To wish I had money - it's as simple as that

Watched Rich House Poor House last night. The famous millionaire gay dad's were on it. Just looking at their house & their lives, I just wished money was no issue for me. They have houses in UK & florida & elsewhere. They own hotels in Spain plus much more.. They can jump on a business class flight whenever they want. Took us 2 years to save airmiles for business class flights for 2 of us. We're not Poor and are fortunate we can makes end meet but have had to cut back like everyone else due to COL. But to be able to jump on a flight and go anywhere at any time, to have the world at your feet, to never have to worry about money. I will never get to any of my dream holiday destinations due to cost. I'm currently debating if I can afford to spend £50 on a pair of Designer flip-flops. I can afford it but there are really other priorities where the £50 should go. We have some debt that we can afford to pay back, and we are paying back, the debt is a drop in the ocean for the dads on the TV show. They could pay it off in a month. It will take us several years.

I meant to say it's a route to unhappiness. Focus on what you want, what makes you feel good and what you can change. Try to be positive about what you have and who you are.

@Pickledmeg

You would think so wouldn't you as did I

Literally tried to privately fund specialist care for one family member after weeks of us getting nowhere with any type of mental crisis help to the point where it took many days for the emergency crisis team to actually return a call it's been shocking.

It's a complicated situation anyway but having the money literally has made no difference in trying to help at all and that's what's been the eye opener for me.

Even a private referral would take upto 6 weeks and we needed the help right at that moment.

Doing an a and e admission wasn't at all possible due to the circumstances and that a and e had a 12 hour wait which would still have only resulted in a request for a mental health nurse and then no guarantee it would be within the following week.

No amount of money could have hurried the help along or helped in that moment and that feeling of being completely stuck is horrendous.

WideFootWelly · 22/05/2023 10:25

I feel the same OP. I often fantasise about winning the euro millions and living a nice lifestyle with zero thought to money.

I'm currently trying really hard to be happy with what I have (which is plenty), and make my daydreams about what to do with my current house and garden and not about buying the neighbours house and doubling my house/garden 😆

Hairpinleg · 22/05/2023 10:34

I think the amount of effort you went to, and made other people go to, just to fly business class is totally extreme. It seems like a really bizarre thing thing to fixate on. We all like holidays but it wouldn't even occur to me to be so jealous of those who fly business.

Mummysalwaysright · 22/05/2023 10:42

Oh boo hoo OP! You had to save up for business class flights and are thinking about buying designer flip flops? Life must be incredibly tough for you.

If you need more of that kind of rubbish in your life you'll just have to work and save a bit harder...

CreationNat1on · 22/05/2023 10:47

Envious navel gazing while deciding on designer flip flops!! Grow up!

@Hairpinleg we didn't force anyone. Where did I say that ? family offered if you must know. It was a life-times dream for us to experience it, so we made it happen. Implies like you could be jealous. It was a lot of effort, but at £12k return for 2 of us, it was the only way it was going to happen

I can empathise, they say money doesn’t buy happiness but it makes a difference to most peoples well-being. I am well into my overdraft, my car is on its last legs, I can’t afford to take it to a garage and I can’t afford the dentist. I hate it! Moving away from that, I'm still a positive person, I gave the only 2 quid I had left in my purse to a homeless lady recently because I realise there are people out there worse off than me.

Soubriquet · 22/05/2023 10:50

I wish I had money too. Enough to be able to buy a house or at least get a mortgage. Enough for an electric wheelchair or mobility scooter that I desperately need.

Enough to pay off my debts and actually take my kids on a proper holiday for once

Soubriquet · 22/05/2023 10:53

Ooo and beds. We are really need new beds. The springs have gone in mine and there’s a massive rip, but I can’t afford to replace it

Hairpinleg · 22/05/2023 10:54

I could regularly fly business class but I'd see it as just flushing money down the toilet.

HermioneWeasley · 22/05/2023 10:56

Almost nobody on this planet has no money worries. Comparison is the thief of joy. Compared to most people on this planet your life is unimaginably luxurious. Enjoy it.

Lcb123 · 22/05/2023 10:59

But you have no idea what goes on behind the cameras, they might be utterly miserable. That life sounds very unfulfilling to me. I'd really stop watching those shows. And £50 for flipflops!?

sweetdreamstenasee · 22/05/2023 11:01

I’m not sure there’s a single person on the planet who is wouldn’t want to not think about money?

Boredwitholdname · 22/05/2023 11:02

Waaah? Think how many economy class holidays you could have had with that 12k!!

GeraltsBathtub · 22/05/2023 11:04

Buy £5 flip flops and invest the other £45. The only way to get rich is to develop income streams that are independent of your labour.

Caramelisedbiscuitbutter · 22/05/2023 11:04

Bloody hell OP your title was a bit misleading

Appleblum · 22/05/2023 11:09

This is so weird. I mean sure I'd like to be rich too but I wouldn't want it so that I can fly business class? It's just a flight?

ToHellBackAndBeyond · 22/05/2023 11:16

I'd love to have a lot of money, not for me but for my children so they can have and do and see. I'd like to move my parents to a house more suited for wheelchair access. I'd love to fund private medical care for everyone here.
As it is we are lucky enough to own the house, it's small and not really where we want to be but it's a house. I needed shoes as the old ones had holed through the bottom so I scratched the £8 to buy them. Son and daughter needed clothes so I sold some stuff to pay for them. I'd like to work more hours but I already do full time self employment and care for hubby and parents as well as looking after the house and children and dogs.
Money would help so very much but where does it stop? When is enough enough?

Damnspot · 22/05/2023 11:20

I can't imagine having the headspace and desire to go through all that hassle to fly business class and I wouldn't dream of spending 50 on flip flops. Guess we all have different priorities but seriously, if I found myself lusting after anything so shallow I'd give my head a wobble.

BridgetsBigPants · 22/05/2023 11:21

Honestly I guess it's fine to feel envious but it's a little silly. Why waste time and energy worrying about something that is highly unlikely to change? Unless you get an inheritance, lotto win or major employment change obviously.

I would far rather take several cheap flights than an expensive business class one. For me it's more about enjoying the destination than worrying about comfort on the plane.

Maybe focus on enjoying what you have in life and prioritising what is important. Personally I would never waste money on designer slides, I would save it and put it towards a holiday with my kids. But if having something nice on your feet is important, get the slides. Most people can't have it all, thats life. Also maybe stop watching reality crap if it doesn't make you happy.

Damnspot · 22/05/2023 11:22

I will caveat that by saying we have just come into a chunk of money through inheritance. Business class and fit flops are not on my radar. Paying down the mortgage and paying my bills on time without worrying has given me peace of mind.

Remember, this is MN, where you're not allowed to complain unless you're claiming a cartoonish, Oliver Twist-style performance of abject poverty.

Move along.

I would normally agree with you, but even I thought the OP was a piss take at first.
