Strangers you meet for a minute but often think about

Gatwick Airport morning of 9/1/01, we were flying to Greece on holiday and were next to a Gate for a New York flight. Young woman, in tears, travelling alone with a baby and a grizzly toddler who was playing up. I played peekaboo with him for a while until our flight was called.
The atrocity happened while we were in the air and i assume she ended up being grounded somewhere with her children.

I flew to relatives abroad a lot when mine were little and often think of her.

My job is fast turnaround MH triage so lots.

1995, I'm having my first baby and admitted at 26 weeks due to some spotting.

Girl opposite me. She's 20 weeks, has serious scoliosis and her water has broken. She seemed absolutely sure her baby was going to be fine.

If he or she was then they are 27/28. I really hope they made it.

The lovely lady paramedic who looked after me on my ambulance ride to be transferred to another hospital after I had given birth and lost my son. She was such a lovely calming presence, squeezed my hand during the ambulance ride and gave me a quick hug and whispered into my ear that I was a superhero before she left me at the hospital. I was so broken and upset that I don’t think I thanked her, she made that awful day just a tiny bit better and wish I could tell her how much I appreciated it.

In my 20's I travelled to Prague by myself to meet a friend. It should have been a straightforward late afternoon flight, but as we approached the airport to land, bad weather meant we were diverted to Bratislava.

By the time we landed there and got a bus to the train station (took ages) it was gone midnight. The station was small and empty and I had to wait around 2 hours for the next train. That went fine and I got the train and found myself arriving at the main station in Prague around 3am. I quickly realised this wasn't a great place to hang around, I had no money as I had been planning to change some the next day and was really hungry. I always couldn't work out how to get to the area I needed to get to.
I went outside and a really agitated guy started following me, this was one of only a few times travelling when I have actually felt scared. I quickly went back into the station and noticed two men who didn't look like the waifs and strays populating the station. I think they were Russian and luckily for me spoke English, they explained the metro didn't start running till 4.45, they helped me buy a ticket and told me where to get the train from, they even bought me a coffee. It was so kind of them. The journey took 21 hrs door to door! But I felt very lucky indeed that day.

She was carrying a white parasol. I only saw her for one second. She didn't see me at all, but I'll bet a month hasn't gone by since that I haven't thought of that girl.
