This came up last night as an exciting topic of conversation!!! Never knew there were so many different options...
Do you
A) rinse under tap
B) rinse with pre-bought veg cleaner
C) rinse with water/vinegar solution
D) rinse with soap solution
E) use scrubbing brush
F) other (please specify!!!)

Rinse under the tap
If its something like muddy potatoes or sweet potatoes I'll use a vegetable brush alongside the water

Notellinganyone · 22/04/2023 11:07

I don’t generally bother.

ApolloandDaphne · 22/04/2023 11:09

I don't wash fruit and veg.

Rainallnight · 22/04/2023 11:10

I don’t bother. I’m sure this is awful of me.

Seeline · 22/04/2023 11:12

I'll scrub muddy potatoes.
If something looks a bit dusty or feels gritty it gets rinsed under the tap.
Generally don't bother with the rest though.

BunnyFun · 22/04/2023 11:12

I wash thoroughly in my mouth.

BlackBarbies · 22/04/2023 11:13

Everything gets rinsed under the tap. Potatoes are the only thing that gets scrubbed as we’re eating the skin.

Meat is washed with water and lemon juice

Twinedpeaks · 22/04/2023 11:14

I don't.

BlossomWood · 22/04/2023 11:14

Just a rinse under the tap.

Also, I recently bought a salad spinner for when I've rinsed my salad. I was sick of trying to dry it with kitchen roll and squishing the leaves. I don't know why I hadn't bought one sooner. It took me right back to my childhood.

milkysmum · 22/04/2023 11:17

Quick rinse under the tap

melissasummerfield · 22/04/2023 11:18

I dont wash anything 👀

NoodleNuts · 22/04/2023 11:19

B) rinse with pre-bought veg cleaner

People really do this?? Where do you even buy veg cleaner?

rumred · 22/04/2023 11:23

I rub apples on my jeans but rarely wash other stuff. Except spinach and dirty spuds

I didn't even know it existed what a waste of money! Who does this?! 😂

Aaron95 · 22/04/2023 11:24

I don't bother. If they are muddy I'll wash or scrub that off but otherwise just eat fruit and veg as it comes.

lifechanginglemoncake · 22/04/2023 11:25

We fill the sink with a water and vinegar solution and put everything in there when we do the big shop before we it it away. Then it's all done and no faffing needed before cooking or eating. We've found things like berries last much longer this way.

Ostryga · 22/04/2023 11:26

Never unless it’s muddy or visibly dirty. Always wash leeks though after forgetting once and making a lovely gritty, muddy braised leek dish.

TheChosenTwo · 22/04/2023 11:27

We don’t really. Berries etc I used to rinse before giving to the small dc but I haven’t done that in years now.
We just eat it as it is. None of us have died from this so far so we’ll just carry on as we are.

NotPrettyInPink23 · 22/04/2023 11:28

Don't bother

Buy organic apples and don’t bother with anything else.

Jitterybugs · 22/04/2023 11:44

The recommended washing of fruit and veg isn’t to rid it of dirt. It’s an attempt to rinse off the pesticides and fungicides . Shop bought fruit and veg is sprayed with both unless it’s organically grown. Consuming it can cause health problems including cancer. I can’t afford to buy organic but I do put fruit or veg in a sieve and wash under running water. I was away from home for 10 days recently. There were a few leftover strawberries lurking in the fridge which appeared as fresh as the day I bought them 2 weeks before I left. They’d travelled from Spain and would never have looked so fresh if they weren’t covered in chemicals.

Dscpdx · 16/03/2024 09:03

Hi, what vinegar specifically do you use? I want to buy but I’m getting a bit confused with which type to buy and use. Thank you.

lifechanginglemoncake · 16/03/2024 09:04

Just distilled white vinegar and use it in water.
