Alternative to crisps

I've fallen into a terrible habit of eating packets of crisps of an evening when dd has gone to bed (single, exhausted, overworked, under paid, middle aged - please don't judge me!) but I've finally decided to sort my life out and I am looking for suggestions for something else that I can snack on in the evening that isn't going to add to the ever expanding tummy...

Any suggestions?

Herbal teas - I am having these at the moment as I have a cold but I still want something sweet - I have had some vegan jelly sweets oops!

@msssm I used to do the same with a bag of Spinach! Could munch them like crisps! Until the oxalates crystallised or whatever it is and you get that horrible feeling on your teeth?! (If you know you know!)

What about using iceberg lettuce as wraps? I go through phases of doing this and it's surprisingly satisfying!

Rice crackers

Pop your own popcorn in a pan. Not fat needed. Sprinkle with salt and paprika. It's delicious, more nutritious than crisps and much lower calorie.

You could also cut up sticks of carrot and cucumber and sliced radishes if you want something crunchy. Or celery if you crave salt and like the taste of it.

I like those roasted salted sunflower seeds that you can get in Greek/Turkish/ME food shops. The sort still with the shells on. After nibbling my way through a few of those, I find that my craving for something savoury salty dissipates.

Have crisps at the weekend: plain it,
buy your favourites, look forward to eating them and enjoy.

Just reprogram that they are a weekly treat, you don't have to give them up and be miserable.

I always find that "healthy alternatives" taste worse than not having anything at all.

Cup of hot Miso, satisfies the salt/umami flavour craving but nowhere near so many calories, satisfyingly comforting so ticks that box, but also hydrating which means you will sleep better.

You need these (they also do wasabi flavour which burns my mouth but is very moreish.

@moggerhanger

I absolutely destroy my tongue when I eat them as I love the really salty ones and I can't stop until I've had far too many and my tongue is shredded. Oops.

Frozen grapes! It's quite satisfying as they have some bite but also some sweetness but as they are frozen they keep you busy and take a while to eat so you don't eat as many

Oh I like this idea! Great boredom snack for me when working from home

moggerhanger · 23/05/2023 22:58

@Wavescrashingonthebeach I dehydrate myself so badly with them! Wake up in the night desperate for water. Worth it though!

Chewing gum and take up knitting to keep your hands busy

DreamItDoIt · 23/05/2023 23:05

Edamame in their shells with salt, yum,

How about going to bed and reading a book to take your mind off eating?
