Buying a b-day card for pet

Darkcloudshere · 11/05/2023 13:30

Would you find it strange if someone told you they were buying a b-day card for their pet?! 😀

I bumped into someone I know in the card shop and I told her I was looking for a card for my cat. I think she gave me a strange look and I feel I should have not said anything. Not everyone understands the love for a pet.

(It's really for our 5 yo DD who loves her cat and wants to throw her a mini b-day party 🥳 ).

It’s a birthday card, not a diamond encrusted water bowl. Although....

It's also a cat 🤷🏻‍♀️

And your point is....🤣

Me and DH always buy birthday cards for our dogs. They get a doggie cake with candles too and we sing happy birthday to them.

When my parents were alive they always sent birthday cards to our dogs. My siblings buy them Christmas presents and we buy for their cats.

I know lots of people who buy their pets birthday cards and don't think it odd at all.

Our dogs buy us Mothers and Fathers Day cards and buy us a present!

Lovely to hear that :).

I got a card for my birthday and Mother's day from the cat too 😀.

And she got lots of presents for Santa at Christmas.

I think people who don't like pets or never had one don't quite get this and that's completely understandable.

Sounds like great fun! 😀

I'd think you a little nuts but in a good way. It would make me smile.

You cat is adorable.

TidyDancer · 11/05/2023 14:01

I love this! My dog makes my life better than any human does so why shouldn't he be celebrated? It might be silly to some but I think it's sweet.

Lovely photo, happy birthday!

Well our dog is 10 today - she got a card, banner and we had lunch out (any excuse for a pub meal!) and she has some mini dog cakes for later. She has had a new basket from our young adult kids (who are obsessed with her) and a couple of other treats.

I did send out a video of her opening presents (she loves it and is very competent, Christmas is bliss for her!) and one friend replied with a comment implying WTF 🤣🤣🤣

😆❤

More money than sense springs to mind

exactly.

GoldenFarfalle · 11/05/2023 14:26

I would find it very weird to be honest, cat can't read, cat doesn't care about birthdays. I find interesting how british people spends so much money on their pets but they don't care about children being hungry, homeless families etc..

I disagree. I think a lot of people do care about homeless families, hungry children and make contributions to charity, us included. One doesn't exclude the other.

I would find it very strange and total waste of money.

minkymini · 11/05/2023 17:28

Dogs have some understanding about gifts as my mums dog loved to open his Xmas gift and he knew which one was his but cats don't have a clue .

Can’t we care for both? Having animals doesn’t stop me caring about humans and giving to charities which help them. Humans and animals all matter.

CurlewKate · 11/05/2023 17:44

I would have said it was for my 5 year old to give said cat. And made sure anyone who might have overheard got the point. I adore my animals to a ridiculous extent, but I cannot abide the whole furbaby cult, and the next time my neighbour asks how my "grandpuppy" (daughter's adult rescue) is getting on, I will probably kill her.

Do you buy your young children birthday cards and presents?

TheFlis12345 · 11/05/2023 18:28

Our dog doesn’t get a card as he would just shred it everywhere, but he does get presents and a cake on his birthday.

Thinking about it though I do feel a bit mean as he gets DH and I mothers and Father’s Day cards 😁

MrsRickAstley · 11/05/2023 18:36

My favourite child (yes my cat) has just turned one and he had a party with balloon, present and cards. We sang him happy birthday too.

TheChosenTwo · 11/05/2023 18:40

Well I think it’s a bit weird personally! I do give my tortoise a bit of extra raddichio on Christmas Day though 😂 no cards, he can’t open them. No presents because… well, he’s a tortoise and I have enough humans to buy for.

C1N1C · 11/05/2023 18:48

Are we celebrating raring in cat years or human years? If so you're missing a LOT of birthdays!

wildinthecountry · 11/05/2023 21:29

Do you get b'day cards for animals? My dogs enjoy a fishcake with a candle for their B'day .
