Can a new build be haunted? (Warning woo related thread, if you don’t like it please don’t post)

So genuine question. I live in a new build house. No one else has lived in the house before, no one’s died in it.

We have motion sensor activated lights in the hallway upstairs and on stairs. A few times now I will notice a light coming from upstairs and thinking I have left a light on go up to discover the motion sensor lights has been activated in one end of the hallway (I have swapped the lights around to see if they are faulty and it’s always the same area they come on in the hallway)

I don’t have any pets (well none that walk around the house freely) and have been in the house alone when this has happened. It also seems to happen late at night. Like between midnight and 3am.

So that’s the only physical evidence I have. The other things I experience in the house are hearing noises, sounds like someone walking in the house (I usually put it down to neighbours) and generally just feeling uncomfortable on the landing, sort of feeling as though I’m being watched and a general heavy sort of feeling in that space (I’m not someone who scares easy).

Anyone else experience anything like that in a new build?

(Again I know this is a woo thread, If you don’t believe please don’t be rude to others that do or me)

Yes the house's were built in the grounds of a psychiatric hospital. There is still the main building up.

Thanks for confirming. I'm northern and only lived there a short while, so wasn't sure. Very eerie place, though lovely xx

Haha yeah I don’t know if it’s possible for pets to be ghosts, but why not I suppose?

It's not possible for anything to be a ghost. Cats are just as possible as humans. How about flies or mice? There would be literally billions on billions of them. We'd be knee-deep in 'ghosts'.

Many years ago I bought a lovely maisonette in a little square, my first property. It was a pretty new build development in a semi rural area. Everybody moved in at the same time, all young professionals and no children. We all heard a screaming baby, we all had a random visit in the night from a black dog. One couple had a truly terrifying encounter with a hooded man in their hallway. This place was brand new. One other resident and I did a bit of research and found that there had once been a village and workman's cottages attached to a local historical house. There was also potentially a burial plot but it was difficult to be sure exact with very very old maps. To be fair we were all very happy there, it was just weird. The hooded visitor couple got a priest in. I lived there for 12 years but there was definitely an underlying "something".

Some new builds have crap electrics which would cause the lights to go. And creaking is due to thinner walls.

Could someone be living in your home without you knowing and coming out at night?

Stopppp it. That has freaked me out 😱

I used to live in a new build. We had a few things happen. I saw a figure passing through rooms once. Someone banged my window loudly once on a quiet Sunday evening but no one was outside. It was like a gated community type thing in the countryside, no one would have had time to run or hide before I got to the door and there was nowhere to go anyway. After the banging I went into my kitchen where I heard a loud growling in my ear. I can't remember everything that happened but there was definitely more. The house was lovely and had a nice vibe but definitely had bouts of activity there. Anyway someone at the pub told me the new houses were built on the old village square where people were hanged Confused

Ghosts aren't real.

That's what I used to think too.

@givemecoffeenow It is the cat then. We've got one too.

DP seems to think so. Apparently he had a close bond with this cat. It was meant to be his ex’s cat really, when she moved out after they broke up she took the cat with her and the cat ran away and eventually found his way back to my partner. She then came to fetch the cat again and he did the same thing again so they then agreed it would be his cat from then on. I guess cats really do choose their owners… So I guess it would make sense the cat would be stubborn enough to hang around and haunt the house lol.

@everandneverending that sounds very scary, thankfully nothing that extreme has happened in my house.😶
