I woke up 27 times last night

According to my fitbit. I have been having very disturbed sleep the past couple of weeks. I first noticed at Easter, the dc waking me at 6, me falling back to sleep then waking myself up snoring. This has progressed to happening through the night. I only usually snore if I've had a lot of wine.

This week I've been really aware of waking up briefly multiple times. I checked my fitbit. 5 "proper" wake ups, the 22 micro wake ups

What on earth could this be. ?

Sleep Apnea. Check it out.

Bemyclementine · 26/04/2023 22:41

Would it happen so suddenly? My sister suffers with it.

Sleep Apnea? You mention snoring so possibly related.

Take your fit bit off.

You will sleep a whole lot better when you aren’t coming round and each time thinking ‘I wonder how many wakes will be on my Fitbit in the morning”. Honestly, I used to have the worst sleep, confirmed each morning of course. Since it broke I don’t wake half as much.

Bemyclementine · 26/04/2023 22:51

The fitbit isn't causing it. I looked at it for the first time today, have had the problem since the easter holidays. Then i looked back and can see when it started.

Are you going through a period of heightened anxiety?

Bemyclementine · 26/04/2023 23:06

No, I dobt think do. I have entered to be anxious about but not suddenly worse

A large part of sleep apnea is genetic. I would get checked out.

DyslexicPoster · 26/04/2023 23:26

I have sleep apnea. Find a app to record your snoring. If its bad talk to your gp.

Bemyclementine · 27/04/2023 03:01

Something else, I wake up with a sore throat every day recently.

OP posts:
HanSB · 27/04/2023 03:24

The sore throat is probably from the snoring, is your mouth and throat very dry on waking up? I also think it’s sleep apnea

caringcarer · 27/04/2023 03:26

That is because you are breathing through your mouth not your nose. Sounds like sleep apnoea.

Bemyclementine · 27/04/2023 03:34

Is there anything I can do myself to help? Other than lose weight. I've gone from sleeping reasonably well to dreadful in such a short space of time and feel awful.

GettingStuffed · 27/04/2023 05:24

I agree it sounds like sleep apnoea, do you fall asleep easily during the day.?

Bubbles254 · 27/04/2023 05:36

If not sleep apnea it could be silent reflux. You could try sleeping on a wedge and see if it improves.

Why do you say 'other than lose weight'?

Do you need to lose weight?

Honestly, if you are overweight, then losing weight is the single best thing you can do for sleep apnea. There is no point trying anything other than that as a first port of call.

Wildernesstips · 27/04/2023 06:22

Could it be something like mild hay fever that’s causing you to snore more? Have noticed the pollen levels have been quite high in the last couple of weeks.

Prettypaisleyslippers · 27/04/2023 06:25

Drink plenty of fluid but stop 2 hours before bed. Don’t drink alcohol, if it’s hayfever take antihistamine early evening.

Dh snores when he gets to even borderline overweight. Completely solved when he’s even only 3kg below the “borderline”. Definitely worth a try, especially if the poor sleep coincided with a period of weight gain.

BertyMyrtle · 27/04/2023 07:51

If you read the information on the Fitbit app, it’s says between 10 and 30 times of being awake are normal each night. I know I definitely always have lots of times of being awake on mine, most nights between 20 and 30.

Bemyclementine · 27/04/2023 07:56

To answer sone questions - I don't fall asleep in the day.
I am size 14/16 so could lose sone weight. Probably 3 stone if I'm honest. 5ft 7. It's something I've been struggling with.

We are surrounded by rape seed fields.

I'd bloody love it to be hay-fever rather than sleep apnoea.

OP posts:
UndercoverCop · 27/04/2023 08:03

Isn't that fairly normal if you're including microwakes.
I slept badly last night, but the night before I slept for more than 8 hours, green Star, good balance of sleep stages , and a similar number of wakes if I include the micro ones

Bemyclementine · 27/04/2023 08:03

Re the weight though,I havent suddenly put weight on.

Also the fitbit info - previously it showed waking once or twice, or not at all . I dobt look at it much since I normally sleep well, but noticed all of these small wake ups. Maybe it's updated and shows more now . I dobt know but I do kniw I'm very conscious of waking much more

OP posts:
UndercoverCop · 27/04/2023 08:05

I've only had my Fitbit since Christmas but it's always shown the micro wakes , my sleep score for the night I described was 88 which seems decent

Bemyclementine · 27/04/2023 08:05

OK so ignore the fitbit info, it seems that it shows more than it used to.

I'm still aware that I'm waking myself up with a snort multiple times a night which I didn't used to. I'm tired. My throat is sore.
