Anyone else looking forward to winter? Shit sick of my noisy road already..

Just a rant really... It seems when the sun comes out on my road 90% of folk decide to power hose, get their gardens done, send their kids out on the trampoline at 7am... Yesterday music was blaring loudly from three different gardens.. I can't sit out the back for a coffee.. Kids constantly knocking for my dc.. I have a strong intolerance for too much noise & the summer sends my senses into overdrive..
I love the winter on my road, the peace & quiet, the dark evenings, the calmness...

I don’t think winter has left yet. Where are you that you’ve had sun? Yesterday was 10 degrees and rain all day here

I'm down south & it's been very mixed.. However any sniff of sunshine & it's been bedlem on my road! No exaggeration! I'm loving the cool, wet weather & properly dreading high summer..

Have you tried loop ear plugs. They make everything OK.

AgnesX · 13/05/2023 08:39

It's usually quieter where I am as everyone goes out.

Your version of suburbia sounds like hell.

Sonicgirl56 · 13/05/2023 08:41

@AgnesX I live in a huge new estate & all the houses gardens back on to & overlook each other. Winter is fine but summer is hell. So much worse when all the kids are off school. We've three weeks holidays booked so I'm really looking forward to escaping.

People will calm down I expect. It was the first weekend of decent weather for some people.

Sonicgirl56 · 13/05/2023 08:42

@Hillrunning hubby said the same. I'll invest in a pair!

We’re still in winter aren’t we? Overcast gloomy and cold here in london. Allegedly sun is coming out late afternoon. We live in hope!

TheChosenTwo · 13/05/2023 08:44

I’m in the SE and it rained on and off all day yesterday!! I don’t feel like winter has left me yet.
To be honest, knowing you’re so sensitive so other people’s noise I don’t know what you expected moving Into a new build estate, they’re renowned for being on top of each other, no privacy and being totally overlooked - or at least the ones in my area are.
Headphones in the garden if you want to sit out there for a coffee, or even just playing your own music quietly outside on a portable speaker might dull their sounds.

DemonicCaveMaggot · 13/05/2023 08:46

I am on a new build estate. There aren't any large trees yet to muffle the sound between houses. Fortunately I quite like the sound of my neighbours, the last place we lived it was quiet as a graveyard and it was so lonely being out in the garden. I do have mysophonia though so I entirely empathize with your reaction to the noise.

SirChenjins · 13/05/2023 08:46

Hell no. We’re in the low double figures here and our heating is still on when it’s in single figures. Of course people are going to go outside and make the most of nice weather - far better than months of living indoors under electric lights with only a few hours of miserable daylight and rain, sleet and snow. Winter can fuck off.

Sonicgirl56 · 13/05/2023 08:48

It's the same here no mature trees etc in gardens yet, however most seem to be getting their garden landscaped this week by the sounds of things & judging by the amount of machinery around. At least the summer started later this year compared to last year!

My neighbours have planted a cherry tree and a plum tree alongside our fence and we have put a juneberry tree between them on our side so we will soon be screened. DH and I also put up a huge trellis alongside our patio for jasmine, clematis, and honeysuckle to grow up which will muffle sounds and screen us from being overlooked. It turned out about 8' feet high due to a misunderstanding on our part about post heights. We painted it cornflower blue so it will be cheerful in the Winter.

Cronehands · 13/05/2023 08:49

When's summer starting then? I'm still getting reynauds attacks; my chilblains seem to be making a recurrence and I'm still wearing my oodie.

Move?

Spottycarousel · 13/05/2023 08:50

Nope....dreading winter. Roll on summer!

watcherintherye · 13/05/2023 08:51

I don’t have a lot of tolerance for neighbour noise, either. You need a house in the middle of the country surrounded by land, just like I need! At least sometimes that’s what I think I’d like. The reality would probably be different, and I’d be on here posting about feeling isolated!

bigbadbarry · 13/05/2023 08:52

I have no issue with neighbours living their outdoor lives. I don’t mind barbecues, construction noise, lawnmowers, drilling, trampolines, any of it. But I hate loud music or radio outside. It just feels so intrusive and annoying

theswoot · 13/05/2023 08:56

As someone has already said, Loop earplugs might help. I have gone a step further and have noise-cancelling headphones and they are amazing for muting neighbourhood noise, which I don’t personally find that annoying but prefer not to hear sometimes

Redebs · 13/05/2023 08:57

I must admit being grateful for a bit of rain sometimes. My estate is mostly very quiet nowadays (apart from yappy dog next door), but we've had some noisy neighbours in the past.

I remember the frequent BBQs, the garden drinking, the sweary garden phonecalls, etc and being so relieved when rain stopped play.

SarahSmith2023 · 13/05/2023 09:11

It was lovely here the other day (also SE) & loads of people were out doing stuff, getting gardens & patio furniture etc ready for the summer, kids were playing out...all good (with me).

BUT what pisses me off are the teenagers (older ones) who hang about literally screaming (like they're being murdered) shouting & swearing at the top of their voices and throwing stuff, playing chicken & discussing their sex lives (or imagined ones anyway! ). I'm an adult, so 'whatever' but it's really not great for the kids/tweens.

we live between the local shop & park, so it's bloody constant & until really late (12-1am) & of course, long gone are the days you could ring the local police station to drive around this way & send them in their way. Once they do move off, the slightly older group comes along and parties in the carpark, bottles smashed and lots of 'facing off' and shouting.

believe it or not, this is a 'nice' area, but the kids 'coming through' are as feral as fuck. We need local police driving/cycling/walking around like there used to be.

@Sonicgirl56 sorry, that's a bit if a side track, but I understand your dread of nicer weather bringing out the noise!!

Brrrrrrrrrrrr · 13/05/2023 09:15

It sounds like you need to move to a detached in the countryside. Why would you choose to live in suburban hell especially if the houses are in such close proximity to each other. It’s going to be a loooooong summer.
