

Was it? 😂 There are usually other signs of heavy coke use in a colleague so I doubt they would assume that without other evidence.

I feel sympathetic- it’s embarrassing to have happened but don’t torture yourself.

See a doctor if they are frequent.

SmileyClare · 24/05/2023 11:55

What is your profession?

If it’s anything like the marketing field I used to work in then cocaine use was rife.
Other coke users at that meeting probably felt very understanding and just glad it wasn’t them.

TwoShades1 · 24/05/2023 12:21

I doubt they will have thought about it at all. Maybe if it was happening all the time and was really disruptive they might get a bit annoyed, but there isnt anything you can really do about it. Just out of interest someone I know does a lot of coke and never gets nose bleeds.

SmileyClare · 24/05/2023 12:40

Cocaine can cause a nose bleed but it’s not particularly common.

Heavy use can inflame the nose tissue and cause bleeds. The tissue can erode in severe cases (perforated septum) resulting in symptoms such as running nose, infection, crusting around nostrils, pus, nasally tone to the voice, difficulty breathing and occasional bleeds.

I can spot a heavy coke user a mile off just by the nasally tone of their voice and the nasal drip.

Frequent heavy nose bleeds (non coke damage related) can be treated by cauterising the offending vein in hospital.

Veryfishy · 24/05/2023 12:43

Geordie here, also contractually obligated

Yorkshire professional here, never mind bodily fluids, we have to keep the ferrets up our trouser leg quiet in meetings, they HATE PowerPoint..

I have infrequent but violent nosebleeds, don't care what anyone thinks about them.

Scottish professional here, what's it been caused by? Not unexpected to be caused by the 'Glasgow Kiss' in our meetings when things go a bit awry..

Geordie01 · 24/05/2023 12:50

London professional = Big 4 Cuntsultant / Master PowerPoint creator
