Last day of pregnancy... what do I do?!

I'm being induced tomorrow at 40+3 due to a trend of slightly reduced foetal movement. Not thrilled about it tbh but as Doctor has advised that this would be the safer option I'm not about to argue!
We could get called in any time tomorrow, so we've made plans for my DSS to be with his mum from 9am... and then we'll wait!

What would you do, knowing it's your last day of pregnancy?
My current plans include double checking the bags and getting DH to put them in the car, giving the car a hoover and clean, a last run to Aldi for snacks, and hoovering our bedroom.

There must be something more exciting I'm missing 😂

(Also if anyone has any positive induction stories they'd like to share, my ears are wide open!)

Nice bath and hair wash
Prep dinner for a couple of nights
Food shop delivery booked for Monday
Clean sheets on bed
Fill car with fuel
Get cash out for hospital just in case
Pack spare phone charger

MrsHsGirl · 12/05/2023 09:47

Download tv programmes/movies on phone/iPad for any waiting round in the hospital/if you end up staying in longer than planned

Get a food shop in. Lots of easy to eat stuff .

Wash hair and tint lashes/brows and get gel polish nails done with a neutral colour.

The lashes and brows will keep you feeling more put together for a month and those make-up-free days with visitors won't feel so bad.

A neutral colour on the nails won't show regrowth :)

Congratulations and best of luck for tomorrow!

Saffronn · 12/05/2023 09:49

Go out for a posh lunch

Maya12345 · 12/05/2023 09:49

I had a similar situation recently! I did pretty much all the things you said but also tried to relax in the evening. Face mask, a warm bath, hot choc, wash hair etc. Got myself so relaxed I ended up going into labour in the middle of the night! Good luck for tomorrow, so exciting!

Hazelnuttella · 12/05/2023 09:50

If you’re planning on breastfeeding get some Lansinoh.

Have a lovely long bath, wash your hair/ shave your legs/ whatever grooming you fancy that you might not get to do for a while.

I did a bit of gardening a few days when I gave birth. It was lockdown so we hadn’t seen the neighbours for ages. One of our neighbours walked past, looked surprised that I was pregnant, asked when I was due, and looked even more surprised when I said 3 days ago 😂

Why is it changing asterisks to bullet points 🙄
off to complain in site stuff

I've been induced before. It took a while to get going. I went in Saturday morning and baby was born Monday morning was home on Tuesday afternoon. It's boring waiting around whilst nothing is happening. I'd suggest having Netflix or Disney on your phone. Take headphones as on the labouring ward you will be hearing women in labour which can be worrying especially knowing that will be you soon! Take lots of snacks, and drinks too! Triple check your bags, take more than enough in case. I'd make sure fridge stocked with easy meals as that's the last thing you'll want to do when you get home. I would relax and enjoy today, nice bath, hair wash, maybe a relaxing lunch out too. Best of luck for tomorrow. X

On the day before I went in for my induction I did a series of exciting things:

I was washed the car inside and out

I cleaned the house upstairs and down for the 40 millionth time since maternity leave started

I sat in his nursery and cried with excitement, fear, nervousness and anticipation for what felt like hours and then went to Frankie & Bennies for tea!

MargaretThursday · 12/05/2023 09:52

Sleep!

Ihavekids · 12/05/2023 09:53

Honestly make someone else do all the adminny stuff for you and take yourself out for the most delicious lunch you can... nap, listen to music, talk to baby. Enjoy some top, top quality me time.

Have someone else-
Food shop- you will be starving if breastfeeding.
Change sheets.
Tidy house.
All laundry done.

BabyMoonPie · 12/05/2023 09:56

My induction at 40 + 1 was fab: pessary in and 12 hours later baby came out.

Bibittybobittyboop · 12/05/2023 10:16

I agree. Body pampering and a noice lunch. And a little kip/Nanna nap. Or a looooong one. All the best for tomorrow!!

FTM2022SS · 12/05/2023 10:16

Loads of still lucozade type drinks for after more so than during! The wards are SOOOO hot and you won't feel like hunting out a vending machine! Extra long charger cable, definitely fresh bedding to come home too! Make sure you have hair clips packed, the shower after is amazing but I didn't have a hair dryer lol so french plaits and clipped back the crazy undried fuzz! Nice walk, today and check you know how the carseat straps adjust and fit the isofix base if you have one in the car in preparation! Enjoy! I took loads of photos of my bump too, I was labouring at home so knew it would be my last photos!

TobiasForgesContactLense · 12/05/2023 10:21

Not induction but ELCS so knew it was my last day of being pregnant. DH had the day off so we went into town and collected his new glasses. Then we went for a nice lunch. The lady on the next table commented that I must be close to birth and I said oh he is coming tomorrow and she looked panicked as if I was about to give birth there and then.

I think I just rested in the afternoon before eating as much as I could manage before the nil by mouth kicked in.

MrsXx4 · 12/05/2023 10:30

I am waiting to be induced at the moment! Told to come in at 9 but still waiting to be seen! I have been given a private room though which is lovely with en-suite!

I had a lovely last day with my 4yr old DS yesterday. We had pancakes for breakfast, went for a nice long drive and a walk and then took him to grandmas! I got home and had a long bath, shaved, face mask, pineapple smoothie and a take away! I had my nails done the day before so feel very pampered right now! I know that feeling won’t last long!

was so nice waking up this morning knowing today was the day and having a hair wash and feeling nice to come in to hospital for a change!

I hope your induction is successful and if I can I’ll update you in how mine went! Good luck! Xx

RackJussells · 12/05/2023 10:36

All the best with your induction! I had my second child last Friday after being induced at 40+6 and I had him when he was 41 weeks!

I had my daughter via induction 7 and a half years ago (reduced movements too) and the difference between the two births is, I had all information given to me and everything explained with my second birth. Also ask what your pain relief options are when you arrive and when you can have them.

I had a wonderful birth last week! It happened so fast (second time mum, so it does go faster!). Induced at 10pm, it started properly at midnight, and he was in my arms at 3:24am!

I had pethidine when I felt very uncomfortable with back labour and that really helped me :)

Its such a wonderful exciting time! Enjoy your last day of being pregnant and I’ll check back for an update of when your sweet little one is in your arms! xx

WandaWonder · 12/05/2023 10:38

We went to pub for lunch then to the hospital, no alcohol though

Trixiedrum · 12/05/2023 10:39

Pedicure, massage, cinema trip or meal out? A long bath. Haircut?

All things that will be hard to do with a baby!

Leapintothelightning · 12/05/2023 10:55

I waited 3 days to go in for my induction so I spent each "last day" resting as much as I could in between the phone calls I was making to the labour ward!
I was so miserable and uncomfortable the last thing I wanted to do was any kind of beauty maintenance or go out for a fancy lunch 😂

2bazookas · 12/05/2023 11:19

Make a restaurant booking for a nice dinner tonight. Last dinner for two for quite a while.

Guaranteed you'll start labour and miss both the dinner and the induction.

Hey, Take it a bit easy, you are pregnant, very close to term.

By all means check your list. Go through in your head what all you will be doing, and check you have reasonably packed everything you will need (and not thrown in too much extra)

Then, id encourage you to have a lovely drink, maybe water in a nice glass, sit back and enjoy the last minutes of silence you will enjoy for a goood long time. Breathe it in.

That's if it's your first. If you already have DC, have at it. 😃

Coronationstation · 12/05/2023 13:11

Take DSS out for tea tonight?
