Naice summer holiday

How much would you say one cost? Not all out luxury 21 cruise but say your naice 4/5star hotel, flights etc for a week? And your fam size of course

reason for asking, doing a week 5 star all inc, flights and transfers £2.2k, 2 adults 2 kids (just before end of school, not compulsory Ed yet). DM is saying we vastly overpaid… but I shopped around quite a bit and it seemed quite a decent deal. She does this a bit it’s like she’s forgotten a) cost of living b) inflation and c) it’s not the 90s anymore

That sounds like a good price.
We pay about 2k per head for 4 of us in August and that's AI and shopping around for competitive deals very early.

Once you're in school holiday territory, you'll dream of paying what you've paid.

Tbh I think I might take them out of school for a few days towards end of term, if it comes to it

That sounds a bloody good price. Holidays have gone up hugely even on last year, but def since before Covid. If people haven’t gone away in a while it’s a shock for them!

user4750 · 14/05/2023 17:24

Generally looking at about £5-£6k for a week abroad for a family of four somewhere quite nice but not fancy now.

holidays are expensive.

grass321 · 14/05/2023 17:25

I'm a convert to Ikos all inclusive resorts. Last one in Spain cost around £4k including flights in October half term for 2 adults and a teenager.

Upcoming week in June for the same number of people but in Greece is costing around £7k. That's taking one of the cheaper options in Greece, they're often £10k plus for the week. Seems crazy for a week in Europe even AI but they must be getting enough demand judging by availability.

So, no, yours sounds decent value to me.

Roselilly36 · 14/05/2023 17:27

Sounds an amazing price to me, DH & I are paying much more than that for a holiday, just the two of us, outside of school holiday.

Phos · 14/05/2023 17:28

£2.2k for ALL OF YOU?? I want to know what travel agent you use - no way have I seen anything half decent for that price.

Roselilly36 · 14/05/2023 17:29

@grass321 we have booked IKOS Dassia, around £4k.

Yumyumcakes · 14/05/2023 17:29

We’re going to Turkey if that affects things, saw a few comparable prices in Greece, canaries, Cape Verde and Tunisia and epypt (didn’t fancy the last 2). It’s going in June that’s making the difference I think price wise.

will have to get creative in school hols

You got a bargain, your DM is way out of touch with holiday costs now I’m sad to say.

That’s what I thought, but the idea of overpaying made me feel quite queasy so I needed to check haha

We pay around £2,400 for a week all inclusive first week of July this year, £2k last year. Both 4 star, all inclusive. We are in Scotland so it's within the school holidays but fly from Newcastle - always a fair bit cheaper than Edinburgh in Scottish school holidays. Is flying from Scotland during Scottish term dates (or vice versa) an option?

Sadly not we live in the midlands. When they’re in school will probably end up maybe doing May and or October for a hols or going end of august when some people are back or week before school ends

@grass321 we have booked IKOS Dassia, around £4k.

That's very good. Just double checked, we're paying €5,800 for a superior triple sea view (after a 10% loyalty discount). We only booked it a couple of months ago though, think it's cheaper further out.

The food and drink was amazing though.

thecrispfiend · 14/05/2023 17:45

I have booked a week in mid august 3* hotel all inclusive for me and my mum and my school aged child it cost £2,400 that was easyJet holidays flying from Liverpool x

thecrispfiend · 14/05/2023 17:46

Sorry forgot to say that is to Majorca included transfers baggage etc I though that was a great deal x

PinkyU · 14/05/2023 17:46

We’re doing 2 weeks in a 4star AI, 2 adults, 2 children.

We’re going the week before the school holidays(Scottish) and flying from an English airport. £3300 at the time of booking, now nearly £4K.

shivawn · 14/05/2023 17:54

Really depends where you're going, we like tropical destinations. I love a gloriously warm sea and you just don't get those sea temperatures in Europe. It's normally around €2.5k just for the flights for the 3 of us.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 14/05/2023 17:55

We've booked 5 star a.i in Egypt. We are returning there as its amazing.
6.5k but it's for 3 weeks and 3 people.

Sell me your dream, where do you like to go?

ive seen some good uae/ dubai jumeriah / palm deals for £3k half board july time but it’s boiling

She’s definitely out of touch isn’t she, my mum. I got WDW florida (i know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea) March 10 days flights separately it all together for around 4K and she’s been saying how expensive it is as she used to pay £1k

OP posts:
modgepodge · 14/05/2023 18:03

Sounds about right. I’ve paid £2.2k for 2 adults and a child for early July to a Spanish island. That included a 10% discount as I booked it during their January sale. There were plenty a lot more expensive than that but not many cheaper if you wanted all inclusive with kids clubs etc. I don’t think you’ve overpaid!

Our favourite place is Philippines, it's just beautiful, the scenery is out of this world. There's so much to do and see and the people are amazing and honest. You don't have people constantly trying to scam you like you get in a lot of other SE Asia countries.

Malaysia is also amazing, really recommend the Perhentian Islands or Langkawi.

Bali doesn't have as nice beaches but the hotels are out of this world and incredible value plus the food is unreal...they put a lot of effort in to making everything "instagramable" there so you get amazingly presented dishes. I'd love to see more of Indonesia too.

I travelled around Australia for 2 years on a working holiday about 12 years ago so it has a special place in my heart

Africa direction I love Seychelles, Mauritius and Kenya. South Africa is probably one of the best place I've ever been but it isn't tropical, I froze my ass off cage diving with great whites there! Worth it though!

newtowelsplease · 14/05/2023 18:27

My dad is the same as your mum OP, he thinks things should cost the same as they did 30 years ago. Also now he doesn't have to stick to school holidays he's completely unaware of the premium charged.
