Is there a new social media trend amongst teens (maybe Tik Tok), at the moment? I had an uncomfortable experience.

I was on my lunch break, enjoying a coffee in the park, talking on the phone. Suddenly 3 young girls (late teens or maybe 20), walked past and one of them suddenly shrieked, while chatting. It made me jump, so I admit I did look at them, still on my phone.

One of them then looked back at me, walked over, her phone in my face and filmed me, while saying to me, 'Well HELLO, WHORE', then ran back to her friends shrieking with laughter. It left me feeling v uncomfortable, I wonder if they just took a dislike to me, or it's some sort of 'trend' to do this to unsuspecting people.

I was in my work uniform btw, so didn't match her description of me at all! 😮

I wouldn’t know about TikTok but that sounds really upsetting.

Funny how these kinds of people always travel in packs isn’t it? And always prey on people who are alone. Absolute cowards.

cocksstrideintheevening · 20/05/2023 15:28

Not a trend I've seen.

They sound like a bunch of ducks.

cocksstrideintheevening · 20/05/2023 15:28

Dicks!

Townlife · 20/05/2023 15:51

Yes, I doubt they,'d have done it if I'd been with someone, they seemed typical 'school bully' types. Also, just wondering what they'll do with the video footage!😮 Only a few seconds, but still ....

Luckily I only work here once a month. It's not my local centre, so if these girls share it it's not likely to be amongst people I know. Very weird!!

They will eventually pick on the wrong person and them they'll know about it!!

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 20/05/2023 15:54

Sounds horrible. I'd be so ashamed of my child if they behaved like this. If I saw a video circulating of them doing something like this, they wouldn't have their phone anymore nor be going out.

BriceNobeslovesMurielHeslop · 20/05/2023 15:55

I saw a TikTok where some teenage boys entered a strangers house (the woman had left the door open while gardening) for a “challenge”. It was horrible - nothing happened but it was so uncomfortable.

Thehonestybox · 20/05/2023 15:55

Sounds like they were just as you say, school bullies. Sorry this happened to you. I really feel for all the young girls they act like this to at their school.

isthismylifenow · 20/05/2023 15:57

Bloody hell that is just horrible.

Sorry OP, I don't know what it was all about or why she did that.

I feel SM is really evil and toxic at times.

Spriggedcotton88 · 20/05/2023 15:57

I’m sorry that happened to you. How upsetting. Life is hard enough without idiots intentionally making it worse. They sound awful. I’d be mortified if my 19 and 22 year old carried on like that.

Townlife · 20/05/2023 15:59

Thank you, exactly! I"m a 51 year old woman, and despite the fact they weren't even born when I started work/got married etc, I felt intimidated by them!

I saw this in the media earlier today and was going to mention it. Very disturbing.

ComputerInitiateJump · 20/05/2023 16:14

That sounds really awful. I'm going through some tough times at the moment and I would crumble if that happened to me. I hope you're OK, op.

They may actually be younger as teen girls look a lot older nowadays. I can't imagine 20 year olds behaving like that.

I would report it to 101. They could be doing it a lot in the area and as a pp says, it could be the wrong person next time.

sharonelizabeth · 20/05/2023 16:47

A few months ago my friend and I were walking our dogs in the local park, 3 girls came up to us ( young teens) and started shouting at us that we were whores and prostitutes. I’m nearly 60, and my friend is a retired headmistress, they weren’t filming us though. It was the most bizarre thing.

Yes it is the new (unfunny) trend, unfortunately OP. I saw two little darlings (thugs) do it earlier this week to an elderly couple of all people! I really felt for them but they had the right approach and just looked at them totally bemused and like they were the idiots they are. I am heavily pregnant currently and I also found it very worrying as if it shocked me, I might have tripped over or something. I would have confronted them about how it could be dangerous but the last time I did that I was a threatened with violence and they looked quite intimidating tbh.

2bazookas · 20/05/2023 17:17

Your reflexes must be slow. A phone thrust in my face would very shortly be a phone in my hand/under my foot./in bits.

I’m so confused, what even is the trend? Get a stranger to look at you and then call them names?

Teens have a camera filming.
They sneak up behind an unsuspecting person.
They screech in their ear (as I saw) or shout some kind of insult.
They film their reaction.
They upload to TikTok to share with likeminded idiots with a crap sense of humour.

RicherThanYews · 20/05/2023 17:28

Don't worry yourself too much op, whore is a stupid fucking word and they will get beaten up fairly quickly if they continue. Hope you're OK.

When I saw it being done, they snuck up from behind. You say this but I once confronted a man after seeing him speak to a woman like shit and he followed me and threatened violence. If you did this, you’d possibly put yourself at risk. The two I saw doing it were total thugs. I’m not scared of teens at all but in a city where many carry knives, I won’t take any risks.

Bec198 · 20/05/2023 17:30

I should say SOME carry knives! Most teens are great.

Ocresocks · 20/05/2023 17:32

How awful. I often wonder what these teenage girl types will be like when they're doddery old ladies.

Fishwives! These kids’ grannies are still around, and are just as bad as the kids themselves. It is taught behaviour, the rest of the family are usually all the same.

Thanks for explaining, how shitty!

mumofthemonsters808 · 20/05/2023 19:37

If I find out my 13 year old is doing anything like this I’ll come down on him like a ton of bricks. It might be the latest so called trend but it’s disgusting, whoever comes up with this shit needs their head seen to.I’m sorry you experienced this.
