Is Gousto good?

NeedMotivation12 · 13/05/2023 17:22

Thinking of trying out gousto so I can actually cook nice, healthy meals without the faff of buying (and wasting) loads of ingredients. I live by myself too so I could get a fair few meals out of a box.

Is it good quality? Are the recipes nice?

I know there are loads of food box delivery services now so if you recommend something better then let me know!

Yes. I really like Gousto. I use hello fresh and green chef too.

Tootootoot · 13/05/2023 17:33

I haven't tried gousto but really like green chef. I look for the ones that say they have a quick cooking time and find them easy enough to throw together. They always come out tasting nice also and are quite healthy. I like the fact they only send you what you need for the recipes so you're not stuck with a big jar of something you'll never use again. It's more expensive than just buying ingredients and cooking for yourself but I find it's worth it for the convenience. I'd imagine gousto is very similar. A colleague of mine uses hello fresh and also raves about it.

Love Gousto (much prefer it to Hello Fresh). We eat so much more of a variety of meals now, loads of fish & veggie meals

Tresfren · 13/05/2023 17:46

I found it quite expensive compared to meal planning/ batch cooking to avoid wastage. I bulk buy things like meat now and batch cook. It's definitely convenient though if you don't want the faff of meal planning

Oysterbabe · 13/05/2023 17:51

I really rate Simply Cook.
It's a bit different in that you just get the spices, pastes and oils and a recipe card. All the recipes have 4-6 simple ingredients and can be made in 20-30 minutes. You can choose the recipes you want and buy the ingredients in advance. I just add them to my online shop. A box is £10 and you get 4 different meals for 2 people. They keep and can be used whenever.
It's good because you sub ingredients in the recipe you don't like, buy your preferred meat etc.
I get 2 boxes a month, which means we try 2 new recipes a week.

Its banging and they give such good discounts and referalls.

65% off your first box and the referer gets £20 credit!

Love it. As well as learning to cook new recipes I know have a bank of simple recipes that I can repeat. And I love the 'no shopping, no wastage'.

beetlebrain · 13/05/2023 18:00

We used it for 3 months while we were having building work done and a caravan was our kitchen diner. We ate really well at a time when it could easily have been nothing but beans. And we got the good discount off my sister. Would recommend.

FourTeaFallOut · 13/05/2023 18:02

It's our buffer zone between being organised and living on takeaways.

mynameiscalypso · 13/05/2023 18:03

I think it's good for a relatively short period of time, then it gets a bit repetitive. There were always quite a few meals that I didn't see the point of using an expensive recipe box for - like sausages and mash.

Cantshakeit · 13/05/2023 18:05

I just got my delivery today. 4 meals for 4 people are really generous in terms of portion sizes, so often stretches to 4 meals for 5-6 people. This makes it really good value for money, loads of new recipes added all of the time, and no food waste.

This link will give you 65% of your first box, plus 25% off your first two months. If you only sign up for this deal, it's worth it.

You can cancel any delivery or pause your subscription any time. So easy. Give it a try.

1992H · 13/05/2023 18:08

I love it. It means we actually cook rather than order take out/eat rubbish.
my kids love helping cook and consequently eat everything too. I reckon it saves us a fortune too, and so convenient!

FourTeaFallOut · 13/05/2023 18:08

Well, I think that's over-egging the pudding. I think the portion sizes are about right and I wouldn't want a smaller one.

dueindecember10 · 13/05/2023 18:13

We are big fans. A 2 person box feeds 2 adults and a child. If we are cooking for both kids we bulk out with some extras. I hate meal planning so it takes that chore away and stops me visiting the supermarket too much where I always spend more than I intended to.

I love Gousto. We are too tight/poor to use it all the time but we have it every January as something to look forward to whilst trying to be healthy and not spend money on meals out or takeaways. Then we have it again in summer or autumn for a couple of weeks when they send a good discount code.

We now cook loads of the recipes regularly too. Everyone in the house picks one meal or if DS is away at uni we have one joint choice and I have eaten and loved things that I would never have picked myself.

I think we have only ever hated one meal and found a few meh.

UsefulZombie · 13/05/2023 18:14

We love Gousto! We're a mostly vegan household and still find lots of choice and have discovered some new ingredients and cooking methods which has been cool. Definitely worth it when you get a substantial discount for the first few boxes. And I fucking love not meal planning. If you want it here's a discount code for signing up - you get 65% off your first box and then 25% off for two months. Not sure it's very cost effective for a plant based diet at full price so probably won't continue when our discount runs out but I'll be pretty sad about it.

Rainbowshit · 13/05/2023 18:18

Yes. It was our favourite compared to hello fresh and green chef.

GracePalmer33 · 13/05/2023 18:21

I love Gousto. It's my favourite of all the recipe boxes and I've tried them all pretty much.

Newuser82 · 13/05/2023 18:26

We use Gousto and love it!

user1471453601 · 13/05/2023 18:38

I was going to use Gusto. I'd got into rut with the meals I was eating. Then a friend told me she would loan me her Gusto recipe book.

I really enjoyed the meals, and found them cheap, but I I have a very well stocked spice drawer. I did think they were very meagre with their veg, so supplement most of the meals with extra veg.

philautia · 13/05/2023 18:42

I've tried them all and Gousto and Green Chef were my favourites. About to restart my subscriptions!

dizzyupthegirl86 · 13/05/2023 18:44

Also a fan of gousto. I get it whenever I fancy the recipes, which is probably every 4-6 weeks. I usually add extra veg as a lot of the recipes I seem to pick are only one of your five a day!
I’ve built up a real selection of recipes now, which I can go back to at any time (if you’re going to use it a fair bit, make sure you get the recipe card folder!)

I avoided the burgers for a while coz it didn’t seem worth it for me, but every one I’ve had now has been stand out amazing.

i also live on my own, I usually have the second portion for lunch or dinner the next day, depending on how lunch appropriate it is and how long the other ingredients will last.

uggmum · 13/05/2023 18:45

I really like it. I've just eaten my tea, which was a Gousto meal.

I have one box a week which contains 4 meals.

The meat is good quality and the dates on everything are generous.

It really takes all the thought process of deciding what to eat every day and I tend to pick meals under 600 calories.

I tried Hello Fresh but I didn't think it was as good.
