What happens when I inevitably win big on the lottery tonight

user1473878824 · 15/04/2023 21:01

I do the lottery online or on the national Lottery app, and usually when I win small amounts they’ve clearly accidentally left six zeros off I get an email saying there’s new about my ticket and the money is in my account.

But when happens when someone win the jackpot? Is it the same process? Is there just £4,000,000 sitting in their lottery account waiting for then to transfer it to their bank account or do you get a bells and whistles email? Do they call you? Does someone hunt you down and turn up at your house with a big novelty cheque that’s a nightmare to take to the bank?

Obviously it’s my turn tonight to win absolutely all of it but I’m sure it’s yours next. If you reply with the odds of winning the lottery I will not be sharing my spoils with you, just to be clear.

If you win, please could you buy me one of the massive slabs of chocolate from Hotel Chocolat?

SIX OF THEM.

4mil wouldn't quite buy the house I have my eye on, but maybe I can barter them down.

Still, it would do.

I always think I don’t really NEED the space of a five million pound house but I’m sure realistically I could suck it up and live with it.

@NoodletheSchnoodle Not living there now has made me put rose tinted glasses on the enormous spider problem we had. And I mean an enormous problem with enormous spiders. But with my money I will just clearly hire someone to deal with them whenever they appear again ON MY BED.

The house I have my eye on is a 6 bed down the end of a country lane, sea views and 'room for a pony'
I could buy the pony as well

Please don’t stifle yourself, get two. I’m so sorry that I’m winning tonight and not you.

DH has just told me not to go crazy buying irrigation for the green house, I'd go crazy, get the automatic timer with THREE manifolds.

user1473878824 · 15/04/2023 23:01

@WorriedSid Get a greenhouse that simply RAINS whenever you want.

I dream of how I'd share out my winnings but I've often wondered whether if you win big and want to share your winnings, do the recipients have to pay tax on it? If so, would it be better to have a syndicate in place?

While I plan to pay off friends’ mortgages or help them buy etc we must remember that self care is very big right now.

I live in a pricey area! This isn't even a massive house!!! It has two bedrooms more than people in my family, but one could be my office/study/kids' use as their homework room, and then one soare room for guests.

It's on at 3.7 but with stamp duty and fees, and to do a little bit of cosmetic updating, I'd need about 4.5.

I'm a syndicate organiser, we play EuroMillions every draw and I'll buy extra tickets if Lotto is a guaranteed to win/roll down with our winnings pot.

We once got 4 numbers plus 1 star on EuroMillions. Imagine the disappointment when we won £118. In my head 4 +1 must have been at least 000's!!

Yup, I'm SW London/Surrey borders.

You can have tonight's £4m, I'll wait for the euromillions on Tuesday.

I need:

  • dream house (4.5ish with stamp.duty and fees etc)
  • a few dream holidays
  • pay off mortgages of a few friends
  • a little boat (dream house has private mooring)
  • open up a chain of restaurants not for profit (necessarily)
  • buy lots of antique furniture
  • campervan

ohhh can I come over and lie in your boat like a really rich Lady of Shallot?

I’ve always said money can’t buy you happiness but I’d rather be sad on a yacht.

It's only a small mooring, sadly, so less yacht, and more little pootering about boat. Might have to get a yacht and moor it in Greece at my villa there.

But yes, of course. You'll be first on my boat after my kids and me.

It's actually off market for now, didn't sell when it was on six months ago. I'm gonna swoop in with my offer though, once I win.

user1473878824 · 15/04/2023 23:48

@IfYouLikePinaCoIadas very kind. I know someone lovely who has a similar place in Strawberry Hill and I’m never not hugely jealous.
