Animal Crossing

Does anyone else play Animal Crossing?

I was enjoying this nice relaxing game, wandering through the trees catching butterflies, walking along the beach collecting shells. But now I have an ever increasing to-do list on my island as well as an ever increasing to-do list in the real world!

How long do you spend on your island each day? What are the most important things to do? If I shake and chop all the trees it takes forever, then there's fish to catch and flowers to plant and a museum to stock and houses to build for new residents and bridges and sea creatures and daily stretching and I'm supposed to chat with every resident every day and there's random visitors too. I can't get everything done!

It's beginning to feel like more chores to do every day instead of sitting down with a relaxing game!

If I keep playing will I eventually unlock indestructable tools?! Making tools and collecting the stuff to make the tools and then using the tools for two minutes before they break and having to make more tools just to collect the resources to make more tools is very frustrating!

I LOVE animal crossing and have been playing on my switch for a couple of years. I have lost interest a bit though sadly as I have collected all fossils and bugs and most of fish and I have decorated my island completely so I've kind of run out of things to do! You get the golden tool recipe when you catch all the critters / fish etc. I love going and looking round random islands by using peoples dream codes though now and again x

baddecisions11 · 04/05/2023 20:21

Also I never make more tools I just buy them from the shop. I have millions and millions of bells in the bank as I spent real money to buy them. Sounds very sad I know but was only like 79p for 10 million or something!!

BellsShellsFishBugs · 04/05/2023 20:34

Golden tools?!! Yes please!
It's very fun (most of the time lol)

I've only been playing it for a week so I have lots left to do. It's very frustrating that the shop closes at 10pm as most of my playing time is about 10pm till midnight. Buying tools from the shop instead of crafting them will definitely free up some time. Shaking trees for branches takes so long.

I set the time on my switch a few hours earlier for this reason!

goinginsaneinthemembrane · 04/05/2023 20:42

How long have you been playing? Are you still using "flimsy" tools?

Theunamedcat · 04/05/2023 20:44

Golden tools do break but they last longer when you get later in the day you can set a night ordinance which means everything stays open later personally I go on daily get my recipe log in and get my nook miles I only really "play" when I have time on a weekend usually or if I have a bit of time in the week I stay on

I play as well! I've actually played every installment of Animal Crossing so far, I'm a big fan... and honestly didn't love New Horizons. I do like it but I don't think it's as good as the others... the golden tools breaking really annoyed me lol as they don't in other games!

I would really recommend New Leaf, the one that came out before this one, if you can get hold of a copy of it. I feel like New Horizons lost a lot of the charm of older games - I've found that in NH villagers seem to say the same thing over and over again, they have less personality (they were pretty sassy in prior games!), and there are far fewer upgrades e.g. Timmy and Tommy's shop only upgrading once when in other games it upgrades about 4 times!

I'm rambling now, but my point still stands - I really do recommend giving the other installments a go, New Leaf especially!

Thanks. If I can tear myself away from my island for long enough to make a facebook account I'll join the group 😁

How do I make a second bridge?

Are you new in the game still? You can build another bridge at the construction counter at residents services but sounds like you're quite early on still so you won't have the resident serviced building yet

If you're early on that's why your tools are breaking loads too, soon you'll be able to build stronger tools rather than the flimsy ones

cherrypied · 06/05/2023 06:48

I've been playing a few weeks and if you buy a wet suit you can swim and dive and have you got a vaulting pole to get to cross the rivers? I haven't visited any other islands but have a museum now.

Tarantullah · 06/05/2023 06:51

I got a bit obsessed during lockdown and played for hours a day once DC were in bed! Haven't actually played it for over a year might have to give it a go later. I did enjoy it a lot more once I'd paid the loans off and had some tools and cool house bits.

FinchHinch · 06/05/2023 07:01

I love Animal Crossing. But I've been playing it since it came out and now I don't do any of the actual game stuff. I mainly just focus on designing my island and houses. I've reset my island five or six times now. I do cheat TBH. I time travel and speed run through the early stages of the game to unlock everything and use treasure islands and order bots to get items.

Do you have a Nintendo online account? The game is designed to be played so that you share and swap items with other players really. If you are online, I can bring you over a load of supplies.

Ah ok I don't have a construction counter yet. Tom Nook told me today he'll be upgrading the tent to a building and will be closed for construction tomorrow.

When I was placing the three houses for new residents I put one on the side of the island that doesn't yet have a bridge and it didn't occur to me that the new resident wouldn't be able to vault over with the pole. She's been wandering along the side of the river all alone. But I just did the daily stretching and she was able to go to that so I'm feeling slightly less guilty about her isolation now.

I might be getting a bit too attached to my island and residents 😂

I like diving for sea creatures, they all seem to be worth much more than butterflies and fish so I've been earning bells much quicker since getting the wet suit.

I used the nooks miles ticket to visit another island and was hoping to find different fruit and flowers but it had the same fruit trees and flowers as I already have on mine so that was disappointing. Hopefully next time I try I'll get some new stuff.

Oh thank you, I don't have the online thing yet. Planning to get that next payday!

Yes I am doing the same now that I've figured out the changing the time on the switch thing so I can keep the shop open later than 10pm, I'm paying the loans off much quicker and my house has three rooms now

Placemarking as a fellow animal crossing islander!

I bought it for my DS but am now very protective of "my" island 😂🙈🏝️

I had to buy my own switch after creative differences between me and the DC 🤣

Ikr I was feeling so bad for accidentally isolating my poor resident away from everyone else!

Mine has no interest in a switch or a cute shell collecting butterfly catching game so I don't have to worry about anyone else wanting to destroy play on my island 😆

I've decided I'm getting him a switch OLED for his birthday so I can have the switch lite to myself 😄
