I’ve just discovered this AI chatbot and thought I’d give it a go. Has anyone else used it yet? I have only asked it a few things, mainly creating a meal plan and it can then create a shopping list for you. I feel like this will (hopefully) help with the mind numbing task of coming up with new meals to try.

does anyone else have any good ideas for what it could be used for to save time for a busy family?

Hey!

I've used it (a lot) for a side business, but not really for home stuff, so that's a cool way to use it too :) Here's a few things I thought of:

  • Create Weekly Cleaning Rotas for the Family to Share Out Tasks
  • Plan a Day to Day Schedule
  • Help You Write Letters / Cover Letters / CV's
  • Plan Out Road Trips / Holidays
  • Give You Lists of Things - Like activities to do at home with the kids, places to go out, things to do in the garden.
reesewithoutaspoon · 19/04/2023 18:38

I used it to make a weeks meal plan, excluding stuff I disliked, and to provide a shopping list for that plan, specified low budget. It gave a decent plan, bit monotonous, but was pretty cool.
I imagine you could ask for anything you specifically wanted like set number of calories, or macros or cost. going to play with it some more.

Custardbanana · 19/04/2023 18:38

I use it loads at work.

What do you use it for? I’d like to use it but I can’t think of how at the moment.

wheresmymojo · 19/04/2023 19:17

I use it a little bit but mainly just novelty at the moment TBH.

Definitely following for ideas beyond that...

I did see something about asking it to suggest X names for a cat...then silly names...then names for a black cat...or names like something else.

They were all good suggestions and it made me think it's a shame the Baby Name board doesn't have an add in Grin

I use it for The Work by Byron Katie. Very helpful.

I mainly SQL code or excel formulas but occasionally I need to find a load of information that would be fiddly with normal Google search for example - What are the dates of all the UK bank holidays that fall on a Friday since 1965.

Bumble84 · 19/04/2023 20:53

It’s definitely a novelty for me as well atm. I suppose the possibilities are endless.

Did you use it to write this list? Your use of initial capitals is very interesting.

I’ve been using it this week to help me with a course I’m currently on, and I’m finding it really useful to translate things into less technical language. Not tried it for anything else so far!

ProtectorExtraordinaryOfTheCantonsOfNim · 19/04/2023 21:02

I get it to write polite emails when I'm not feeling very polite.

"Please write an email rephrasing the following passage of text in a polite and professional tone: [what I really want to say]"

PhotoDad · 19/04/2023 21:10

I'm a teacher and I've been playing with it a little bit so that I can spot its style as a first pass against students using it for their essays. It's mostly great at explaining things, and then suddenly it will include some little details that's just wrong (names and dates, book titles). Sometimes it simply makes up a whole paragraph! Very disconcerting. Sooooo... even if you're using it for recipes, double-check that the ingredients sound plausible.

Ha!

I'll be here waiting for the tech to do a real-time translation of what comes out of my mouth into something polite Grin

Could you get it to answer your thread?!

Greensleevevssnotnose · 19/04/2023 21:12

I use it daily for my marketing posts on li. Also for writing cover letters for job applications

wheresmymojo · 19/04/2023 21:15

This is what ChatGPT has to say:

ChatGPT can be used to save time for a busy family in several ways:
1 Meal Planning: ChatGPT can suggest meal plans based on the family's dietary preferences, budget, and available ingredients. It can also provide recipes and shopping lists, making it easier for busy families to plan their meals and save time on grocery shopping.
2 Personal Assistant: ChatGPT can act as a virtual personal assistant for the family, reminding them of important tasks and appointments, managing their schedules, and setting reminders for deadlines.
3 Homework Help: ChatGPT can provide assistance with homework, helping children with their assignments and providing educational resources to support their learning.
4 Entertainment: ChatGPT can suggest movies, TV shows, and games for the family to enjoy together, based on their preferences and interests.
5 Household Management: ChatGPT can help manage household tasks, such as scheduling cleaning services, ordering groceries, and tracking household expenses.
Overall, by using ChatGPT, a busy family can save time and reduce stress by delegating some of their tasks to the virtual assistant, freeing up more time for them to focus on their priorities and spend quality time together.

cornflakegeneration · 19/04/2023 21:15

My son used it to write an essay today, Did it in seconds! (This was just for fun btw)

carriedout · 19/04/2023 21:18

I can understand using it to draw up e.g. lists of jobs or as a virtual PA, but I think it is weird to outsource actual preference choices like menu plans and what film to watch to a bot.

It can't possibly know what you fancy, I can't imagine outsourcing my choices in that way.

I am interested in getting it to rewrite my grumpy emails.

You ask it to recommend things based on what you've previously liked...

It's only the same as the posts on MN saying 'If we've liked watching X, Y and Z what other Netflix shows would we like?'

wheresmymojo · 19/04/2023 21:21

It's also good for re-writing in a specific style so for example:

"Rewrite this in an informal and engaging way..."

Or "rewrite this to sound more professional"

INamechangedForThisMadness · 19/04/2023 21:38

I have literally just been using it to help me write a personal statement type thing for a job application.

It did take a bit of negotiation, tweaking and streamlining. But I've got something that's definitely still mine, just constructed with help.

We've also been recommended to use it at work for writing professional emails when we're not feeling too professional!

AtrociousCircumstance · 19/04/2023 21:43

@Cincinnatus Also interested in how you use it for BK’s The Work!

I could ask it for recommendations but not actually draw up a menu plan.

How would it know what mood I am in? As in - tomorrow we can have beans on toast because I have a late meeting and I know I will be too fucked off to cook.

Maybe I am just too awkward (on purpose sometimes)
