It’s the loud noise they make. I suspect they thought they were republicans under cover and planning to sound the rape alarm yesterday.
were they giving them out to people on the mall?
that is abit suspicious if so

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 07/05/2023 11:42

Perhaps there was concern over the horses and what they may do if the alarm sounded.

There was a police officer every 5 paces along the whole route. Why would anyone need a rape alarm on the route?

HoldingTheDoor · 07/05/2023 11:44

Considering how many of the Met's officers have been arrested/charged and sentenced for rape, sexual assault and domestic violence perhaps their presence is exactly why the rape alarms are required.

sashagabadon · 07/05/2023 16:36

It is odd to give out rape alarms at2in the morning to women presumably sleeping in tents on the mall with the highest security presence in that place at that time probably in the world.

I am not reassured by the presence of a single Met Office. In fact the more of them there are, the less secure I feel.

People have the right to protest, so what if they'd sounded them.

It's not really odd considering that it's a night project.

*Night Stars is a part of the central London council's night safety campaign.
According to the council's website, Night Stars volunteers are "focused on working with the West End's evening and night-time economy businesses to promote women's safety and reduce violence against women and girls".
It adds: "The team will provide wider support to anyone who becomes vulnerable due to intoxication to reduce the risk to their safety or prevent them from becoming victims of crime.
"The Night Safety volunteers aim to make London's nightlife safer for everyone."

And again considering that barely a week goes by lately, without a Met officer being charged with rape, sexual assault or assault, perhaps women would be safer without them around.

Singleandproud · 07/05/2023 16:48

@hermammy If they had sounded rape alarms its likely the horses would have been spooked/charged and there could have been fatalities of the public, public services or the Royal family. The horses were skittish enough as it is and they are practised doing what they were doing yesterday and even so one backed into a barrier as it is.

If they had sounded them it could have caused massive issues with the horses which was the key worry that things like that would be used to cause chaos

VikingVolva · 07/05/2023 16:49

Police say there was intelligence that rape alarms were to be distributed to protestors.

They are definitely hostile to horses.

The police and the welfare workers who are routinely assisting the vulnerable in Soho would surely know each other, and so it would be known that they had no links to protestors?

Begsthequestion · 07/05/2023 16:50

Amazing - women have to give up their rape alarms, or be arrested, just so the royals can show off with horses.

How fuedal.

Begsthequestion · 07/05/2023 16:51

*feudal (hopefully that was obvious!)

SerendipityJane · 07/05/2023 17:02

Seems 1 skittish horse trumps a rape then. Good to know our place.

The police who arrested them where apparently drafted in from the wider areas so didn't know who they were, and the fact that they work with the area police.

They also don't just hand out rape alarms

(I'm aware you know this but others won't.)

Course it does property - which a horse is - is more important than a person especially a woman or girl.

Considering these volunteers wear a uniform clearly stating they represent Westminster City Council and a bright pink hi-vis, which also has the met police logo on it, this sounds like an excuse to me. The police need to take responsibility. They should've given them basic information.

Reading this is terrifying tbh. These volunteers are there to help vulnerable women in the early hours. Not that the Met police ever cared about women or women's safety.

It's starting to look like they were sizing up some victims for later. Remember Wayne Couzens used his police powers to disarm and disable poor Sarah Everard.

The police actions yesterday around 'conspiracy' were a disgrace. Braverman is an authoritarian nightmare and the Met are happy to push it to the nth degree.

The King must be pathetically weak if any protests have to be 'screened' so he doesn't see.

how could I ever forget. It happened locally for me. I carry a rape alarm every day on my keys.

We know the Met needs reform. Not sure it will ever happen, but I hope it will.

Trixibella · 07/05/2023 17:31

how many sexual assaults were reported on the Mall? Is this a common theme?

Is there a way we can find out about sexual violence that occurs on the routes in the lead up to and state occasions?

That would help support the cause for the next one,

Because the Met is full of rapists?

I wonder if any of the officers involved (I would hope some were women) protested or raised concerns about this brainwave themselves ? That would go a long way towards whether we consider the entire force rotten, or continue to accept their bullshit about "a few" rotten officers.

I know which I believe.

Of course. totally more important than if a woman was actually being raped. Given the entire police force were distracted with other things.

Covering up for each other, usually.
