My dd woke up with a fever, headache and nausea last night, threw up once. Today much the same, a temperature and nausea/stomach pain with headache but not actually vomiting. This evening she's complained that her neck hurts. I then checked and she has a pin prick rash on her torso.

Obviously I was immediately thinking "shit, meningitis". How've, I wouldn't describe her as very unwell. She's under the weather, a bit mopey, but definitely doesn't look systemically unwell. Called 111, they're total shit, will only ask questions based on one symptom - I explained I was concerned specifically about the combination of symptoms but no joy. They've arranged a call back at some point, no doubt when she's in bed and I'll have to drag her out then.

Would you go to A&E now or wait? As I say, she does not appear critically unwell, it's just the combination of symptoms concerning me.

I'd definitely take her now.

mynameiscalypso · 02/05/2023 18:04

I would. Children can deteriorate so quickly and early intervention is v important

Wishitsnows · 02/05/2023 18:05

Yes, you should take her

cathyandclare · 02/05/2023 18:05

I’d go to A and E

CurlewKate · 02/05/2023 18:05

I think I would. And I am lax to the point of neglect.

Hellocatshome · 02/05/2023 18:06

It is very very unlikely to be anything serious but the moment you mention non blanching rash (I assume you have checked this) they will make you go to A&E so you may as well go now.

LadyGardenersQuestionTime · 02/05/2023 18:06

Neck hurts = yes for me.

User17865 · 02/05/2023 18:06

It’s just not worth the risk OP so I’d definitely take her. You won’t sleep if she hasn’t been checked over. I hope she’s ok.

mamakoukla · 02/05/2023 18:06

Don’t doubt yourself; as mentioned, children can decline quickly. Was always encouraged to never apologize for taking DC in. Best safe.

Hope you’re seen quickly 💐

BartsLongLostBro · 02/05/2023 18:07

What is the test for meningitis rash?

Do you experience health anxiety?

LatteLady · 02/05/2023 18:07

Just go, it's a better safe than sorry. With luck she will perk up, just to prove you wrong.

DeflatedAgain · 02/05/2023 18:08

Go OP.

Get her ready, bring lots of snacks and drinks in case it's very busy.

jlpartnerrs · 02/05/2023 18:08

I would go and I would do anything to avoid A&E Combination of symptoms is worrying

DivaRainbow · 02/05/2023 18:09

Have you done glass test?

Sunny1234567 · 02/05/2023 18:10

Take her to A&E

PickledPurplePickle · 02/05/2023 18:12

Howmanysleepsnow · 02/05/2023 18:13

Quartz2208 · 02/05/2023 18:13

Yes sore neck and rash I definitely would.

MadeForThis · 02/05/2023 18:14

Failed the glass test. Straight to A&E

where does it say that? Confused

Duckyneedsaclean · 02/05/2023 18:15

They've actually called back already and passing her details to the out of hours team for am appointment for assessment this evening so going to wait unless she gets unwell/anything changes.

Literally called a second after a posted 😶
