Would you hire a holiday cottage that had a beehive in the garden?

Quite a big garden, beehive is a long way from house.

Personally it would put me off.

I would love this. In fact it sounds bliss all round. Adding my comment shamelessly to see if op post a link!

What's the insurance situation if someone gets stung while on the property?

You would have to prove whose bee did the stinging ………

I think it is a lovely idea, and would really enjoy being a foster bee keeper for a week, even if all I had to do was watch them going about their business. Would enjoy it even more if there was a jar of cottage honey in the welcome basket. 🙂Make sure there is a phone number for a local bee group in case of a late summer swarm.

MaggieFS · 22/05/2023 13:55

I'd be fine with it, my uncle used to keep bees. I would be sure to fence off the hive area to keep dogs, children, balls etc away and be clear on your webpage so that anyone scared can choose not to stay with you.

It sounds lovely!

I wouldn't bother with the old wine, it might not come across the way you intend!

FunnysInLaJardin · 22/05/2023 14:00

Depends on the type of bee. My neighbour had a beehive in his garden which is next to ours and the bees were really aggressive and used to sting us whenever we went in the garden.

I wouldn't have believed it to be true if I hadn't seen it.

PlatBilledDuckypuss · 22/05/2023 15:04

I have. We had no problems with the hives (2 of them) or the bees at all.

instantpotnoodle · 22/05/2023 15:14

Sounds amazing. I think I’d be more likely to want to go to it!

Nagado · 22/05/2023 17:20

@PylaSheight I wasn’t flapping. I was asleep. On my sofa. Minding my own business.

I think the world is divided between those people who see wasps for the spiteful little assassins they are and those who believe they’re simply misunderstood.

Quisquam · 22/05/2023 17:24

It wouldn’t bother me. We were really happy to have a wild bees’ nest in our garage one summer!

Very true. They are tiny flying bags of hate.

Looks lovely. Not a part of the World I'm familiar with (probably because it's easier to get to the Continent from here) but it does look really nice.

Wishing you all the best in your new venture. Don't forget to publicise on your local FB groups, my DF rents out a cottage and she gets a lot of bookings from people wanting to stay with there relatives who life nearby for holidays or Christmas.

That’s a good idea! Cottages.com have been crap, the photos took until TODAY to get online and I don’t think they do it justice.

DS is a Photographer. He's nowhere near you but sometimes he gets hired to do property shots, any Photographer with decent all round experience should be able to do this.

Mostly it's been for properties that haven't sold and they always go after the better photos are uploaded.

Occasionally he's done it for rentals and the bookings always go up.

Scoutingforhoney · 28/06/2023 17:51

Does anyone have any feedback on it? All ideas welcome!

It’s utterly idyllic. It is beautiful isn’t it. Your incredibly fortunate.

Saucery · 28/06/2023 19:08

It looks fantastic. Not a part of the UK we currently explore but I’m sure you will have no trouble filling it.
Agree with publicizing on FB - our favourite cottages . com property we found because an acquaintance shared it - it was quite new to the market and after the first visit we were invited to book direct with the owner. Other owners have also said to contact them direct after our first stay, so if that’s something you don’t mind handling you could do that?

katseyes7 · 28/06/2023 19:19

Oh my god, yes! I'd LOVE it!

TonTonMacoute · 28/06/2023 19:45

Looks smashing and I'm sure will attract plenty of interest from people who won't mind the bees!

Of it's a problem then you can rethink.

EggInANest · 28/06/2023 22:58

I love that part of the S Coast, so many lovely places to go.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 29/06/2023 17:50

I agree with you that the photos aren't great. I think the other photos you've posted are far better than the ones on the listing! The back view towards the house from the garden is particularly inviting.

GettingStuffed · 29/06/2023 18:46

It wouldn't bother me. Last year we had a bee's hive in the walls of our house. They managed to excavate it out of a brick which had a tiny hole in it.

DontCallMeBaby · 01/07/2023 10:58

Agree that your pic looking towards the back of the house is lovely and better than the ones on the website. Also this: “Enclosed back garden with firepit, sitting-out area, barbecue and garden furniture.” Not seeing any of that, just the one garden bench in your photo. I love outdoor space with a holiday rental, it’s nice to see pics that show what you can actually do with it. Good to see what there is, that it’s not one rickety table and two chairs for a house sleeping 10.
