Whodunnit or courtroom drama film recommendation

Please can someone recommend a film for myself and my very narrow 19 year old daughter?
She likes whodunnits ( she loved Glass Onion and Knives Out) , thrillers and court room dramas. Police stuff good too if it's pacy or gritty.
We have access to Netflix, Disney+ , iPlayer and Prime.

Witness for the Prosecution is an old film but it's really good

banjaxxed · 13/05/2023 08:33

Anatomy of a scandal on Netflix

It's a series though not a movie

FurAndFeathers · 13/05/2023 08:38

Why didn’t they ask Evans

I just watched 'Reversal of Fortune' again with Jeremy Irons. Based on a true story. Really good film.

Runaway Jury with John Cusack is good.

Whataretheodds · 13/05/2023 08:57

My Cousin Vinny
In the Name of the Father
Trial of the Chicago 7
12 angry men
To Kill a Mockingbird

Silk
The Good Wife

No Offence (comedy /drama)
Prime Suspect

Cold case dramas:
Pembrokeshire Murders
Unforgotten

Whataretheodds · 13/05/2023 08:59

Oh sorry my first para is films, the rest are series.

A couple of other John Grisham films worth watching too.

Riverlee · 13/05/2023 09:00

Erin Brokovitch

(narrow 19 year old?)

Lyricallie · 13/05/2023 09:05

Oh Clue is amazing, it’s quite campy but a fantastic who dunnit. Not sure if it’s on a streaming service but I’m sure she’d be able to find it online.

Refrosty · 13/05/2023 09:05

Only Murders in the Building on Disney+

Whataretheodds · 13/05/2023 09:07

Murder Mystery 1 and 2 on Netflix! Also Enola Holmes. The Woman in the Window .. also the cheesy spin off The Woman in the house across the street is goofy funny but a mystery all the same.
If she is 19 she will probably like The Hunger Games and the Divergent series

Radiodread · 13/05/2023 09:53

The Trial (Italian with subtitles) is great, loads of twists and turns. Netflix.

Blue Lights for police drama, I thought that was great. IPlayer.

I would like to really really recommend something I watched the other night on Netflix.

It’s episode 5 of the series Trial by Media called “Big Dans”. It’s actually a true case and was the first time a gang rape trial was ever televised on TV in the US.

It’s actually the case that inspired the Jodie Foster film The Accused.

What was most astounding for me was how much victim blaming there was. I think young women should watch it so they can see how far we’ve come (still not far enough). Consent has become the bedrock of our views on rape these days, but back then ….Wow!

It is fairly hard hitting and obviously upsetting so you may not consider it for your 19 year old ddbut it’s worth a watch on you own.

It has a really sad epilogue.

Proudofitbabe · 13/05/2023 10:18

Primal Fear
The Firm
12 Angry Men

Not whodunnits but courtroom based and all gripping/twisty/entertaining

Proudofitbabe · 13/05/2023 10:23

2 very entertaining whodunnits that spring to mind are The Loft and Identity (John Cusack)

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 13/05/2023 10:26

1974 film of Murder on the Orient Express. Much better than the recent Kenneth Branagh version.

Thrillers: we absolutely love the first three Bourne films.

Police dramas: Line of Duty, Happy Valley

RaininSummer · 13/05/2023 10:39

The twelve on netflix

BMW6 · 13/05/2023 10:42

The 1950's original of 12 Angry Men is an absolute Must See imo

mickeymight · 13/05/2023 10:46

I am a Vera fan.
They are all 2 about hours, They all have several layers of story.
An excellent one starts with someone setting fire to the home of a Police Sergeant, and his teen age daughter.

MargotBamborough · 13/05/2023 10:51

Unbelievable on Netflix is one of the best things I've ever seen.

It's a true story about a series of rapes but they keep the violence to what is strictly necessary IMO and it's very focused on the police investigation and the impact on the victims.

travelingtortoise · 13/05/2023 11:01

Oh my gosh I'm so excited to see this thread!

That's my weekend in bed with a cold sorted... thank you everyone!
