thecoperope · 17/04/2023 22:56

£45 for gas even though we turned the central heating off 2 weeks ago
£110 for electricity but we have an electric cooker and hob.

This is getting unsustainable.

Can I ask why you're interested in what other people spend? I've seen a lot of threads on similar lines and just can't work out why. What am I missing, why would I care, it has no relevance to me, no effect on my bills. Why do so many posters start threads asking the same question?

It's called 'chatting' - hence why the OP placed this thread in the Chat section of Mumsnet. People are all different and some people find it comforting to know that others are in the same boat as them, or to discuss the topic generally.

I can only assume that it makes them feel better if they find a lot of people are worse off than them

I find this a very bizarre attitude. If I was struggling with the cost of utility bills, I'd do what I could to make the situation better. I wouldn't seek out people who were similarly struggling and think 'well it's OK because other people feel the same'.

£75 a month. Same as always. £250
In credit.

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 18/04/2023 06:43

Mine's about $170 AUD per month (averaged over the last year) for gas and elec .(about 95 pounds). That's for a five bedroomed detached house with the pool pump running four to six hours a day. Thank god for solar (and sun).

Toddlerteaplease · 18/04/2023 06:43

I fixed my tariff at the right time.

I think that's why I dont get it either, how does swapping random meaningless numbers make anyone feel better or help?

Asking for tips to reduce energy usage is sensible and useful but does anyone really feel better id they know my bills are higher then theirs?

ElinoristhenewEnid · 18/04/2023 07:02

£55 gas
£35 electricity

For period mid March to mid April

3 bed bungalow and just me.

Use tumble dryer and gas ch - set at 18c

Still on fixed deal until October

Whiskers4 · 18/04/2023 08:39

We're on monthly DD which is £137.

Last month our bill came to £44.65 and electric £103.46. Just realised similar amounts to you, OP. Hoping next month our gas will be half that and electricity now with less lighting, being outside more in evenings day so less technology/tv on and less time required for cooking.

SinnerBoy · 18/04/2023 08:57

Ours has gone up to £153 combined, but I haven't given them a reading since January. That's what it was before the cap, when they said we were £860 in credit. At Christmas, they said we were about £100 in credit.

Saucery · 18/04/2023 09:01

£140 for gas
£135 for electric
I’m trying to get Eon to reduce the electric direct debit but they are refusing, even though we are in (small) credit. They also refunded us £70 last month before putting the dd up! I didn’t switch to dd for years because of fast practices like that, so I’m not very pleased.

Over what period? Figures are meaningless without that.

SinnerBoy · 18/04/2023 16:57

Per month, I'd guess.

popandchoc · 18/04/2023 17:17

I'm paying £128 direct debit. My last bill was £175 for the month.

BritishDesiGirl · 18/04/2023 17:28

95 pound for gas and electric. Fixed until October

So why read the thread and participate?

So why read the thread and participate?

So that maybe someone will explain, isn't that obvious?

How does anyone learn if they don't ask questions?

So far I've had a coupe of posters saying the same and an explanation that doesn't make much sense of wanting to know others are in the same boat, seems it would be more help to address the usage than nonsensical comparisons of numbers

octoberafternoons · 18/04/2023 18:27

£156 for both combined. Just me in a 2 bed terrace.

Really hoping the weather warms up soon so heating can stay off. Usually I hardly turn the heating on this time of year but my house is 16C without currently.

slimdown · 18/04/2023 18:31

Mine has just gone down from £200 to £175, 4 bed detached family of 4, new build so we don't need to put the heating on very often.

stillherenow · 18/04/2023 18:31

Last bill was £140 but I’ve reset my dd from 180 to 120 . It’s too much otherwise. I’m £100 in debit but I have solar so summer bills should balance things.

stillherenow · 18/04/2023 18:32

My thermostat is permanently on 16 but I am fine as I have electric blanket and dd and I both have oodies. In the winter we put on the log burner as well if we’re cold.

cptartapp · 18/04/2023 18:40

£65 a month for electric. Four people in a four bed house but on a good fixed tariff until October. Still about £190 in credit.
We have oil central heating. About £1200 a year.

StatisticallyChallenged · 18/04/2023 19:45

Just had dd reduced to £93, think it's now about right, maybe a tad high. Fixed last April on an EV tariff - 38p day rate, but only 4.5p night rate.

5 bed house, essentially all electric although we have gas so 2x standing charge. We have an air source heat pump, and a large EV doing approx 50 miles daily.

Big saver for us is solar panels plus big batteries installed in December. That allows us to use less and load shift to off peak, so we only used 200kwh of day rate in total in the 1st quarter of the year.

PinkLemonadee · 18/04/2023 19:48

£95/mo for a small one bed flat. Have the heating on for an hour or so a day, use my laptop for 5+ hours for work.
