This came up last night as an exciting topic of conversation!!! Never knew there were so many different options...
Do you
A) rinse under tap
B) rinse with pre-bought veg cleaner
C) rinse with water/vinegar solution
D) rinse with soap solution
E) use scrubbing brush
F) other (please specify!!!)

I don't, unless it's muddy then I'll wash under the tap.

IScrub root veg with a brush and everything else gets rinsed under the tap or soaked in a bowl for a bit.

AnnaMagnani · 16/03/2024 09:09

F: - don't bother

Rinse under the tap
If its something like muddy potatoes or sweet potatoes I'll use a vegetable brush alongside the water

Exactly the same as demetedpixie ^

What the actual fuck is "veg cleaner"?

TBH unless it has mud on it I tend not to bother really.

I'm not dead yet.

A thread nearly a year old needed to be woken up for washing veg? 🙈

RampantIvy · 16/03/2024 09:29

I always wash fruit and veg. After a bout of food poisoning many years ago my stomach isn't as robust as it used to be.

I scrub potatoes because we eat the skin unless I am doing mash.

Why do you wash meat @BlackBarbies?
I never do that.

BlackBarbies · 16/03/2024 09:32

@sanityisamyth I was so confused when I saw a notification about this thread. Who’s to blame for resurrecting this nonsense?!😂

@RampantIvy because I’m Black. It’s just what most of us do

Spidey66 · 16/03/2024 09:35

I only wash baking potatoes and salad veg that grows in mud and will be eaten raw....and that's if it looks muddy. So celery or lettuce. I run them under the tap. Spuds may get a scrub if very muddy.

I'm still alive.

soupfiend · 16/03/2024 09:37

I dont bother unless its likely to have grit like leeks (I made a thread about my hatred for leeks on this basis)

LaughterLentil · 16/03/2024 09:43

More thoroughly than you first think is the correct answer.

Readthelastpagefirst · 16/03/2024 09:49

If it's organic, then just a quick rinse. If it isn't and it's not something I'm peeling, then a thorough wash and scrub with a tawashi brush to get off as much insecticide/pestcide/fungicide etc as possible.

citrinetrilogy · 16/03/2024 09:53

Fruit where you eat the skin like apples and grapes might get a quick rinse under the tap, and potatoes & carrots are scrubbed if we are eating them with the skins on. Salad veg gets a rinse if it is muddy.

That's it.

GalileoHumpkins · 16/03/2024 09:56

I take it in the shower with me.
