Apologies I know this is from a few years ago but I read about this amazing Swedish lady Emma Schols for the first time today after seeing her mentioned somewhere on another thread and I wanted to share the link to the news story. Her story had me in tears at her love and courage. When home alone with her children a fire broke out in their home and she single handedly got all 6 of her children out safely despite suffering 93% burns to her body and incredibly she survived: www.brightvibes.com/emma-schols-mother-of-6-singlehandedly-saved-all-of-her-children-from-a-fire/

What a thing for the family to go through. Amazing woman. 😢

JobChangeSoonPlease · 06/05/2023 19:18

Shocking bravery. It takes a mother's heart to walk through fire indeed.

Iris1976 · 06/05/2023 19:19

When I was about 9 there was a fire in the street behind ours and the house was totally ablaze. The fire brigade were there but had not entered the house as the fire downstairs was so fierce. The mother broke free from the fireman and ran straight through the front door and up the stairs and managed to throw both children out of the window then collapsed.
They hit her out but she was terribly burnt.
i think she was in hospital for about 6 months But she did live.

surlycurly · 06/05/2023 19:29

Jings, I had a wee tear there. What a marvellous woman.

TidyDancer · 06/05/2023 19:34

Fuck me that woman is incredible!

NoSquirrels · 06/05/2023 19:37

Oh my lord. You would not think she was so badly burnt.

The part about being sedated in hospital and not believing her children were OK whilst she kept relieving the fear. I don’t want to imagine.

herbygarden · 06/05/2023 19:38

Amazing. A mother's love is the most powerful thing.

Flittingaboutagain · 06/05/2023 20:32

That has made me so emotional. I haven't cried those kind of tears in a long time . I've got all my children out so I can die now...just the most incredible instinctively maternal selfless act. What a woman. I hope she and the children and her husband go onto live a trauma free life. Until I became a mum I had no clue how it feels to have your heart walking around in another.

intrestedvic · 06/05/2023 20:35

I had too get two children out of a fire by going back in. Including my 3 month old I haven't read her story as I suffer from ptsd but I wanted to say your instincts fully come into play and you run on complete autopilot mode.
