Apologies I know this is from a few years ago but I read about this amazing Swedish lady Emma Schols for the first time today after seeing her mentioned somewhere on another thread and I wanted to share the link to the news story. Her story had me in tears at her love and courage. When home alone with her children a fire broke out in their home and she single handedly got all 6 of her children out safely despite suffering 93% burns to her body and incredibly she survived: www.brightvibes.com/emma-schols-mother-of-6-singlehandedly-saved-all-of-her-children-from-a-fire/

Extraordinary woman.

Oh my God, I thought 93% burns meant certain death. And she looks amazing! What insane love and courage ❤️.

She's absolutely amazing.

Amazing bravery and also to the medics especially the nurses who tended to her for weeks.

Dogsitterwoes · 07/05/2023 08:48

An amazingly brave woman.

No cticism meant of her at all, she may not have known and of course no one thinks calmly in that situation, but opening the door caused the fireball.
Should you ever be in a fire, get everyone you can together first.

I still remember a whole family who died up the road from me because the Dad discovered a fire downstairs and opened the front door and the house went up in seconds. He died too trying to get upstairs.

Thanks for sharing that as I think my instinct would’ve been to open the door if some people are already near it so it’s very useful to know that you should try and get everybody together first. House fires are one of my biggest fears now that I have DC 😢

@Dogsitterwoes
Can you explain this a bit more? I don't think I underhand what you mean - sorry for being daft... but I'm terrified of fires so would massively appreciate you explaining it

NoSquirrels · 07/05/2023 16:08

Fires are fed by oxygen. So the influx of oxygen when the door opened ‘fed’ the fire what it needed. If you’ve never watched the film Backdraft then it has a good explanation! That’s why fire safety advice is to sleep with bedroom doors closed.

Amazing woman.

I have an intense fear that my love for DC will be tested in some way like this and I'll fail (obviously I fear bad things happening to them more than this aspect of it). Like when a child gets a rare disease and the parents raise millions for experimental treatment abroad. I worry I don't have this in me...not that I ever, ever want to be tested to find out.

This is good to know, thank you
