D's found him terrifying.

Mind you he also didn't appreciate The Chicken Song. He asked if I was winding him up when I said it was a bit song.

When I uploaded that photo, there was a warning saying "sensitive image", not sure why 🤔

They all seem to say that now. You’re supposed to click if it’s a sensitive image, I think, and it hides it unless you click to see it

One of my favourite clips ever is the Jack Whitehall VS Mr Blobby 😂

Mr Blobby will always be funny.

The Will Carling one was even better. He called him “Mr Bastard” IIRC.
Mr Blobby is one for people with a certain sense of humour! I love it, it’s so hilariously silly, and others just find it unfunny.

CaptainCallisto · 01/05/2023 12:58

I loved Mr Blobby when I was a kid. I even had a Mr Blobby birthday cake for my 8th birthday party. My kids were 6 and 8 when I showed them clips for the first time during lockdown. They thought he was hilarious!

Coffeeandbourbons · 01/05/2023 13:04

Ooooh BLOBBY BLOBBY BLOBBY!

We played Blue by Eiffel 65 to DD this morning and she cried and said she didn’t like it (she’s 3 and is over tired today)

Will save Witch Doctor for another time…

By the way, Brum is on CBeebies.

Mostar · 01/05/2023 13:20

I thought Eiffel 65 were a bit disturbing, going on about how they were going to die in Aberdeen.

Or maybe I just misheard. But even so.

Coffeeandbourbons · 01/05/2023 13:21

@Mostar haha! Penny just dropped here…

the video is more than slightly weird, the bad 90s graphics don’t help.

CoodleMoodle · 01/05/2023 13:30

Both of my DC (9&4) are horrified by Mr Blobby Grin The other day DD couldn't remember his name and referred to him as "Mr Flobby" which made me laugh.

Sparklfairy · 01/05/2023 13:32

I'm laughing so much at the ad that came up mid-thread Grin

I’ve just shown dd Mr Blobby…

Quite a long time ago I was in Littlewoods (yes, that long ago) and a little child saw some item with Mr Blobby on it. Oh my word she kicked up a fuss when her mum wouldn't buy it for her. What really got me struggling to keep a straight face was what she said to the tantrumming youngster:

"No, no you can't have it. Look, I've told you before - Blobby's dead!"

Goodyetalso · 01/05/2023 13:55

Wasn’t the whole point of Mr Blobby that he was a made up kids tv character used to fool celebrities who thought they’d been asked to appear on kids tv which would then all go horribly wrong? It was semi amusing in that context but as soon as he was turned into a real character it ceased to be funny.

Mine still don't believe Alf Garnett was primetime Sunday evening on BBC1. And the Black and White Minstrels.

Mixed Blessings was another one.
It Ain’t Half Hot Mum was highly questionable too, but I did like Windsor Davies.

I just liked the way he shouted SHUT UP!!! at the end.

Cattenberg · 01/05/2023 17:40

I remember a surreal sketch which was a mash-up of Mr Blobby and Keeping Up Appearances. I love the idea that someone, somewhere probably thinks that is representative of British TV.

Surely it's I was beat I was dying on repeat?

Oh god that was on in a pub last weekend. FIL and MIL who are not from the UK had never heard it. He thought it was hilarious, she thought it was horrible.

I haven't played them Never Met A Nice South African yet.

Wonnle · 01/05/2023 17:53

Was anyone ever impressed by Bloody and Noel's Wrinkly Arsehole ?

electricmoccasins · 01/05/2023 18:00

Mine still don't believe Alf Garnett was primetime Sunday evening on BBC1.

Audiences were meant to laugh at Alf Garnett. Unfortunately, most missed where the ridicule was aimed and laughed with him.

Lovegossip · 01/05/2023 18:12

I had a workmate who was from Latvia and the team just happened to be talking about 90s tv shows and Mr Blobby came up, she was like what was that and then when we showed a picture was 😯

Noseylittlemoo · 01/05/2023 18:19

I always hated Noels House Party and especially Mr Blobby. I never found anything about it funny . But his absolute biggest crime was pushing Take That's Babe off the top of the charts to be Christmas number 1 in 1993. I'm still aggrieved 30 years later 🤣

Reugny · 01/05/2023 18:22

My DD was introduced to Rosie and Jim as a 3 year old and liked them. I wasn't s heartless to introduce her

Reugny · 01/05/2023 18:23

I wasn't and aren't as heartless to introduce her to Mr Bobby but I think she will like Bob the Builder.

ALongHardWinter · 01/05/2023 18:24

Wrinkly Arsehole! That made me laugh! 😂😂😂

Jellykat · 01/05/2023 18:35

Always thought Mr Blobby was sinister and grotesque, so im with your DD!

I do remember DS1 and i stumbling across The Tellytubbies for the first time (he was 9 by then) , we thought we were actually going nuts, but at least they had aerials..

Florenz · 01/05/2023 18:37

Noel's House Party was a very strange show, I remember at the time being mystified as to what the appeal of it was, the studio audience were weird, super enthusiastic and clapping and cheering at everything. My family used to watch Gladiators on ITV at the same time but occasionally I'd see bits of it.
