I want to go in the school holidays. Taking DD 15
I want to see Beatles related stuff ( will I need to prebook?), Albert Dock ( dont suppose the weather map is still there?).

We will stay somewhere like. Travelodge or a Premiere Inn ( for the breakfast) for about 3 nights

What hidden gems are there?

We might then go on to Morecambe for a night or two.

Thank you

Go to Anfield. It's really interesting and the people are lovely.

User135644 · 23/05/2023 13:14

The city centre is relatively big with tons to do.

Just outside the centre Lark Lane area and Sefton Park just by it is really nice. Plenty of city wide Beatles bus tours and Beatles related museums/stuff around the centre. If you go to the Cavern Club on Mathew Street, there's always Beatles bands on during the weekend but you'd have to pre-book for that. Anfield stadium tour.

If you hop on the Merseyrail from Central you can get to New Brighton or West Kirkby in 20-30 mins on the Wirral line or Crosby/Formby/Southport on the Southport line which is all good coastline if the weather is nice.

RedDoughnut · 23/05/2023 13:15

Thanks. No interest in football at all.

Apart from Ted Lasso, and a lot of that I don't understand!

Anfield is an absolute dump! Don't go there, OP.

Hidden gems - Childwall Woods, Princes Road synagogue guided tour, Williamson Tunnels.

Don't be daft

ElizaCBennett · 23/05/2023 13:44

Someone I know used their Tesco vouchers to book the Beatles experience, don’t know if that is still available?

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 23/05/2023 13:47

I really enjoyed the maritime museum and the Walker art gallery.
I personally wouldn’t bother with Morecambe… but Lytham is nice

Sirzy · 23/05/2023 13:49

The museums are great. Western approaches is a smaller one but is fascinating from a history POV

Restlessinthenorth · 23/05/2023 13:50

Definitely the Baltic triangle for loads of cool bars/places to eat etc

Take a stroll around indie bold street

A visit to the Cavern is a must, with Sgt Peopers just a few doors away with loads of free live music

nancy75 · 23/05/2023 13:53

We stayed in the novotel liverpool city centre. Rooms were really clean, staff very helpful and it's walking distance to everything

It is though. I lasted 6 months working in a job across anfield, couldn’t wait to get out of there. And it not like it’s a massively rough part of liverpool, it’s just a depressing shithole. I’ve never seen anfield as a recommendation for a visit to Liverpool, not unless it’s football related. Where is it exactly you’re recommending they go?
Op there’s loads of Beatles related tours online, you may have to prebook some. Have a Google and see what you fancy. It’s hard to know what to recommend without knowing what you’re into as there’s loads of quirky experiences in Liverpool that’ll keep you busy for days.

Thinkofme · 23/05/2023 13:58

The Beatles taxi tour - Fab Four is very good and the cabbie will give you a steer on other places to visit. A trip on the ferry has always gone down well when we've had visitors of all ages staying with us.

Inc0gn1to · 23/05/2023 13:59

@Fiddlerdragon the recommendation will relate to the football stadium, not the surrounding area! Have you not heard of Liverpool FC? I assumed you were a Bluenose from your original post . Admittedly it's a poor area but it's improved loads in recent years and people wander round to spot all the LFC wall murals.

Anyway, it's academic as OP is not interested in football....

We stayed in the Ibis Styles. Was a short walk to everywhere (or the train).

Would recommend the Western Approaches museum and the Slavery/Maritime museums which are next door to each other.

Honestly found the Albert Dock a bit dull.

Trip to Crosby to see the Anthony Gormley and walk on the beach is great, there are detailed instructions on how to get there online.

If you're going to Walker art gallery you can visit Port Sunlight, a model village, at the same time. 15 mins on train from city centre.

CrepuscularCritter · 23/05/2023 14:08

One of the Travelodges has a beautiful view over Albert Dock from one side...highly recommended. Albert Dock itself is a good meander with the Maritime Muaeum, Tate, and loads of places to eat. There are sailing ships, a tearoom double decker bus and possibly still a duck boat.

Most of The Beatles spots are quite close together near the Cavern Club, Hard Day's Night hotel etc.

My favourite thing was going to see the Gormley statues in the estuary at Crosby. There are also the Formby red squirrels and a sandy beach.

This is why I love Mumsnet. People taking a few minutes out of their day to help a stranger.

There is a thread on from about a week ago asking a similar question.

Here's the link it was full of useful information about where to visit.

We enjoyed this when we were there in Feb. DCs are a bit younger than yours but it might appeal.

I really enjoyed Western Approaches museum, and the Museum of Liverpool. The catholic cathedral was impressive for the stained glass, too. I also really liked the trip to the beach to see the Anthony Gormley statues (check the tide times).

JaneJeffer · 23/05/2023 14:52

The stadium of course! Are you on the wind up? (or the wine). They have guided tours and everything.

I think she means a stadium tour, not a walk around the area

Starlitexpress · 23/05/2023 15:06

I wouldn't have a set itinerary, just have days planned for wet/dry/unseasonably warm. Merseyrail is great and as others have said Crosby and Formby (Formby is where the footballers live!) are fabulous in the sunshine and keep museums for grey days.

I have lost hours just sat at the Pied Head (where they had the Eurovision village) just sat with a sandwich people watching and looking at all the boats!

Don't forget, if you can see the Welsh mountains, it's going to rain, if you can't see them............its already raining!

I was going to suggest this too as something a bit different. My DCs are also younger but I think it would appeal to all ages.
