If you have kids aged 5-8, what will you be doing this weekend?

Just looking for inspiration.
DD is 4 and we are a bit past some of the more “toddler-ish” activities

Standard weekend activities for us are:

Going into our local town and taking them to a café for a hot chocolate.

Meeting up with family (luckily they have cousins that are a similar age so they go off and play pretty well.)

Going on a walk at our local NT. They sometimes have to be cajoled to do this but we take a picnic and they like that part of the day 🤣.

Bike ride/go out on scooters.

Making own pizzas at home.

Film night at home with popcorn. We do this every week and take turns to choose the film.

We've got annual membership to our local zoo so we often go there too.

Today we have a wimming lesson, classical family workshop and concert at SouthBank centre, then picnic and playground near London Eye. Sunday we have a birthday party, family swim and circus class, and more playground time.

AlwaysAlba · 13/05/2023 08:08

Swimming, treasure hunt and picnic in the woods (also playing knights and princesses at the same time, bashing things with their swords) and probably some kite-flying at the park.

Hopingforno2in2023 · 13/05/2023 08:10

Today is swimming lesson and then a birthday party. After that will probably be relaxing and a walk at some point.

Tomorrow is a football match followed by a kitchen appointment at B&Q.

once they start school I find weekends get so filled up.

Rainallnight · 13/05/2023 08:10

English Heritage place with playground etc today (that’s a big day out for us, long drive, don’t do that sort of thing every weekend)

Tomorrow is swimming lesson for youngest, and then just playing at home, trying to get some chores done, maybe local playground.

Marmite27 · 13/05/2023 08:13

Parkrun, ‘get active’ event in the park, swimming this aft today. Probably a movie before bed.

Junior Parkrun tomorrow, then a walk at our local RSPB reserve.

kezziecakes · 13/05/2023 08:14

My dd (age 6) has a drama class with a friend and then I have a few hours with her alone so might take her out for a hot chocolate and walk around town, then she has a birthday party late afternoon. My ds (age 8) is going into London (we're a 30 min train ride away so not far) with his dad to meet an old friend. Tomorrow we will do junior park run in the morning and church in the afternoon. At some point we will fit in the ridiculous amount of homework they both get.

No offence but that’s the most middle-class weekend I’ve ever heard of 😁

Example spring/summer weekend activities for us are:

Swimming
Farmers market
Picnic in the park with the water play
Woodland walk
Garden centre visit, with cake/ice cream in the café
Visit to the local farm (pick-your-own stuff, large play area, farm shop and café)
A playground that’s more like an adventure course
Gardening at home

Clubs on a Saturday morning, then some chill out time, swimming, trip to the park/NT grounds, movie nights.

Heckythump1 · 13/05/2023 08:18

Meeting DDs friend at the park this afternoon and junior parkrun tomorrow morning are the only planned activities this weekend. We will mostly be tidying up the garden in the sunshine!

eurochick · 13/05/2023 08:18

Today we need to buy a birthday present for tomorrow's party then my daughter will have her dance lessons. We also need to fit in visiting a car tyre place, the garden centre and doing the weekly shop.

Tomorrow my daughter has a birthday party. We will probably do garden stuff and then hopefully my parents will be up to coming over for a visit.

HomeSeck · 13/05/2023 08:21

Today will involve:

Bike riding practice down at the park

Batch cooking some bolognese to restock the freezer

Classmates party this afternoon

Family sleepover at our friends to watch Eurovision (hopefully 5 year old will not be awake for the whole thing!)

MeinKraft · 13/05/2023 08:21

Relaxing at home this morning then a birthday party in the afternoon. Tomorrow visiting family, sometimes we go to a farm or park afterwards.

Nanamuffin · 13/05/2023 08:24

One 5 year old
today ikea and playground
tomorrow park festival and birthday party
and homework at some point!

Starcircle · 13/05/2023 08:30

We had great success with Clip’n’Climb recently (lots of different climbing walls). They both really enjoyed that and still talk about it!

GoldenGorilla · 13/05/2023 08:41

Saturday morning: one has football club with his dad, the other will do Lego with me

Saturday afternoon: football one will do baking with me while the Lego one gets groceries with his dad.

Saturday evening: family film night (pizza and shrek)

Sunday morning: homework, music practice, packing bags for the week. Also Lego etc.

Sunday afternoon: playground, feed ducks, walk and hot choc at the cafe

Upsadiddles · 13/05/2023 08:46

I’ve got a 6 year old and a toddler. We had a very full on weekend away last week, so we are going for a more chilled weekend. The only firm plan is a movie night and pizza tonight. Otherwise we’ll have a couple of walks, probably via the play park. DD will bring her scooter. She’s going to make some family birthday cards today, and she’s set up her sylvanians so no doubt she’ll dip in and out of playing with those. If the weather brightens up as it’s forecast to tomorrow then we’ll probably have an hour or two on the local beach. I also need to try and fit some house work in and prevent the toddler from
trying to injure herself every 5 minutes.

Things we’ve done recently that are a hit are the trampoline park (which conveniently has a toddler soft play), visit to a local castle, going out for lunch with the promise of an ice cream sundae. A walk to the library is an easy way to fill an hour or so.

sleepismyhobby · 13/05/2023 08:47

My ds wants to play football this morning we have a bbq this afternoon for a friends birthday . If home at decent time we'll have our Saturday night movie night.
Tomorrow swimming not his lesson but a family swim . Possibly a car boot sale and later on a cycle he's just learned to ride his bike . Then homework later on

aSofaNearYou · 13/05/2023 08:50

God people do a lot in a day, most of these things I'd only do one of in any given day!

Today we are going for a picnic in a playground, we won't be doing anything else. Tomorrow, probably just staying in.

LBOCS2 · 13/05/2023 08:55

Mine are a bit older (10 and 7) but:

Swimming lesson this morning
Gardening this afternoon, planting up the bits we got from the garden centre last Monday
Eurovision tonight (they're very excited!)

Tomorrow first thing, DH will probably take DD2 to the park on something with wheels (bike/scooter/heelys) as they're both early risers. I have promised them we'll bake something, and they have bits and pieces of homework to do. We might play on the switch together as we haven't for a while.

Other things we do at the weekend include day trips to the beach or into London (lots of free museums, exhibitions, things to see), local farmers markets (or Borough if we're feeling flush), DIY - they like helping, and also just letting them have decompression time away from school. We do lots of movie evenings and one of their favourite things is to have picky bits dinner where we get lots of party food and have that instead of a 'proper' dinner.

SourDoughToast · 13/05/2023 08:55

Mine did Saturday morning football training from 4 years old - then this switched to matches from around age 6/7.

That was good for getting us up in the morning and giving a structure to the day. Plus I could sit down and have a coffee during the session!

The rest of the weekend was stuff like walks, scooter or bike riding, zoo (we had membership), playing in the garden, trampolining, art and crafty stuff, watching tv etc.

Wanttoshavemyhairoff · 13/05/2023 08:58

5 and 10 year old- sports this morning then we’re off out to lunch

both have parties this weekend, will visit relatives for an hour at some stage

both will have friends up or go to friends houses and a playground will be thrown in at some stage

week days are so busy with school , activities and work that I try to catch up with some kind of house work over the weekend and see my own friends !

How old are yours if you don't mind me asking? DS is keen to go soon but not sure if he might be a bit little (4 nearly 5)!
