Thread 7 - TalkLair: “In fact it’s an oblate spheroid”

Continuation of previous threads (thread 6).
The new lair of JTT escapees is all cosy and homey; we have truly settled here. Outside, the garden is blooming with spring flowers. Inside, the hearth is glowing, pictures are up on the walls, rugs are down on the floors (and assorted pets curled up on them).

We just won’t mention the gnawed bones of our prey over there in the corner of the cave…

Sex bedrooms are all very well and good but it would be nice to have some sleep bedrooms as well.

I don't mind a multi-purpose one... (chance would be a fine thing).

This is a good one, it's about serial house viewers who spend hours viewing, but have no intention to buy and are just nosy. https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/_chat/4799783-i-would-not-let-them-in

Just got to the end of that, thank you! Hilarious!

The chutzpah of some people!

Nameinventedforthrowawaypurposes · 05/05/2023 23:10

I'm listening to Janina Ramirez's book "Femina" and the bit I've just heard is about the early nuns in Northumbria, who didn't really give up any luxuries and could hold positions of some power and also didn't have to be married off and bear children. The communion women being discussed made me think about the conversation on this thread.

MavisMcMinty · 06/05/2023 01:38

I’m at my Dad’s and he showed me this letter written by my big brother and co-signed by me when he was 8 and I was 6. I have no idea what had happened with the Sprite.

I love how he has all the bases covered. A fine legal mind.

MouseMinge · 06/05/2023 02:18

I have Femina on Kindle and I'm really looking forward to reading it. I'm currently reading How to Kill Men and Get Away With It which does what it says on the tin and is a dark and hilarious romp.

SinnerBoy · 06/05/2023 02:24

Good handwriting for an 8 year old.

MavisMcMinty · 06/05/2023 02:33

Funnily enough his handwriting deteriorated as he grew up and it’s pretty much illegible now.

I'm really baffled by most of those!

Several of them do what I do. But some have me totally stumped - like 'stares at water'.

Tricyrtis2022 · 06/05/2023 10:03

Very few of those make any sense to me.

Tricyrtis2022 · 06/05/2023 10:04

Saying that, could 'stares at water' be a coast guard?

Kucinghitam · 07/05/2023 09:04

DH actually told me about this thread Shock
https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/the_royal_family/4800836-did-anyone-notice-willam?

It's fascinating not because of the specific subject matter (lest anyone get bogged down into republicans vs monarchists) but the broader psychology of humans creating their own "truths" - an event took place, broadcast and viewed by everybody in glorious high-definition technicolour, and yet people seemed with absolute certainty to see completely different things.

Looking a little uptight and exasperated when the collar is put on Charles and then the cloak? I didn't notice at the time but on sky re run I can see...

Poor old UK. Empty spectacle and overflowing wards. Loyal newspapers and indescribable subjects. Horrible police, fleeing teachers, nurses and doctors. Toasting this old dodderer, a lottery ticket in the back pocket a tiny sliver of a vanishing hope.

I don't know why I've found this so depressing. Prob the newspapers more than anything else. Talk about misdirection.

Tricyrtis2022 · 07/05/2023 10:34

We ignored the whole thing and went for a walk around town in the rain. Very quiet it was and there were only three stalls on the usually very busy market, but the few people around seemed very cheerful. I wondered if they were also avoiding the charade.

Dotellhimpike · 07/05/2023 10:57

The Royals are the ultimate in parasocial relationships, so many in the UK feel they have a stake and insight into a group of people they will never have the first inkling of what they are truly like in private.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 07/05/2023 11:24

That thread is very odd.

duc748 · 07/05/2023 11:47

I figure ignoring to all day yesterday and then clicking threads on it this morning seems a bit daft!

*The Royals are the ultimate in parasocial relationships...^

I'd say parasitical.

Tricyrtis2022 · 07/05/2023 12:50

The eggs have hatched! I can hear the squeaks of young starlings from the eaves of a neighbour's roof and the robins and blackbirds are asking for extra worms.

The male robin came into the house again a couple of days ago. We keep a worm dish in the hall in case they come to the door and I don't know how he figured it out, but he came in through the kitchen window and I found him perching on the bowl helping himself. He had a bit of a panic so there followed a ridiculous scene of me standing outside the window holding the bowl and him flapping about in the hall. I'd left the door open and Mrs Robin went in to look for him and a minute they both hopped outside together. We're going to have to come up a Robin Method - if a window is open, the door to that room should be kept closed. Or something.
