Anyone else looking forward to winter? Shit sick of my noisy road already..

Just a rant really... It seems when the sun comes out on my road 90% of folk decide to power hose, get their gardens done, send their kids out on the trampoline at 7am... Yesterday music was blaring loudly from three different gardens.. I can't sit out the back for a coffee.. Kids constantly knocking for my dc.. I have a strong intolerance for too much noise & the summer sends my senses into overdrive..
I love the winter on my road, the peace & quiet, the dark evenings, the calmness...

I do sympathise, personally I don't agree with playing music loud enough for neighbours to hear, although the renovations and trampolining are just part of living close to others. It sounds like your set up there is just going to be noisy in summer no matter what so I'd just make my garden attractive and cosy and do as others have said and get decent noise cancelling headphones. And look forward to the summer!

Mabelface · 13/05/2023 10:23

Conveys of motorbikes here at the first sniff of sun. I'm semi rural. There can be up to 50 at a time running through our little town.

I'm really sensitive to noise so I don't sit out in my garden and use noise cancelling headphones if I'm hanging the washing out. It muffles the sound of bikes, garden tools, dogs barking, kids screaming, car alarms, emergency service sirens etc. I wear them wherever I go so I can function in the real world.

SoupDragon · 13/05/2023 10:25

we haven't even had summer yet and the complaints about "summer" have already started...?

it's like bloody November where I am! I'm so , SO sick of the shit, grey damp weather.

BarrelOfOtters · 13/05/2023 10:30

We moved after 4 years of new neighbours and their hot tub, loud discussion of sex lives, parties and screaming kids. Just one side where previous owner had been lovely.

all gardens round me have retired couples, occasional sound of grandkids and arguing cats. Mature trees….it’s bliss.

When's summer starting then? I'm still getting reynauds attacks; my chilblains seem to be making a recurrence and I'm still wearing my oodie.

Same here. Our heating is set at 15 and it came on yesterday. It's 27 now in the conservatory and I have just set up the power washer. Sorry OP

polkadotdalmation · 13/05/2023 10:54

Maybe time to move?

SadCelticBunny · 13/05/2023 11:06

My next door neighbour uses his garden as a workshop and meeting place for local dirt bike riders/scramblers.

I dread the summer. My garden is my haven and my joy and I am starting to hate being out there.
They don't swear and only occasionally music blares but the talking is constant from morning until night.
We can hear it in the kitchen with the door and windows closed. 😳
It's dry here at last today so I plan to go outside. Wish me luck as I am coming close to screaming myself..."Shut the fuck up for 10 bloody minutes, please!"

user1471538283 · 13/05/2023 11:11

I'm ok with DIY and gardening and children playing but loud music and shouting really upsets me.

I lived for 17 long months between two of the worst families I have ever know. Like you I dreaded the good weather. I had one side with loud music, a hot tub and screaming at each other over it every single day for at least 10 hours a day. I could hear it even with all the doors and windows shut. They hated others noise though.

The other side would take drugs and rant and rave all night twice a week. She hated being woken up though.

I wish them nothing but ill.

The good weather is for everyone to enjoy. Their desire for noise does not trump your need for quiet.

Heresme33 · 13/05/2023 11:27

Hate the summer for this very reason all the bloody noise and what's with people suddenly going deaf and they have to blare the music for all to hear. My neighbours have caravans thank god and they all fuck off down there so I get the peace and quiet for a few weeks. Another thing I don't understand caravan parks full of people and kids all summer nightmare.

I live in mainland Europe in a tourist destination.

I love the autumn and winter 😊

I don’t think winter has left yet. Where are you that you’ve had sun? Yesterday was 10 degrees and rain all day here

This ^ let us have some simmer first and then complain in August or something.

Globe22 · 13/05/2023 11:47

I can’t wait for sunshine and to sit in the garden even with nosy, noisy neighbours. I hate drab grey. Come on sun ☀️

Alighttouchonthetiller · 13/05/2023 11:48

'People' noise is infuriating - loud music is the worst, I think. I live in the countryside and that's pretty loud, too, though not as aggravating. The bird-scarers are like cannon-fire. Farm traffic rattling about, particularly overnight during harvest. The milk tanker roaring down the lane. Gunshots. Owls and foxes are surprisingly loud, and the latter regularly make a noise like a woman screaming, which isn't very restful at 2 am. The birds are lovely but fricking loud from about 4.30 am. Then there are all the bloody ear-splitting motorcyclists who zoom around the lanes and A-roads endlessly at the weekends.

I also find that on the rare occasions when we do hear 'people' noise - usually drunk, bored teenagers - it's much more startling then when we lived in town and I am almost frightened by it, as it's so unexpected.

Alighttouchonthetiller · 13/05/2023 11:48

Must just add though that summer hasn't started here. It's grey and about 10 degrees.

BlueThursday · 13/05/2023 11:55

It’s taps aff weather here just outside Glasgow so im loving it but being a sunny auld firm day will mean I will not go anywhere out of my own neighbourhood to avoid trouble

Glaswegians, sun, football and drink are not a good combination

flapjackfairy · 13/05/2023 16:28

I agree. I hate long summer evenings and am much happier when it gets dark early and I can get cosy and relax .

Blondey2023 · 13/05/2023 09:20

OP it's nearly mid May and still very mild and wet for this time of year. So basically all we have left is June, July and August of summer then it will start to get cooler and darker. This will be the shortest summer ever so hang in there!

Thanks for the words of encouragement 😊raining here today again which I'm happy with!
Just love the autumn & winter, the noisy ones tend to hibernate saving their noise & energy for the summer months!

Have you tried loop ear plugs. They make everything OK.
What type do you use?. The ones I have don't seem to make any difference.

flapjackfairy · 14/05/2023 13:19

@GOW56
I agree I didnt think.they did much and I bought the quiet ones. I find foam earplugs the best for blocking sound out myself.

I didn't want to fork out for loops incase they didn't work against my neighbours music. I went for ones half the price where I got 2 pairs as part of the pack to try it out so I could have a pair for upstairs and a pair for downstairs. They're here https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0BDLDBS3B?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

I'm quite fond of them. They don't block everything out but I'm not so noise reactive with them in and I don't get quite so irritated
